There is so much overthinking in contemporary knitting. I had a break from knitting that lasted over 20 years, and I'm still stunned at how over complicated the modern RUclips community is. When I began knitting in the 70s, you just chose a garment pattern that you liked, and then you knitted it. Knitting for yourself or your loved ones is not a competition. Have faith new knitters, make mistakes, learn and enjoy your new skill.
I have no other knitting friends so connecting with knitters online is my only source. It’s been so impactful for me. I also got my yoga certification. I was in my 40’s and am now 50. I never taught but it helped me get through the loss of my mom 😊
@@sharmanklinefelter508 I feel the same way, I used to knit with my husbands aunt and all of her old ladies, lol, now she moved and I have no one to knit with, be nice to have a knitting buddy even if its only online
This is the first time I’m watching a video from you, and I really loved it. I like your style of speech, quiet, clear, without any unnecessary fuss or hesitation. It’s a real pleasure to hear you rambling (positively!) on knitting, with a touch of philosophy. Thanks so much.
Your voice and your overall presence are so calming, and your words are uplifting and resonate with my desire to surround myself with kind people. Thank you for connecting us!
I’ve been knitting on and off for 60 years. I am always surprised at how much I learn with every thing I knit! Fascinating!! Thank you for all of your sharing. I don’t hang out with other knitters, so I love hanging out with you! Thanks a bunch! Rosie
You are such an inspiration in your use of color, design and textures in knitting, and then integrating it all into images of nature and life stories! Wonderful!
I’ve can go for months or sometimes years without knitting (e.g., I discovered I was able to sew my own wardrobe last year, thanks to RUclips, so that took up all my spare time for a while, and then discovered how much cross stitching has changed since I used to do it 20 years ago, so then…), and so I forget those knitting skills and terms that get taken for granted in patterns. It’s lovely that there are tutorials now, but you’re right, it can be intimidating or frustrating to not know what seems assumed. It’s encouraging and reassuring somehow, just to have someone make explicit that barrier, and articulate the steps to overcome it. Thank you so much for sharing your time and beautiful projects. (And I’m completely fine with not getting a response to every comment😊)
As usual your videos are such an absolute delight . Your demeanor. , style and content are such a refreshing welcome to other podcasts . I hope you continue to record and make everyone’s day a little better .
I had the same problem with the term “turn” in a pattern as you a few years ago. I have been knitting for 50 years and was clueless. I took my sweater to a yarn shop and found the help I needed. I frequently use RUclips for refresher info and new techniques. Great info, thanks Helle.
Hello, i do love your video’s, when i first looked at this one, i thought how lovely you looked in the pale pink, but then you stood up to show the rest of the sweater and i thought “wow” how lovely and how talented you are with your knitting, thank you for showing,i also love the background of your home where you sit,the all white colour scheme is so nice. Thanks. Pamela hall
I don’t know how to tell you that “you are an inspiration to knitters”. Now for me I have never been intimidated by other knitters and what they can do but as a learner that I will someday will be able to do. I have enjoyed this podcast so much and how you are kind with your words to others about we as knitters can achieve anything and we will learn as we go along. To never give up or in another words “reach for all those stars”. I find I have grown so much as a knitter in my retirement years because of more time. I’ve knitted my whole life but simple things such as pee-shoes has my Memere would call slippers or mittens for the kids. Children’s sweaters, hats, scarves but now that I’m able to find big women’s sizes, which I couldn’t find in earlier years, I’m beyond excited and can’t put down my needles. Don’t worry things don’t fly off my needles either and that’s fine. One more thing I fly with metal needles all the time and never have a problem and I hope that continues. You take good care of yourself and happy knitting!! Kathy from Massachusetts ❤❤❤
Kathy from Ma - I am also a Boston girl, - now in SC - if we were closer, could do knit meetings (wouldn’t that be fun) I love this site and Danish Musings, wonderful girl, such an inspiration and so, relaxing to watch -I also quilt and find many quilters knit also, we love our crafts- the only problem is balancing time for everything😊. Hubby (Swedish) and I did a wonderful trip to Sweden and Denmark - we loved the people and beautiful areas we visited - sadly I lost him 2 years ago., but wonderful memories.
Your podcast is one of the few that really gets me excited, that I wait until the kids are off to bed before I sit down to watch. I even put aside my "complex" knitting and picked up my socks WIP so I could do some mindless stockinette whilst watching. Love the length of this podcast too, so don't apologise for "rambling on" or that it was too long - I was hanging onto to every word....I await your next episode eagerly.
