About your point with compensating creators Surprisingly enough, this does happen within some instances, but it's actually really disliked by a lot of the community. There's this idea that levels will lose the artistic passion a lot of them currently have if there is a financial incentive. It's something we already see with "creator points" which are given to a creator when their level gets recognized by the developer of the game and rated/featured. With nexus specifically, I've had 2 of my levels featured on their channel and I can confidently say I've never even thought about wanting financial compensation, and I'm certain 99% of the creators of the levels he showcases haven't either. It's a prestigious thing in a way that gets your level out to more eyes. If your level gets popular and you wanna make money off it, make RUclips videos about it yourself. It's exactly what voxicat did with ispywithmylittleeye. It's kinda a shame you spent so long of the video talking about this issue because it's really a non-issue for almost any creator in the game. It would require a really complex system, may overshadow a lot of genuine artistic expression and passion, and is something the community doesn't even want from everything that I've seen
I suppose I have a different perspective simply because I'm not incredibly into the community. I don't watch a huge amount of videos for it, I just play cool levels on my phone. I completely understand that a lot of people think that adding monetary incentive can dull artistic passion, but it's worth remembering that art (stuff like film, tv, fine arts) typically co-exist with money. People create art because they're passionate about it but passion doesn't necessarily pay the bills. It might even promote ingenuity, who knows? I did sort of touch on the fact that you could just create your own channel, but it won't result in the viewership that bigger RUclipsrs will attract. Voxicat's video saw a whopping 2.2M views but that's an eighth of what Nexus received. I think it's fair enough if you don't want the money, but surely it should at least be an option for these creators. Especially considering these creators are quite young, and likely unaware of the amounts of money they are declining. Ultimately it is just my opinion, and it is up to the community to decide what they'd like to do with this alternate perspective. I hugely appreciate the comment - it's really interesting to get a bit of context, especially that this idea is unfavorable within the community! Thanks for watching!
@@progress_games while some might find the monetary incentive to fuel their creativity, there WILL be people who just do it for money, and it will overshadow the people who make actual good levels. also geometry dash just isnt the place for that kind of thing.
@@axiompro123 yea, there's already a good amount of creators who seemingly just create for creator points; adding money into the equation would make it so much worse

12:35 dude nexus also plays the game and uploads his completions lol. Making levels is a passion project and everyone knows it won't make them money simply by making it. Showcases are actually heavily appreciated by creators cause it gets them attention, it's hardly exploitation, and they ask showcasers to present their levels.
If nexus were to try to give compensation for creators levels the easiest way to do so is via a set fee to showcase a level before he post them to a yt channel, asking the creators permission before it
The problem with monetary based creation is that people would start losing creativity and just head for the money. Everything will go crap. A lot of games have fallen in this same hole and all ended up dying or going rotten. I think geometry dash levels being free creations is good because creators create not for the money, but for creativity, which is healthy.
i had a really long comment (literally 6 paragraphs) going over why people dont really care about being paid revenue for their levels (it is REALLY in-depth and by that i mean you covered not even a fraction of what i was saying) but i stopped caring so in summary 1. theres creator points given to the creators of levels robtop approve of and its why most people make levels 2. people like expressing their ideas and creativity in the gd editor anyways and 3. people like collaborating with others the reason no one minds channels like nexus making all this money from their work is because a creator seeing their level being showcased wouldnt be annoyed, but honoured, since they don't build with money in mind at all and moreso just creator points and the ability to show their level to a wider audience. so in short, having your level on nexus' channel is actually a really good thing. a large creator like him will only upload levels he considers the best of the best/worth his time, and serves as more of a shoutout from one of the largest community figures. nexus makes your level popular while giving you a huge boost in status/popularity, while he makes some fat racks. as a matter of fact, people will request or even beg for youtube channels to upload a showcase of their level (which i have done so myself), on quite a regular basis as a matter of fact. if you were to ask somebody who uploaded your video on their channel for a portion of their revenue you would be considered a jackass in the community lmao i dont think its a good idea for robtop to pay creators. that would just incentivise creator point grinders to pump out more low effort levels and for more people to steal creations, which are both already prominent issues in gd. anyways sick video! theres a bunch of issues in what u said that i really dont feel like clarifying (unless someone wants me to) because this game is complex af but you did a great job researching i was pretty impressed !!!!
