Both songs are great and both Elize and Simone are two of the best female vocalists in metal(along with others like Floor,Tarja,etc).
I missed Roy and Elize singing together, they always made for a beautiful duo.
There is something about Khan's voice , I don't care if he's fresh or burned out . There is some underlying emotion that is always present.Every words has emotional gravitas and it's never empty.
I dreamed about them reuniting and once they did I found out while I was working , It was quite a shock . Barely managed to keep my cool.
I'll tell you he's the single kindest guy working in showbiz. Every time I've chatted with him he's been world class.
This is what we needed for a quality time during this quarantine.
We really need it, I loved this song myself.

By no means do I ever intend to undermine the rest of the band, all 3 of them (Tore, Ignar and Arve are all exceptional musicians), but Roy has a special place in my heart. His voice always seems to help me control my inner demons and and lift my spirits! I will forever follow Roy on his musical journeys.

Roy Kahn 🙏. I have been listening to him for 20 years and will do it for the rest of my life!
Roy's voice is one of the few male beautiful voices I've heard. I mean there is something unique about it whether he is hitting low or high notes.
Elize should embrace this side of her. So much beauty in her voice, usually drowned out by overproduced or overlayered noise.
A good producer makes a world of difference in getting the most from your talent. Roy and Elise have worked together enough now I have a suspicion he knows exactly how to get the best from her.
It's so soothing to hear Roy's voice. He's just like no other vocalist now out there.
Khan's voice is just magic! I'm so happy he decided to continue with Conception!

As a fan of Kamelot ballads, this is one of my favourite songs from the album. The entire album is 10/10 though! My only problem is that it is too short :)

I just spontaneously teared up at how good Roy's voice is in the beginning.
Roy's vocals got so much stronger over the years with Kamelot. So much range and emotion.
So glad to hear a piece like this on the new album. It would be a crime not having Khan sing a soulful ballad on any album.

Holy Hell Roy, you wrote an amazing story on this one and sung it beautifully. This is NOT just another version of "House on a Hill", it's a great piece.
Elize is fantastic on this one. Also that part at 2:15 reminds me a bit of "Queensryche - Silent Lucidity" probably because of the strings.
I honestly wasn't getting very excited about Conception because it seemed to me that Roy wasn't reaching the same power and emotions in his voice that he had with Kamelot. But this song changes that.

Hi Mario! Rumor has it that Elton John thrashes ideas that don't make a song within 15 minutes. Can't say we work by equally strict rules, but some melodies simply come more easily than others. The melody for "The Mansion" was one of those. The main elements were in place after a few takes and we are still very happy with it. Falsetto came naturally. I really like breaking between head and chest voice within the same line or word. I'm afraid there is not as much thought behind it as you may think...or I may wish :))
Holy shit, Khan himself responds! Tate was my favorite male metal singer until I discovered Roy. Thanks for being you and blessing us with your instrument!

Hi Enes! Elize has always been a wonderful singer. Loved her voice from the first time I heard her on Amaranthe's "Hunger" and had a blast performing live with her several times. Elize has a very powerful voice, but I also love it when she takes it down like she does on "The Mansion". Looking forward to this part every time I listen back to the track.

Ingar, Crest of Darkness doesn't have any ballads like that, but your bass definitely matches slow music. Do you have a favorite ballad in the melodic metal scene? Oh, congratulations on the 25th anniversary this year since the release of the first CoD release. :)

It's true that we don't have any ballads in Crest of Darkness, but there are some quite moody and atmospheric songs on most of our releases, but on most of these songs the bass doesn't really have an important very role.
But I like playing songs like The Mansion quite a lot, and the bass ended up to be quite nice.
Favourite ballad.... hmmm... That's not easy. I guess I'm not mostly into the most typical heavy rock ballads. If I have to choose one song I'd say Dead Babies by Alice Cooper. It's such a wonderful song! ...and the bass track (especially on the original recordings on the Killer album) is just fantastic. I wouldn't say it's very moody, but it fits the song perfectly!
Hi John! On first listen I particularly remember the mid part giving me this weird dreamy feeling. As you also mentioned the song has an absolutely fabulous guitar solo. Out of all the wonderful solos Tore have played during his career this may quite possibly be my favorite. "The Mansion" is not a sequel to "House on a Hill", but thematically they are definitely related. Best, Roy

Hi Sonia! It's about a girl that chooses material values over true happiness. As for the female voice on the mid part; I originally tried this melody myself with a high and shiny falsetto, but it simply came out a little...eeehhrm...too female. Given the songs' lyrics it became even more obvious. Elize was the first singer we thought of for it, and the only one that was ever asked.
Streaming may well be an option at some point, but the fact that the band members live in different countries make things complicated as long as covid rules the nations. See you out there somewhere when this shit storm is over! Pardon my French ;-)

Hi Alberto! Tore is the main man behind the chords and instrumentation of this song. At some point we "took it to the mountains" where we rounded things up and I eventually laid the melody down. Glad you like it, man! I really like it too!
