Lily you seem so frugal, interested in finances and sticking to a budget. Thats such an interesting perspective compared to most influencers today! Would love some more finance content from you! 🩷
Love your choices for the table and Mdf but would definitely go with rounded edges for the base cushion - will save the legs more than you can imagine, cost to bruise ratio will be negligible. Love that you are financially responsible ❤
I absolutely love to finally hear someone use the word budget. Usually these things everyone seems to have an endless amount of money. I just love how realistic you are
I’ve followed you for years and just in this video I’m reminded why! So realistic and down to earth. Honestly you are in a prime chapter of your life from the outside looking in.
I really appreciate you talking about the financial decisions when doing renovations as well. With a lot of content creators I get the feeling that money just doesn‘t matter when buying/building interior stuff. So it‘s really nice to see a realistic approach! ❤
I have dual German / British citizenship because I moved to Berlin. I am so glad you and your family are getting the passport, and I think it makes the Germans feel that way too. It represents trust and reconciliation with the past which is what they are trying to build and have been trying for a long time. Also I think all the British getting EU passports is a sign of the continued connection between EU countries. It’s beautiful.
Lily, The fact that you’re nurturing, Grey to like reading is such a incredible moment for you, to acknowledge, my mom grew up with just sisters, & she only had daughters, & statistically speaking girls that grow up with just sisters are lower to care about stem, & my mom was very aware of making sure math, science was a priority for all of us by books, periodical table, baking & making sure those two subjects was something we were good at, considering being creative was something that came easy! So good on you on nurturing more stuff on her. To be so well rounded, You’re 🔥 mom!
I found the story of your grandpa so interesting ( yet so sad) Lily. The photo of you two together is so precious. What a wonderful idea of going in May with all your cousins etc. X You’re super creative and talented-love the idea of a sketch book. Love your sketches! X
Lily, thank you so much for this long vlog ❤ so so happy and grateful to start my sunday with this! I appreciate your hard work! Love from a fellow German 😊
I absolutely love seeing into your creative and practical processes for your bench and table set up - learnt so much! Can't wait to see it unfold! Loving your vlogs and videos and your energy - a lovely way to start my Sunday, thank you 💛
Im sorry your painting of the tree in the park is GORGEOUS! I think the ox blood would look amazing and would work well with your kitchen/living room colours. Very exciting and cant wait to watch the process!
Hi Lily, you mentioned seeing a life coach, I wonder if you can talk about how it’s going in a video. Would love to hear any advice/tips on feeling confident at work, re-building self esteem and feeling secure in decisions (have been struggling in these fields lately). Lots of love!
Hi Lily, congratulations on your German citizenship and getting your passport. I spent a decade living and working in Germany in the 80s-90s and still have friends from that time that I am in touch with, and have visited many times over the years. Your trip in May sounds fantastic, and what a great gift for your children!
Love the oval table idea. Would the curved bench work w a rectangle cushion that ends just before the curves? I think it could still look neat that way.
we had a bench made for our hall to store shoes too. The kitchen fitter made the bench as he used the same products as the kitchen. The cushion my dad found a local guy who reupholsters chairs and he just got some foam measured it up and got a nice enough but still inexpensive fabric to cover it. Was not as hard as you’d have thought.
I'm quite a fan of the oxblood color as well--I think it would look so cool across from the dark blue kitchen, but not too heavy for a space with so much light in it. I really enjoyed your talk through of WHAT and HOW you want the room to flow. We have a similarly narrow, busy space with an inherited, huge dining table in our dining room, but I don't have a great eye for interior design and this was so inspiring for me. I can't wait to see what comes out!
I’m behind, so this is 7 days later… but don’t listen to any comments. I was SO skeptical of some of your choices and they have all turned amazing. They look so good and classic that I would trust your instincts, because your house is gorgeous!
It’s so hard to find the right furniture for your home! No one talks about this. There’s quite a bit of trial and error involved. I also feel with a family you definitely do have to make changes and upgrades as you learn what works. We are looking to change our dining table but it’s tough to know how big we should go and also which wood colour goes and isn’t going to clash with our wood flooring and chairs. I appreciate you talking through all the details, find this really helpful!