Honestly I’d love to hear what else you had written up if you can be bothered. I think it’s a really unique dynamic because most people don’t care about the money, but also don’t know how much money they’re missing out on. A lot of different creative pursuits can have money as an incentive that doesn’t compromise the creative integrity of those involved. Stuff like music creation, RUclips videos, and video games will all garner the creator money but that doesn’t mean they sacrifice quality. I think if there was monetary incentive it would, if anything, add more ingenuity to levels. And with nexus, I think it’d be even more of an honour if he got in touch and said ‘hey, I’d love to showcase your level. I normally pay $XX per XX views or a flat rate of $XX.’
@@progress_games it would be weird to draw a line between people uploading difficult accomplishments in the game just to show it off and somebody such as nexus showcasing a level for views and money, because nexus IS an incredibly skilled player and beating everything on his channel legitimately. a scenario like that realistically would never happen, because it would just become way too problematic for regular players and would need some miracle within the community to somehow organize something like that. thats an entire point i forgot to mention LMAO
All of the times that I’ve seen the creator of a level in nexus’s comment section they are usually thanking nexus for showcasing the level to such a big audience
I don't think there is a single game with such a complex, multifunctional sandbox. There is a undecillion undecillions of different levels that can be created because the level editor just features so many variables, and most importantly, it gives you a wide variety of songs too. This is why Geometry Dash will never die, it's because we will never get even close to truly running out of ideas before ANOTHER update comes out and opens up even more possibilities
This video was great! I agree with the monetization of levels being too low and unfair. I hope that in the future level creators will be more compensated.
I would love to see this happen, but robtop will never do this because at the end of the day he has being doing the same thing for 10 years and its made him a lot of money. He even has achievements set up where you need to release levels in his game in order to unlock them in order to incentivise level creation so that he doesnt need to put effort into updating the game.
Hard disagree that creators should be monetized. At the end of the day, Geometry Dash levels are an art form, and people make levels out of passion. Adding a financial incentive would not only be a logistical nightmare, but it'd turn it from something done out of passion to something done out of desire for monetary gain.
Movies, painting, music, books, video games are all forms of art that can also financially support the creator. Passion and monetary gain are not mutually exclusive.
the way games like this die is by just simply not working anymore. lets say windows 12 comes out and you cant open the game anymore. ive seen people updating games themself to keep it going when that happens but thats basically it. at some point they can relese such complex os change that it would be too much to just make the game work again and game will die. id estimate this time frame is around 200 years
Interestingly enough, this game didn’t work on iOS for about 4 years but its prominence on other platforms remained. I’d imagine if it stopped working on PC, people would figure out a way to port it from mobile.
Take this as criticism, not hate. I agree with most of the video, but your point on paying the level creators is outright ignorant. You said multiple times that they are motivated by their own passion, and when they make the decision to spend hundreds of hours on a level they know that they will make 0 dollars and still do it. If someone wanted to make money from level creation there are ways to do it, but it's simply not their priority. An artist that is driven by monetary gain is not an artist in the first place. You said that showcasers are exploiting level creators, wouldn't that be the case with everything then? For example would you have to pay royalties to robtop for making money from playing his game? Or maybe if you're playing a free game for a video should you pay a cut to the developer? Does a movie critic need to pay the director to make a review video? If you say yes then you agree with most copyright laws that if they were true RUclips would be a television program, and independence would be a crime. Tl;dr they don't want money because passion is not fueled by money
I appreciate the distinguishing between the two 😅 I think you have an interesting point. You could even say, should I pay money to RobTop for making a video about his game and making money on the video? I think the answer is no. The important factor about RobTop, about the director of a film, or even a lot of free games, is that they all have ways they can or are making money. Directors want people to talk about a movie because it'll make them money. RobTop wants people to showcase and discuss his game because it'll make him money. Even developers of free games will want people to play the game and create content for it, because chances are if there isn't already a way to monetise it, there will be soon! But for GD players, they want people to see their level because they're proud of what they've created. That's cool too, and completely fair enough. But the dynamic is distinctly different because then the person who did all the creative input gets paid nothing while the RUclipsr gets paid. Even fine artists, think painting or drawing, want people to promote their stuff in order to get visibility, get money, and create a career out of their passion. Passion and money can co-exist, and money can enable someone to explore their passion in its entirety! Thanks for the comment!!