I am a 20+ year knitter of simple things. I do not have knitting friends and you have encouraged me to try a sweater. Now that we have more size inclusive patterns i believe I will just jump in and try it. This video gave me courage. I have a couple of socks to finish first. I loved all of your beautiful garments. I hope you will continue to share your knits on RUclips. May you have a wonderful week.
So much to think about. I started knitting in 2019 and have found the journey very interesting. My only knitting community is via the internet, mainly through RUclips. My intimidation doesn't come from patterns or new techniques, but from the yarns that seem everyone is using that I can't get. The main reason is the cost. Many of the beautiful patterns now days require, mohair, alpaca and cashmere, it many instances 3 strands held together. I live in Australia and even if I can get the yarns locally they have come from overseas and the cost is greater. For me it is often a cost of $250 to $300 or more for a sweaters quantity if I get a good one that doesn't itch and scratch. Not economical for me, especially if postage is applied. So I feel not connected because of that. I just dismiss many patterns. But I love what people create and I love new techniques, so thats what keeps me attached.
I can totally understand that. Use the yarns that are finacially and geographically available to you and ignore the must-use appearance of other yarns. Some of it is also due to what has been hyped, which then gains momentum, and your local yarns are no doubt just as good 🥰
You are not alone in this dilemma, I live in Canada, and more specifically in the province of Quebec, where I cannot even order yarn from a Canadian website because our province has instituted so many language laws, that no one wants to do business in Quebec. So I am limited to the yarns that are available at a Quebec yarn store. But I love knitting and always find a way to knit a pattern I like with whatever yarn I can find that will give the look I want :)
The trend is to knit with more than one yarn to achieve gauge and I am not following this one! I do track interesting (to me) yarns and their qualities when watching knitting podcasts. For these specific yarns that I like, I then look at knitters comments in Ravelry ‘Yarns’ before purchasing. Because getting gauge is generally an issue for me, I knit/block a gauge swatch and then choose a pattern to match my gauge; this has worked out well especially when trying to use my extensive stash. If the pattern calls for a finished gauge of, say, 21 st for 10 cm/4” I use DK weight and not 2 fingering or lace weight yarns. So …. buy yarn you love (and fits your budget) in the ‘finished gauge’ yarn weight for the garment you want to make.
Thank you, Hella, for "Showing up"! I really enjoyed your podcast. Now I have added more projects to my knitting queue! Wishing you a joyful week. Enjoy your knitting.
Hella I was so much looking forward to another video of yours! The CONNECTION has definitely been made, I have actually watched most of your videos (while knitting) and I feel there is an uncanny resemblance to my life. I am a knitter, a teacher of English, I do yoga, I am passionate about gardening, a nature lover... I could go on like this... I have an exactly identical cat! But when you mentioned Eckhart Tolle I literally had goosebumps! Even my son, who likes to sit beside me sometimes, glanced at your video and made a comment " Mom she is just like you!" Of course, I do realize it is pure coincidence but I just feel strangely connected as if I have known You forever ;) You are such a wonderful teacher, I love listening to your stories, musings, observations, and snippets of knowledge that I find really inspiring. At the same time, everything you say seems so familiar so similar to the voice in my head. I hope I do not sound like a crazy stalker ;) I just wanted to let you know how I feel and that you have an avid follower. "Bonne chance" with your Crocus sweater I think it is the most amazing knit you have inspired me to make 🌷
It is probably difficult to have so many "invisible* friends as you expose yourself with your life to be followed and observed and the viewers watch you in the comfort of their anonymus homes. I have always wondered how these relations work and has it ever seemed unfair or unbalanced for you?
This was an amazing episode. Therapy for your everyday knitter. You are talking about things I think and feel. I always wondered what these prolific knitters do other than knit🤔 You are so encouraging to the beginning knitter and how to take it slow and one project at a time. Very sound advice. It helps that you have a soft comforting voice. Thank you for a knitting voice of reason.
My 19yo daughter, whom I just taught to knit, and I really love watching you. You are so elegant, and well spoken. Softly spoken , you are a joy to watch. Thank you .
The missing sock issue seems to be one of life’s unsolvable mysteries… I keep a bag with what I call ‘lonely’ socks. Some of their twins I haven’t seen for years, but I somehow hope they will return from whatever alternative dimension they accidentally ended up in.
I just love your aesthetic….very classy, elegant and modern at the same time. I also love your thoughtfulness and insights. I look forward to seeing your next video.