I did not know you have German citizenship that's cool I am from Germany as well 😍 I think it can help if they want to be working travelling in the EU 😊 I love the fact that you are all going back as well sounds lovely to learn about his childhood in Germany 😊 and given that it was such a horrible situation for him to be in I think it is a nice way of at least giving something back to offer that you family and anyone else in that situation can get a citizenship I did not know that either to be fair😊
Hi Lily, most carpenters that do custom furniture can actually provide also the upholstery part. They collaborate with different fabric suppliers and you can choose in their shop all the package. You can also ask quotation for a table as you need it so that you are not restricted with catalogue measurements. Nice Vlog xx
we also got second citizenship mostly for our daughter and possible future kids. In this case is the Croatian one , through my husband's grandpa. I can also get the Italian one through my great-grandma, although that one is a bit harder to get. I think it's very cool for kids to have another passport, but also to know where their families came from and the struggles our ancestors had to go through in life. Making a book for Grey sounds like an amazing idea! PS: here where we live (Santiago, Chile) is hard to get an appointment in the Croatian Embassy; my husband had his interview for citizenship logged 2 years in advance. Thing is, I got into labour in the morning of that very same day😂 what were the chances!! I told him he had to go anyway! So I struggled for about two hours on my own before he came back (succesfully) and we could go to the hospital to have our baby😝
I’m hesitant in sharing my opinion as I don’t in any way wish to rain on your parade. However, it’s just one opinion you can totally disregard, so here goes. Having a built-in banquette could make the future resale of your home more challenging. Have you considered other bench options? Perhaps an old church pew from a reclamation yard, a wooden settee, or just a no-frills, portable wood bench you can dress up with a cushion. Having the option to move it about when necessary can be very beneficial over a built-in... and I would think much more cost effective. A bench you can move seems a great option, especially if you aren’t going for the additional storage. Just a thought to do with as you please. Hope a different opinion helps and doesn’t create confusion. ☺️😊🥰
I read at bed to my son from when he was tiny - we loved Enid Blyton books like the Faraway Tree series and then when he got older Roald Dahl was a fave.
Reading to yor children has been shown to be one of the best things you can do for them educationally, obviously also helps you build a good relationship with them too.
I am always a silent listener and never comment, but I just wanted to say that your videos and especially vlogs are my absolute favourites! I was wondering if maybe you can share your Notion setup and/ or any tips you have for fuss-free Notion use. Really want to get into it, but feel very intimidated by it 🫣 I know that there’s a lot of videos on it, but I just need something simple and relatable.
Lily I got an oval table from LaRedoute. I have the tulip base in black and a solid walnut oval table top. I love it. The top is small compared to what you mentioned you wanted (170×100) but I thought there was no harm in mentioning it as I'm in love with what I got. It's called Hisia. Maybe if the base works the top could be handmade, I guess. Best of luck and look forward to what you come up with for the space
oh and I totally get you of not being able to watch TV whilst not doing anything! That's why I knit and crochet😂 but I also used to draw...I should go back to it!
Hi Lily. Thanks for sharing your process. So fascinating. I have a thought about the curved bench. I think you could do it and have a rectangular cushion. No one is really going to be sitting on the curved part anyway. Just a thought. I think whatever you decide will be great.
Hi Lily! Are you considering doing a major renovation to make an extension of your house for more space? Or would you rather move to a different forever home?
For the bench - I'm pretty sure painted MDF will be cheaper (even when you account for labour costs), plus then you can always repaint it later down the line if you want to change things up or want to make it more neutral for selling. For the fabric bench seat, find a local upholsterer, they will make the cushion (most likely in a foam), and cover it with fabric and also install it for you. Good luck, I'm sure it will look great!
Best thing is to if you can follow the key topics on their curriculum re history. I.e year 2 great fire of London. My girl this year did artic and Antarctica so we went to a theatre type join in event at our local museum that was about Antarctica. Just makes it feel more normal as I'm not that into history either 😂
You could also use some square/ rectangle already made chair cushions and stick some velcro on the Bench to keep them in Place and remove for washing. It would be cheaper and easy to change. Love this vlog! Thank you for sharing ❤
Sounds like you already know what you're talking about when it comes to your design plans. Nice to have someone to discuss it with but surely you should be given suggestions within your price point, without having to search yourself for cheaper alternatives - especially when you're paying for a service
Could you not attach the bench seat to the wall so you could take it with you if you needed to so you could go with some dreamy patterned fabric? Having thoughts!
I have a 4 and 2 year old. Velvet has been surprisingly amazing for us!! Wipes clean with a baby wipe - including ball point pen, blood(!), yogurt. Try a velvet for your dining cushions. You won’t regret it.
You need a furniture upholsterer for the cushions, they should be able to help sort out the innards based on use and budget. Getting a good base for the table seems smart since you need such a specific top size, maybe you can find a vintage one? Although there’s the whole time spent cost there. Love the ideas and plan, best of luck!
Lily, i once more noticed that you have a good hand! Very nice drawings! Could you please share a photo of the 3d page with the line work doodles once completed?
