Correct Josh. It was Bluetooth to connect to your laptop to run WinLink Packet on my TH-D74. I did it once. Connected to my Club FARC Gateway and was able to send an email. Just using the OEM antenna. You're always awesome 🎉. 73 Ruben KD6CWI.
Hey you found my post! I was going to post there that you have to use a digirig or signalink to get it to work. The new version of VARA FM does support a KISS TNC port in it, but it will only work with something that is coded to work with the port (such as Pinpoint software, for APRS). If there was a way for VARA to connect to the TNC of the D74 directly (simliar to how Winlink packet is coded for the D72), it might work - but since this is only one radio radio I doubt they will update the code to support just one radio.
Also - in Winlink for packet on the D74 you need to select KISS as the TNC in winlink, and KISS12 has to show up on the radio. I posted a video a long time ago that Don Arnold linked to if you need help. One thing to note is that you can only connect to the TNC via bluetooth, and not USB - it just doesn't work. Not sure if Kenwood ever fixed it in the D75? Its a shame that there were bugs or quirks with it - considering it cost so much.
Josh my earlier comment was on 75% of your video. In the end you found out VARA FM is not set up as of yet. I'm finishing your video 🎉. 73 Ruben KD6CWI
De W4PGX: a little intimidating at first! Got it up and running on APRS, DSTAR et al this weekend. I haven’t worked REF030C in the shower while eating KFC and cleaning an AK-47 yet. I wanna get on winlink and Vara FM first.
Honestly my favorite episode of HRCC! I want a "But does it do Cross Band Repeat?" T-Shirt!
Thanks for the Video Josh! Great seeing you in I-405 yesterday and a quick QSO in 146.52 and even my wife got excited, 73! KM6EHD

I got it working like twenty minutes after we ended sitting in front of the tv. lol
@@HamRadioCrashCourse So if you got it working will we get an update sometime on how to get it working? Keep up the great work!
Video posed.
Just remember to BT connect from the PC to the HT after pairing with the radio. Don’t try to do this from the HT side…

You should consider marine grade enclosures to house electronics.
don't the phone emblem represent a headset?

sorry, I have not over 2h of my lifetime left to view such boring stuff ...
Yep. I make lots of videos. Some short 10-20 minutes. Some hours long. I have no expectation you’d watch them all.
Josh, you look haggard. Get some rest.
Trying.
