    Hi everyone ,
    I am aware that the music doesnt last the whole length of the video but I couldnt find a suitable piece long enough .
    ******
    Barton Broad was purchased by NWT in 1945, and is the second largest of the Norfolk Broads.
    The Broad was dug out in the Middle Ages for peat extraction. Later, the River Ant was diverted through its centre, allowing navigation. Prior to the Second World War the Broad was famed for its clear waters and rich diversity of aquatic plant life. In the second half of the 20th century pollution led to increasing nitrate and phosphate levels and an abundance of algae, to the detriment of other biodiversity.
    Since the 1990s, the river quality has steadily improved. Nutrient enriched mud was pumped out of the broad in 1995 and with improving water quality, fish and aquatic plants have made
    an impressive comeback, along with other species such as common terns (which nest on artificial platforms), otters, kingfishers and herons. The surrounding fen areas are home to a number of nationally rare plants and invertebrates.
    **above information taken from the Norfolk Wildlife Trust website **
    I walked along the Barton Broad Board Walk to get to the viewing point. In summer this Broad would be full of boats but as it’s February, I only managed to see one boat. Plenty of wildfowl though.
    I have filmed from here in Summer and also I’ve filmed while on the lovely cruiser Gala Girl. If you look in my boat trips playlist, you’ll find this very video of my day out with Julie and Brad. 🛥😍

    How cold and dark Barton Broad looks in winter. I'm used to walking the Barton boardwalk in spring and summer when everything looks green & bright and the carr woodland is alive with the song of warblers and buntings. The cormorants look well fed and the swans seem to be finding enough to survive, until spring is with us again. I liked the pictures of the lichen encrusted branches, a lovely attention to little details in nature that are often dismissed. Good to see the reeds and Flag Iris beginning to sprout from the dark peaty depths, spring is coming!...

      Thank you Andy, spring is definitely on its way, you are quite right. The daffodils I filmed won’t be too much longer before they flower. I do like lichen. I also like how the moss picks just random branches to live on. Nature is wonderful.

    How nice to have a boardwalk through the carr. Can't remember seeing the wreck, complete with cormorant crew, though. Anglers call cormorants the black death because they eat all the fish. I do know of several wherry wrecks on Barton Broad. One used to be visible, just about, as you walked through the woods by the moorings at Barton Turf. Mother nature had just about consumed it and that was over twenty years ago. I believe the wherry was called Victory. I've mentioned two others before.

      It’s actually a wooden platform for the cormorants and anyone else who wishes to join them. Ranworth Broad has similar smaller ones for the little terns. Filby broad also has them. 😀 The board walk is really peaceful. A great way of getting through the carr. My favourite board walk, is the one at Brundall Church Fen. It’s possibly the longest one I’ve found so far.
      I’ve not seen the wreck at Barton Turf that you mention.

    My Wife and i have been enjoying your videos , especially those around Ludham Bridge . We had cruising holidays on the broads for over 20 years so know every river and broad! Richardsons have really caused congestion on the Ant with their vast fleet , it was much peaceful in our day! Keep up the good work , its appreciated now that our boating days are over !

    • @NewnameSameme
      @NewnameSameme  2 года назад

      Thank you for your lovely comments about watching my videos. 😊
      The congestion , in my opinion, was due to all the staycations connected with covid19 and people unable to fly abroad. Every boat yard on the Broads network, had every boat out, even all the day boats were out too. Only one boat can go under the bridge at a time. This made a queue form each side of the bridge. Being on water the queue moved about and occasionally boats hit each other. I don’t think it was just Richardson’s boats, it was various boats from everywhere. All wanting to go in opposite directions. Great to film, great to watch …. 😍🛥⛵️
      I’m sorry to hear your boating days are over. How about a houseboat instead ? You would still be on the water and be able to watch the boats passing.
      Thank you both 🛥⛵️

    Hi Lisa Barton looks so different in the winter, the guy on the reed cutters boat, am I right in thinking that it's an old photo, because the guy looks like a reed cutter called Eric, who years ago we used to meet up at How Hill, where he kept stacks of reeds, he would be quite old now if he's still alive, he was such a character, and a comedian, with a very strong Norfolk accent, lovely man! he used to cut the reeds with a scythe, the old way, and told us that he was about the only one who did it that way then as it was becoming mechanised, he used to tell us he was a millionaire and he only cut reeds for fun, we used to see one or two otters on Barton too, usually where you leave the river to enter the broad, loved the video Lisa, as always 🌞🌞👍

      Hi Suzanne, his photo is on an information board on the Barton Broad Board Walk. That was what I filmed. Lovely that you got to meet him.

      Yes I managed to find a boat. Nice of them to pick that exact moment for a sail past 😂🛥
      The board walk is lovely. It’s along Irstead Road.
      I filmed tomorrow’s video this morning in the 2 hours of sunshine ☀️ we had. An early start to be out in the sun but definitely worth it in my opinion. I’m just putting it together right now. It was very cold 🥶 despite the sun.

    Is that a sunken boat the cormorants are using as a handy place to hang out?

    • @NewnameSameme
      @NewnameSameme  2 года назад

      It’s a wooden structure that has been put there. Some places like Ranworth have them for the terns . This ones a bit bigger than the tern ones though.

    Thank you again for a lovely video on a wet Sunday Morning! I had holidays with my Dad at The Barton Angler Hotel at least 65 years ago. They had wooden fishing dinghies with British Seagull outboard motors. We set off from the Staithe at dawn in the mist and felt our way from marker pole to marker pole.
    I am not sure if there are any fish left in Barton Broad with all those cormorants feeding day after day !!
    Do not get too cold out filming. Did the storm cause any local damage ?

      @NewnameSameme  2 года назад

      Morning,
      No damage at ours luckily, how about yourself?
      I feel there are more cormorants than before on the Broads but I’m no expert, just my observations. Your fishing trip sounds a proper adventure 🎣 it’s great to have lovely memories.
      Rain here again today and the wind is getting stronger once more . Luckily I filmed today’s video, yesterday morning, in the sunshine ☀️

      Very large branch of evergreen tree broke off and fell into the garden landing on ground and fence panel. Will need help from six foot tall teenage grandsons to cut it up .
      A number of fence panels badly damaged and one right down. Spent yesterday and this morning making temporary cross supports to stop more damage to fence tonight.
      Looking forward to your next relaxing video. Paul

      Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that. I saw a large tree down at Neatishead yesterday . In a front garden and went across the road. Close to the little shop there. It was no longer blocking the road when I went past but the wheelie bins don’t look too great 🌳. They do so much damage when they fall. I hope you soon get it sorted.

      My dad used to have a couple of seagull outboard motors about 60 years ago. I can remember him servicing them in his shed. Still got the shed but no seagull outboard motors lol.