Yeah with the plans for the Bench - I agree break it down into get the bench made first. You could just as a first step get two quotes and see what you think.
It would be so handy if you could find someone to make you a custom dining table! Hopefully although it’s custom, it wouldn’t have to be really expensive. Is this a common thing in the UK?
I feel like you could have a family gallery wall above your bench maybe? Your family seems so important to you I imagine it would be nice to share that area with them.
Love this video Lily! We recently purchased the Etta table from habitat, rounded edges but not completely oval, extendable and likely narrow enough for you space. I love it, may be worth taking a look at!
If your kiddos like music I would recommend the audiobook: mystwick school of musicraft (spelling??) anyway the audiobook has music throughout and it really adds to the story. Happy reading!
Hi Lily! After doing a lot of research, I had two window seat cushions made last year from Foam Superstore. The website looks pretty dated, but the quality of the cushions and price is great. They are handmade by the company and can made to any size and shape. I ordered quite a few fabric samples from them in advance as it's pretty impossible to tell which ones are nice from the website photos!
We have a very similar space to you and have contemplated a bench but like you we often push the table right against the wall to give more space in the day. Still struggling to find the perfect table!
Love it, Lily. Have you ever seen Caroline Winkler's videos? I think you would really enjoy them. She suggests that, if youre not in your permanent home, keep the big things neutral and spend money on the accessories like cushions which can easily be swapped out or taken with you. Lots of good suggestions in the comments including gplan. Also your doodles and painting are really good! Amd i would love budgeting/finamce content because i really need help with that!
I've seen many designers use an indoor/outdoor fabric on interior upholstered pieces for durability and ease of cleaning. Maybe that could be an option??
It's surprisingly difficult choosing dining tables, we really struggled with this. We have an open plan living room and dining room but we chose a large rectangular table and it was just so big snd bulky I ended up hating it. We now have a round tulip table and it's much less dominant. It's a great idea to get expert advice.
Use Sunbrella fabric made for outdoor furniture. It's fade resistant, easy to clean, and durable. Think of having the cushion covers made so they can be removed and washed.
Lily, try to look for a “oval trestle table” instead, as tulip-style is pretty difficult to get safe with kids (and you BIL can probably mimic a trestle table easily) 😊 Choose your lenght, and desired width and calculate the sloping angle from there ❤️
I think that’s wonderful thinking about your kids and the German citizenship, the next generation are the ones to really suffer after leaving the EU, so many opportunities they’ll miss out on its such a shame. It’s a lovely thing for you to do the family trip and honour your Grandad. I recently bought the Mario skin enhancer too after all the hype and it’s such a great bronzer, even on no makeup days it’s nice to warm and even out the skin. I think your Reno plans look great, you’ve got a vision and it sounds and looks like you’re on your way to getting there and thinking about it logically and sensibly. It’s a tricky thing that you want to get it right, like you say your tastes change. We completely renovated our house 10 years ago and there’s always things you maybe look back on and think oh I’d have done that differently maybe so it’s a constant evolution! Look forward to seeing how it goes ❤
Definitely look into having the table made, I think you’d be surprised at the cost. More affordable than you’d think & much more cost effective than paying $$$ for a table that’s not quite right.
Hi Lily! I have watched ALL your videos throughout the years and I never really comment and I just thought I should just pop on over the comment section to say hi and to say thanks for all the great content through out your whole content creator journey! I’ve even gotten my husband hooked to your channel ◡̈ we love watching your new videos and it’s something we both look forward to watching on Sunday mornings(we live in California)
You should start knitting! I started knitting almost a year ago and now I’m addicted 😅 started for the same reason as you „scrolling in the evening“. I know you didn’t ask for new hobbies BUT IF you wanted to give knitting a go: I can recommend petite knit (especially the Sophie scarf, all over IG) as a really nice beginner project.
I love that Uniqlo trench coat, I ordered one last week but there newest one isn’t as nice as that one. Doesn’t have the lovely patterned lining and the colour for too light for my liking. Shame as the quality was lovely
Lilyyyy I know you’re not looking for more advice but I would do some charity shopping - you could maybe find an old curtain/duvet cover/quilt in a funky pattern for the bench cover. I know you’re time poor but could be fun!
Making a curved seat cushion isn't that bad - you can buy a rectangle block of seat foam and cut the curve with an electric bread knife. A cover would be made of a top, bottom, and the strip around the side - that strip would still be a long rectangle, just going around a curve. In terms of who - upholsterer, or a local seamstress might do it for you x
I’ve been following for years. To be honest, during your last year at Gleam, your videos became boring and very similar to all the other influencers. Since you’ve changed management teams, you seem so much more relaxed, relatable, and creative. I really enjoy watching your videos again.