Wow! The Saranga sweater blocked out beautifully! Your videos are so cozy and aptly named… a nice mental break from the usual. It’s fun to talk about knitting and muse about other subjects at the same time. Thank you for not shying away from philosophical thoughts and questions. Time spent engaging with you is time well spent, so a longer chat is always welcome. 😊 Okay… and I’ve now finished the video. That pep talk! Thank you so much. Exactly what I needed. I’ve been thinking I needed to get to the point where I could knit sweaters, and I’ve been knitting for a while, but have been afraid to commit to a sweater….. but recently, I have slowly come to realization, including with the help of this podcast, that I can totally knit a sweater. 😊🧶💚 Can’t wait to hear about your warm weather knitting plans!
Thank you for encouraging us beginners. The end of May is my 2 year anniversary of learning to knit. I'd say I'm a courageous beginner or maybe a beginning intermediate. I like that you shared how you watch videos over and over and over again just to learn something new. Me too.
Another great video Helle, thank you! And thanks for cheering on all us intimidated knitters. I remember reading a sweater pattern for the first time and it said "pick up stitches for the sleeve" Huh? Where and how? I guess that's where we need to get resourceful and find our own way and not be afraid to ask for help as you mentioned. You must have been a very good teacher because your explanations and thoughtfulness come through on your videos. Looking forward to the next one! And that light pink sweater is just dreamy😍
Your comment about process and product that gave me pause to think about the projects I have on the needles and to slow down and engage with the process more mindfully which increased the enjoyment. Thank you, so grateful for the thoughtful content.
Hi Helle, thanks for keeping me company while I sew together my crochet afghan and cook dinner. Your words of encouragement really resonated with me. I'm only 2 years into my knitting journey and 40 plus for crocheting. I really have narrowed down my podcasts of both because of the apparent bias some makers have against beginners and those who may not have large budgets for expensive yarns. I learned knitting on RUclips and I guess I'm getting more intentional in my viewing. For some unknown reason, I really wanted to knit socks and was so happy to find EarthTones Girl, Denise, to guide me. I think I've knitted at least 15 pairs and experiment with new techniques on each pair. I even love two-at-a-time. Slowly, I'll branch out to sweaters as I knitted 1 that worked out very well even though I did a major substitution - cotton for wool. Now I'm teaching a kids crochet class and having a great time passing on a skill my grandmother gave to me. The kids are wanting perfection on day 1 however I discuss practicing with dishclothes and scarfs and, most importantly, frogging a project if you make a big mistake. Some really like the challenge of new skills while others enjoy the rhythm of the hook. We play off their strengths to keep them engaged. Crochet flies off my hook .... knitting is when I need to slow down. Many thanks for sharing more of your NYC experiences. I am excited to see what you will make with your new yarns.
What a lovely treat to spend some time hearing your encouraging and true words about the value of challenging ourselves with new knitting skills. I am ancient and have knitted, at intervals, almost all my life. Yet there are always more things to learn if I don’t knit only things I’m comfortable doing--again and again. After viewing this I’m on the hunt for a pattern with lots of small cables. Your sweaters are lovely. Thumbs up to you and all the designers whose patterns you have used. I always enjoy your musings and feel I’m not just connecting with you but to all the others who are enjoying too. Good work.
I, too, love cables. Also, your comments about stitch markers disappearing made me laugh because I use a lot of them and then my husband finds them under pillows and cushions and couches and tables! 21:21
Since I retired, I have found the knitting podcast community. I count this podcast as SO informative and relaxing. I love that you are all about sharing your knitting journey. It is wonderful that you pointed out the "jog" in your sleeves of the beautiful sweater - I would count that as a design element. I am knitting the Trellis Top by Carol Feller. After frogging 3 inches I went to Ravelry and found what others said about it....there was a lot of information and I am happy to say that I was up to the challenge to get it right and it is fine now - have knit past the point where I frogged it. We are lucky to have a network of information (and Carol's tutorials). It does help to take the initiative....I will never be bored with knitting or the information that exists to explain the commitment of the wool producers all around the world. Yarn is the icing on the cake - the real, very difficult work begins with the sheep (and plants). Thank you so much for everything in this podcast...we have never met but I feel like you are a new friend. 🧶
I truly appreciate your stating that things don’t fly off your needles. I am a slow knitter and have struggled with how slow a knitter I am compared to other knitters and I often felt like I must be a bad knitter. I no longer feel like that because as you said “I do me” and don’t worry about what others are doing. You do beautiful work and such intricate designs. Thank you for a wonderful podcast. You inspire me.
