Hmmm…. A lot of people forget this, but when Chicago blew out St Louis earlier that day, Washington trailed on point differential. So in a sense all they had left was the NFC East Title
Roger gets all the cudos and rightfully so , the man was a great leader and no matter the situation as a cowboy fan I never felt that we were out of any game, some how some way Roger would find a way to lead us back but if not for the effort of one my favorite and one of the most over looked players on the cowboys from that era was Larry Cole, if not for his great play on 3rd and short on Riggins then this game goes down in the history books as a gut wrenching loss to our most bitter rival. Thank you Larry Cole!
Oh yes, and because Dallas beat Washington, the Chicago Bears could make the playoffs if they beat the Cardinals & covered the point differential advantage that Washington had (which was +33). Bears won 42-6, so Washington went home.
Preston Pearson (26) always seemed to make big plays for Dallas, but he did it quietly and consistently. IMO a very underrated player, as a runner and receiver. Great win for Dallas. Great game.
To this day...this is the best game i've ever watched
Awesome Cowboys memory!!!! Thanks so much for this!!!!
That was John Riggins last touchdown until 1981 he held out the entire 1980 season
My Son who was 10 and I were at this game.

The Cowboys of my childhood, great memories.
John riggins used to have to live in a storage container place due to a divorce when he was still playing
Remember this one like it was yesterday. Great victory!

This game had playoff implications for 3 teams going into the last week of the season

This game was definitely “All or Nothing” for the Washington Redskins.
Redskin win would have had a Dallas at Washington Wildcard Game the next week
When Larry Cole made that tackle on Riggins, the Skins were done right there
Roger Staubach could win the game no matter how much time was on the clock.
Springs!
I almost had a heart attack watching this game and I was only 12 years old when I saw it