10:46 "altho.. its not quite exploiting child labor like in starbound" hool' up .. what?? (also, touché.. its an interesting topic issue thing when you put it that way.. but yeah ig the creator's levels being showcased on youtube don't get youtube money compensation.. )
insane to mention communism and then spend half the video talking about monetary compensation for the creation of art which would bring all the cons of capitalism into geometry dash and possibly ruin the entire creator community
THIS GAME SHOULD BE DEAD BJT IT ISNT, ive been playing since late 1.9 early 2.0 i think. Like 2015, god i feel old, but i remember getting those first user coins, racing friends for the most coins. What a time man. Look up Devils Creek btw. Old level my feiend made, on his phone and its alot of timings😂
I literally spent half a dollar in Play Market to get official licensed copy of this game in my country. However, Robtop himself said that he doesn't want to increase the prices for GD
4:18 Creators don't work and make cool stuff just for the sake of it and 100% just passion. Fame, youtube views that give money and creator points are the incentive. Rewards motivate people to make masterpieces, without rewards, most people don't see it worth it. When you can gain money or something from doing anything, people put more effort and give it more importance, which always ends up in a higher quality product. Same with top players, what do you think motivates top players to verify levels and get ridiculously good? fame, clout, money, being the number 1... And yes sure, they might have fun, but not always. If their only reason to play this game, get good and make levels is "to have fun" or "make cool stuff", we would not have players and creators this good. Communism doesn't work with human nature, and the GD community is not an example of communism at all. Without any incentive at all, without creator points, YT views that give money and the possibility of becoming famous... I don't think we would get the same quality of levels. There's a reason why most if not all the countries in the world are most a capitalism and those that are said to not be, in reality are also capitalism with some socialist or communism aspects here and there. Purely communist societies don't succeed in the large scale. Communist and socialist societies work in paper but not in practice, they sound like an amazing idea, but once you try them, they don't work... Once again, at least not in the large scale like a country or a big community. Communism works with small groups of people. Am sorry to tell you, but GD is a bit of a capitalism lol. Good players and level creators are the ones that make the "products" which they try to "sell" to the rest of players, these players decide what levels or what players are the best, and the best are the ones that end up becoming more famous and make more money. Competition is CRUCIAL for creativity and pushing boundaries. Look at the space race, look at all the technology that emerges in wars... Look at what people make in creator contests in GD. Im living proof of this myself, when Im competing against someone, I always end up doing better than I thought I was capable of. Communism is the lack of competition, communism is not rewarding innovation and extra effort... Communism leads to the stagnation of society, laziness, it leads to corrupt governments... etc. This has been proven over and over again.
@@victoriamacarthur8906 Trust me it is. Many top creators and top players literally live of creating GD content, they make thousands of dollars. Becoming a famous GD player/creator makes money. Look the amounts of views the verification videos have for example, or the amount of views level showcases have. Millions or hundreds of thousands. You can become a famous GD content creator by simply doing GD videos without really being an outstanding player o creator, but being a very good player or creator makes the chances of you actually succeeding WAY higher or even guaranteed.

I appreciate the distinguishing between the two 😅
I think you have an interesting point.
Thanks for the comment!!
funfact: some of the creators have yt channels! so some of them get some money!
10:46 "altho.. its not quite exploiting child labor like in starbound"
hool' up .. what??
(also,
touché.. its an interesting topic issue thing when you put it that way.. but yeah ig the creator's levels being showcased on youtube don't get youtube money compensation.. )
Incredibly underrated
insane to mention communism and then spend half the video talking about monetary compensation for the creation of art which would bring all the cons of capitalism into geometry dash and possibly ruin the entire creator community
Fair point. Noones really asking for a change. I was just giving my opinion on the matter! Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
"GD will never die" mfs when the servers get inevitably shut down permanently

@@progress_games :) it deserves way more attention
I love GD Cologne
Honestly RobTop should have made gd cost more, I’ve played like 1000 hours per dollar I’ve spent on this game
i agree 100%, this game is criminally cheap. plus, people are able to recreate entirely different games within it!
I literally spent half a dollar in Play Market to get official licensed copy of this game in my country. However, Robtop himself said that he doesn't want to increase the prices for GD
lolllllll who would play this lollll notheless make levels.... cant be me!
bro the gameplay is fire!
the gameplay: tap to jump
11:19 no way its avernus
Yeah it’s actually quaoar - my bad!

Communism leads to the stagnation of society, laziness, it leads to corrupt governments... etc.
This has been proven over and over again.
its not that deep
@@victoriamacarthur8906 Trust me it is. Many top creators and top players literally live of creating GD content, they make thousands of dollars.
Becoming a famous GD player/creator makes money.
Look the amounts of views the verification videos have for example, or the amount of views level showcases have. Millions or hundreds of thousands.
You can become a famous GD content creator by simply doing GD videos without really being an outstanding player o creator, but being a very good player or creator makes the chances of you actually succeeding WAY higher or even guaranteed.
I beat sayitback thanks to this video