Helle thankyou for all your podcasts so happy to have found you too many adjectives to compliment you I just love how you are and feel very inspired . I feel very peaceful watching you as you have a lovely quiet manner again many thanks for giving your time it is so appreciated
Wow what a lovely episode. Thank you Helle. Loved your comments on beginning and embracing mistakes as part of the process of mastering a new skill. I have been musing too recently and have begun to realise how much I have lived with the tyranny of perfection and am now working on allowing the concept of “good enough” and not being too precious about finished objects. Your new sweater is beautiful and I have found inspiration for some very old Aran weight yarn. I have found an Isager mohair I can pair with it to make the chunky sweater. Loved that you reflected on “You do you” and also about kindness. Such a simple thing but so important. Take care and hope to see you again soon but appreciate that these episodes take time both in the making, knitting and reflections which I really appreciate. Hope your weather is improving. Starting to see the vines in leaf again here is south west France so Spring is definitely here.
Thanks for this lovely comment. Yes, I so agree with the tyranny of perfection etc. I think Margaret Atwood said the same about ‘settling’ for good enough, otherwise she’d never write a book 😘❤️
Really enjoy both your musings and your knitting! I am an avid knitter with a huge library in my house, and have been writing down your book recommendations, I will add Howard's End. The quote you shared resonated with me, so I join the conversation by commenting. Thank you for your content, it is well appreciated. I do love your Spot sweater, in another of your videos. It's just so beautiful, the colour transitions are perfect. Greetings from smoky Canada (94 wildfires burning in my province, sadly), please keep the videos coming, we're out here enjoying your visits with us! ❤
Your knitting is beautiful and your podcast is so very thoughtful. The podcast Mel Makes Stuff had an episode about reading Japanese knitting patterns that may be helpful. She's incredibly analytical and detailed in her approach to knitting. And she's fearless. The online community helpfulness is a gift. Thank you for taking the time to share.
Oh I love your musings, it’s like having a cup of tea with an interesting friend 🥰 and then there’s your knitting 😌🤩 I’ll always jump, if it’s something that interests me I can only gain from the experience. Plan for the worst, hope for the best and jump, it’s all an adventure. Thanks for the joy 😘
First off: your comprehension and use of such expressive adjectives and descriptors, metaphors and insight is fantastic. You bring up a great concept though, that I’ve discussed at length in several of my beginning knitting classes. Many teachers that are considered “master knitters”-learned in a particular way from wherever they are from-and have assumed that your knowledge of how to do a particular instruction is a “standard”: I recall specifically a discussion about “Slip-Slip-Knit”-& how you slip the stitches (knitwise, purlwise, combination, etc)-& the fact that now-especially with knitters learning a basis of their skills on RUclips-there is exposure to SO many styles and locations around the world that may “traditionally” do things Completely different!! Instructions of how to complete a term-for That pattern-makes it clear and universal for repeatable results. Thanks for bringing up the concept and furthering the conversation. Critical. This one “class” made me feel stupid and like i knew nothing-& really, I just didn’t know That teacher’s exposed way of completing this supposedly universal term. “Universal” is getting blurred by the amount of countries with different heritages of knitting putting out their ways. And ALL of it is possible and perfectly fine, has different results, and is preferable depending on the outcome desired.
Your videos are very encouraging, relaxing and informative. Your sweaters are beautiful in this one too. I have listened to 3 today off and on. Thank you so much
I recently found this channel and tonight when I sat down to knit I watched a couple of random episodes. I just felt I had to comment on this old episode and say thank you for the words of encouragement and knitting wisdom. Helle, your channel is the definition for the Danish word hygge. ❤
I love Amy Palko on You Tube, because she inspires and has fun and she makes interesting choices for yarns and patterns and talks about her process and she is the reason why I now rip back and make my knits correct. It is cathartic and no longer fearful or groan about it. I learn from it and enjoy doing it correctly. I feel you are much the same. I knit my first sweater, and it turned out nice! I love how you encourage to expand your horizons. Learn a new technique and play. You will grow and learn and move on to the next new thing. Mistakes are how we learn. Do it. Try it. Learn.
Kim and Jonna podcast recommended you and your channel, and I am grateful for finding you. I surround myself with great podcasters, with great teachers, encouraging people and you are all of those. Keep the knitting coming.