Thank you. It’s nothing to do with management though. They have no involvement with my organic content at all, they just help me with the logistics of paid work.
Enjoyable London vlog today.Your photo of beloved German born Grandpa reminds me of my family! We are also entitled to German passports as they were born and lived there but were stripped of their citizenship and passports because they were Jewish! Was many years ago but thank you but no thank you as happy to remain proud British Jew..
Sounds like a great plan....I once had a long thin oval table....it was the make of the gplan....I bet you can find a charity shops....or like your brother in law said ....it can easy cut something to size....the edges can be sanded and you can stain in similar colours... Good luck in organization....you definitely know your stuff when you come to finding out what products there are beauty wise...do the same in furniture... google is your help...look at the images and narrow down x well you already have done. Most of it x looking forward to seeing what you choose x
Lily you seem so frugal, interested in finances and sticking to a budget. Thats such an interesting perspective compared to most influencers today! Would love some more finance content from you! 🩷
I completely agree. And would definitely watch that content.
Easy to be frugal when you receive many of lifes luxuries for free.
OMG yes great idea x
@@margaretanne7762 sure that's an aspect that needs to be acknowledged but I guess it could be helpful nonetheless
Honestly you are in a prime chapter of your life from the outside looking in.
thank you so much!! so kind xx

You are 100% my favourite youtuber and always look forward to your Sunday videos ☺️❤
Thank you so much xx
You’re super creative and talented-love the idea of a sketch book. Love your sketches! X
That's where I found you doing up your house. Love your style ❤
Lily, love where your channel is headed to. This content is top notch. You really found your niche and I very much enjoy your videos.
I think YOU should do the artwork for your dining space - it’s so good!
I think if I do a gallery wall I'll try to incorporate some homemade stuff too!
Always looking forward to those cosy and relatable vlogs. This is my personal treat in a very full week.
Lily, thank you so much for this long vlog ❤ so so happy and grateful to start my sunday with this! I appreciate your hard work! Love from a fellow German 😊
Also, IKEA has great patterned fabrics at a good price point!
You’re the best!! Look at you killing it with the dancing! What an awesome outlet, proud of you for getting out of your comfort zone 🎉
WOW- your art pieces are amazing in the sketch book-so talented! Where does it end ;) Love the vlogs Lily
Lily, what a fab video. You are on a roll now...
A 35 min vlog? YES, LILY! ❤
I absolutely love seeing into your creative and practical processes for your bench and table set up - learnt so much! Can't wait to see it unfold! Loving your vlogs and videos and your energy - a lovely way to start my Sunday, thank you 💛

Fellow creative 👊 your art is SO good!!
I’m hesitant in sharing my opinion as I don’t in any way wish to rain on your parade. However, it’s just one opinion you can totally disregard, so here goes. No - a built in bench is very useful and popular, plus easily removeable so wouldn't affect resale negatively at all.
I read at bed to my son from when he was tiny - we loved Enid Blyton books like the Faraway Tree series and then when he got older Roald Dahl was a fave.

oh and I totally get you of not being able to watch TV whilst not doing anything! That's why I knit and crochet😂 but I also used to draw...I should go back to it!
You could encourage Grey to keep a sort of reading journal in which she draws/writes about every book that you read together. Great hobby overlap ;)
Hi Lily. Thanks for sharing your process. So fascinating. I have a thought about the curved bench. I think you could do it and have a rectangular cushion. No one is really going to be sitting on the curved part anyway. Just a thought. I think whatever you decide will be great.

I’d go second hand for the dining table. Teak mid century- you’ll find something amazing 🤩

Love Blink. Vanita's daughter Anya is my daughters bestie. They are truly lovely people.
Lily, try to look for a “oval trestle table” instead, as tulip-style is pretty difficult to get safe with kids (and you BIL can probably mimic a trestle table easily) 😊 Choose your lenght, and desired width and calculate the sloping angle from there ❤️
Really enjoyed the dining area chat :) make it a video idea, to keep you accountable? 😅
there is a couple of oval tables on laredoute which are fairly priced. maybe there is one you like.
I love home stuff!
The best content creator 🏆🌍
Happy Sunday Lily
Oxblood look looked good
Maybe a charity shop trip would be good, they have lots of wooden tables that you could makeover and it would be budget friendly
Love this video!❤
It could be fun to include some of the kids’ drawings in the gallery wall.
Etsy has great custom bench cushions!
Love your videos!
Would love to hear more when you’re back from your trip! And if you need help with translation of documents I’d be willing to do that ☺️🇩🇪
Wow never knew that part of your backstory! Is the village in the south or more north?😊
