When you do "NOT" a Mercruiser engine aligned correctly!

This is what is is like when the engine is not aligned correctly. It is very hard to push in teh alignment bar.

As a certified mech for 13 plus years,, if it looks good, bump the starter n rotate the engine 180. Stick it again.. If the result is way off, you have a bad coupler from a bad previous alignment. Pull the motor.. Replace the coupler. N start over..

I just did mine. Initially it took some effort, less than you have. I raised both front mounts about an 1/8 inch and now I can insert the tool with one finger and extract it with two fingers.

you should not have to force the tool at all. Should slide with very little resistance

do i have to do that aligment if the outdrive hasnt been taken off but the motor has?

You should NEVER remove an engine without first taking the drive off. NOT EVER!

No... The alignment tool slides in where the yoke from the drive goes.
