i’m not normal about tgcf either!! i could listen to you talk about this for hours. i appreciate you including a spoiler discussion, as i loved your thoughts on xie lian, eming, and qi rong lol please post a part 2 when you finish the series!! thanks for sharing and posting!!
thanks for listening to me yap!!!! i absolutely will update when i get to the end - i finished vol 5 the other day but i gotta pause for a bit while i work through some other stuff.....soon though....i miss hualian too much
I first stumbled across this series as a fan translated Google document in a random forum years ago - and it has held me in a chokehold ever since. TGCF is a core experience in my life now. And I am a rabid devourer of all things romance, fantasy, anime, etc. so I have consumed mass amounts of media. I don’t think anything could ever top how I feel about Hualian and co. And every time I see a new convert to Xie Lian’s Puqi Shrine, I can’t help but to feel emotional, and so excited for someone else to get to experience this masterpiece. You’re right, the translated prose and writing style is a little funky - but it wouldn’t be the same without it I think. And the story more than makes up for it. Oooof and you haven’t even made it to THAT part yet 😭😭😭 Anyway!! Welcome to the fandom! And fair warning: you WILL be pressured endlessly into reading MDZS too 😂 it’s also amazing (but tgcf will always be my fave ofc)
@@Achlys94 to THAT part????!! oh lord i’m scared 😭😵💫 but this is so sweet i love how much everyone cares about this series!!! i’m forcing myself to take the last few volumes slow bc i don’t want it to end but it’s soooo difficult bc I WANNA KNOW THINGS 🥸
@ well if it makes you feel any better, the re-readability of these books is phenomenal lol so once you’re finished you can always look forward to round two! And three… and four… 😂 I swear I didn’t even catch some things until the fourth time - or because someone pointed it out in the fandom.
Loved your comments, do keep us updated with your tgcf journey 😆 Did you know that hualian invented love? Lmao Careful with the fanart, many possible spoilers.
Welcome to the club of people waiting forever for the drama ❤😢 (you might not be a drama person but I highly recommend you join us because we need international relevance for the Chinese do sell the drama to be broadcast outside China, it might be our only chance to see it 😢)
Omg giiiirl I love this books omggggg I'm afraid to tell you might be bc it's in English cause in Spanish is lovely (at least the traduction I got). Hearing you made want to read the whole story again (it's THAT WORTH IT) and could help but scream of joy with you and think about the parts where you'll go absolutely crazy, keep reading! You are gonna love it!! (Btw, keep me in mind when Xie Lian need more energy for the statue, I'll say no more 🤭)
I was not into BL or anime at all when I was introduced to TGCF. My sister told me about the book and how good it was along with the donghua. I was curious because it was the first time I had heard of a chinese animated series and at it felt a bit weird listening to the original audio, so I switched to the dubbed version and finished the first season. I really wasn’t sure what to think about the donghua. I didn’t fully understand the story or where it was going, and it felt like there were so many unanswered questions, especially about Xie Lian’s past and why everyone seemed to hate him. Out of curiosity, I decided to read the book just to see where the story was headed, and I completely fell in love with it. HuaLian were the first characters I ever shipped, and I’m still obsessed with them to this day
Mxtx is less known for her prose in comparison to priest and t97 but her world building and character development for hualian specifically is so good. There IS a theme in this so 👀 all the best reading
@@jennaclarek priest has written stars of chaos, silent reading (modern but a lot of friends I know LOVE this one) and guardian. The two last that I listed has a live action.
@@jennaclarek t97 best work is ballad of sword and wine (known as qiang jin jiu in Chinese). It is extremely political heavy so I would suggest watching some Chinese palace live action dramas (story of kunning palace is good enough) before starting just to get the hang of palace politics.
Girl, I followed you just because of this video, danmei is gold, when you start reading danmei all other fantasy just look bland... I admire that you a started with a hard one, the world building on heaven official's blessing is super complex. Next, try the untamed (the grandmaster of demonic cultivation), it has all adaptations possible...
HA well, welcome!! i honestly didn't find the worldbuilding in tgcf that difficult to understand but maybe i don't know my own strength 😅 definitely adding that one to the list though thanks!!!
please do what I did and follow tcgf with mxtx's the Scum Villiam Self-Saving System and then immediately follow up with Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation
your pronunciation is pretty good for someone who doesnt speak chinese! if youre interested i could give a list of names pronunciations and minor rules that will help. its nice to see other people take on tgcf as a hyperfixation
ahhh thank you! i'm just glad i'm on the right track haha and okay i kinda figured it was the translation that was off - i wish i could read actual chinese to see the difference!
@ i think it's really helpful to use an online dictionary like pleco that'll show you the exact meaning of each word and you can translate from raws yourself although you do have to take a few liberties in translating like shuffling cause the grammatical structure is different- it also provides a really good audio for each character (word i mean). its a bit slow but i think its one of the closest things you can get to knowing chinese without knowing chinese (thats an oxymoron im sorry). also some small pronunciation things even though you didnt ask cause im an infodumper 🫠- c like in tian guan ci fu is like a hissing s, ci is like the hissing s + a cross between and eh and uh sound in one syllable; xuan (im still sobbing over beefleaf ill never recover) is like shoo ahn but as one syllable; hua in donghua and hua cheng is the same sound ish; jun wu is like june woo; and feng xin is like fuhng seen. good luck with not dying by the end of the series!
