I mean your characters automatically dew it but if you have friends who do that it must be pretty fun. (also tip, your character is always the first to report in so maybe keep your ears out for that if you want to know which number you are)
It’s not cgi they’ve upgraded the colour of the footage and sort of photoshopped old footage into the scene. But it is a great tie in to the original trilogy
The X-Wing pilot which appears on time index 0:38 is Wedge Antilles. He was played by Denis Lawson, uncle of Ewan McGregor, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the second trilogy.
I love these scenes. There is such gravitas, everyone is trying to stay calm and focused against what is almost certain death. No bravado, just professional.

The visual effects of the first trilogy were no doubt waaayy ahead of their time, specially concerning the starships. Even today, they are still impressive. And for some reason I can't explain, they are better than many CGI effects.
It's because of the lighting, I'm sure of it. In the Original Trilogy, the light bouncing off of an actual, physical object against a dark background gives a subtle feeling like the X-wing is actually in the cold void of space with no atmospheric conditions to interfere with the harsh rays of the nearest star. The way the light behaves in the CGI environments of the Prequel and Sequel trilogies just doesn't capture that vital element (though I think Rogue One got very close to it).

kubrick's space odyssey paved the way for the space movies, and it's very impressive how good his ships look for being 1968, and the first SW movie came out in 1977, he based his effects on real photography done in space and mimicked it very accurately, CGI could do it perfectly as well but i think the problem is the artists are using the old movies as reference instead of using real space photography, and most of the subtleties of space lighting are missed

They had really mastered this scene by ROTJ. There's something singularly powerful about a bunch of serious military folks following an established protocol to prepare for battle.
A good reminder of how under-selling the drama can raise the tension. No dramatics, no bravado, and they know as well as we do they're almost certainly about to die. My guess it's just people reporting in as they are ready to do so, but I would have thought that meant the chance of them talking over each other was increased. Reporting in, in numerical order would have made more sense to me.

This is one of the many things missing from the new Movies. Missing lines like this made the Rebels seem unprofessional and a joke. It's a lack of attention to detail by the writers
@@kaihedgie1747 It's called writing style The original Trilogy and Rogue One are written in the style of an old war movie, while the newer movies are written like a Marvel movie. You can tell the difference in tone and dialogue used. Lucas even spliced together footage from WW2 movies and bomber attacks to show the FX guys how he wanted the attack scenes against the Deathstar and against the tie fighters to look like. It's clear that's what he was taking inspiration from, that and old westerns, and pulp sci-fi films from the 30's like Buck Rogers. While in the sequel trilogy the fighter scenes felt more like a cookie cutter video game. The tone for a lot of the dialogue in the sequel trilogy feels like the characters are subconsciously thinking "OMG CHECK IT OUT I'M IN A STAR WARS MOVIE!" instead of "We're in terrible war and I don't know if we're going to get out of this" Filloni said it best, what makes Rogue One and Mando stand out with the fans is because they took inspiration from what inspired Lucas instead of being inspired by Star Wars and modern movies.

This is one of the many things missing from the new Movies. Missing lines like this made the Rebels seem unprofessional and a joke. It's a lack of attention to detail by the writers

The original Trilogy and Rogue One are written in the style of an old war movie, while the newer movies are written like a Marvel movie. You can tell the difference in tone and dialogue used.
Lucas even spliced together footage from WW2 movies and bomber attacks to show the FX guys how he wanted the attack scenes against the Deathstar and against the tie fighters to look like. It's clear that's what he was taking inspiration from, that and old westerns, and pulp sci-fi films from the 30's like Buck Rogers.
While in the sequel trilogy the fighter scenes felt more like a cookie cutter video game.
The tone for a lot of the dialogue in the sequel trilogy feels like the characters are subconsciously thinking "OMG CHECK IT OUT I'M IN A STAR WARS MOVIE!" instead of "We're in terrible war and I don't know if we're going to get out of this"
Filloni said it best, what makes Rogue One and Mando stand out with the fans is because they took inspiration from what inspired Lucas instead of being inspired by Star Wars and modern movies.
@@darkalman When was the last time you actually watched Rogue One and looked at this and the original trilogy side by side? Because it sounds way more like you mark Rogue One as the exception simply because it's set within the time frame of the original trilogy more than anything