SO excited !!!! I just ordered yarn from Denmark, can't wait to see how it feels in reality. thank you for suggesting more yarn brands and patterns, as I always search for another project,
I so much enjoyed watching your New York episodes the other night. I spent a week there once with my teenage son and it is so fun to see a place like that with younger eyes and perspective. I was quite excited to see your “musing” episode pop up today. I am always quite inspired by your classic knits. I love the neutrals that you knit and wonder why I am not knitting more neutrals. Perhaps it is because where I live, in Alaska, we have a lot of neutral colors out of our windows for much of the year. I loved seeing glimpses of your yard with grass and flowers and hearing birds singing. Alas, as I look out my window I see SNOW falling. We are having a very late and cold spring! Thank you for your musings for the beginner knitters….as what you said is relevant for anyone learning anything new. Curiosity and not fear is certainly key. Currently I am finishing a second Lento holding three strands, one in alpaca, one in mohair silk and a lace weight silk with variegation. I am looking forward to getting it done. I am also knitting on the Subtle LInes cardigan in Linen Quill and loving that project. Even though I ripped back hours of knitting to get the fit better. Thank you again for sharing your projects and your thoughts
Shirley from England here.. I’ve just discovered you ❤ happy days ❣️I’ve passed on your video to my ladies in my Knit&Natter group.. you are sooo much on my wavelength about speed knitting and being brave about trying to knit sweaters and not worrying about mistakes etc. I’ve sent it to give them inspiration to continue.. xxx
I have just discovered your podcast and love it! Thank you so much for your thoughts and teachings......the way you articulate things is just so spot on and so good. This video came to me just at the right time......I have been so overwhelmed with all the projects and things going on in the knitting world that I started to loose my creative wantings and you helped me put things in perspective. I am a very tight knitter; fairly new but more than a beginner, and i have struggled with the two sweaters that I have attempted. So 2024 is going to be different for me and I will persevere so thank you and thank you for caring! and Thank you for the videos of your travels - they are amazing.
I just feel I need to say more. I understood every word you said; the advice you gave was so good; explaining different aspects of knitting techniques was so clear.. I will be watching all your past videos.
Outstanding episode. Insight is so encouraging.I have been knitting seventy years and still learn and challenge myself. UTube is invaluable. Thank you for being you
I respect your philosophy so much. Do you have common sense yet you encourage growth and adventure in knitting. Thank you for your wise words and encouragement.
Thank you for another thoughtful and helpful video. Your sweaters are simply gorgeous. I really appreciate your comments on being a beginner knitter and proceeding from there, however fast or slow. I think knitting can be a simple habit (😂) or a complicated one. Using the resources we have access to can help us decide the different avenues we travel on our knitting journey. I sometimes feel overwhelmed with the possibilities but also enjoy the variety. Your yarn purchases are beautiful. I look forward to what you’ll create.
Thank you for your thoughtful words for us who are often intimidated by patterns. I did finally knit a simple sweater for a grandson for my first sweater. After that I have deliberately pushed myself and my second sweater is Waystone Cardigan by Maddymoe. Simply put I am loving this project, I have learned much and am very excited to finish and start the next one. Love your podcast, thank you for sharing all your beautiful knitting.
I have recently discovered your videos and am working my way back through all your podcasts. I love all the pieces you’ve knit…..gorgeous knitting…….and you have introduced me to some new designers and yarns. So much inspiration. Thank you for that…..for some reason I’m not able to comment on all your videos…so I thought I’d just pop in to let your know I have become a faithful viewer and can’t wait to see what you’re knitting next!❤
💛🧡❤️🩷🤍🩵💙💚Hi & THANK YOU ❣️I just love your videos, your gentle voice is my best "music" now ... not mentioning your knitted items - coulourchoices ... "oh maij "!pure GOLD in my life! ❤❤❤❤ Dont EVER stop charing! Lots of love from Stockholm archipelago where I live 🤍🩵💙🌊💦☀️
I enjoyed this “yarn-chat” SO much…I think you overall have such a unique voice in this big, wonderful knitting community. Your work speaks for itself, it is just so amazingly beautiful, but you also are very humble and embrace the learning process, and encourage us all to do the same! I had to laugh…things don’t fly off my needles either! But over the years, I have made many things I love, and I’m still learning that it really is a lovely process…not necessarily how quickly things get done. Thank you….Can’t wait to see you again when you do your springy knits update!
Thank you for your words of inspiration and connection❤ Many of us do not have other friends to knit with as is mentioned in other comments below, so this gives us a wonderful way to share our love of knitting with one another.
I think we have a bit in common! I too took a 30 year break from knitting/crocheting. I too got rid of the sweaters I made 😢. I now wish I had kept them and frogged the yarn! I got Back into crocheting afghans just before the pandemic and made over 30 for my son's grade 12 classmates graduations gifts. Now I have gone back to knitting garmets for myself and knit 6 sweaters/tops this past winter. The first one I frogged twice. I have a beautiful cable sweater on my needles right now and am anxiously waiting for the yarn I ordered from knit collage to make the Corrine Cardi. Funny how u mentioned then in your last podcast😂. I love your style and watching your pocasts to see what u r up to. Keep up the great work!
So encouraging to listen to your discussion of sweaters. I am definitely an advanced beginner knitter and trying a sweater has been on my list forever. I think I’ll try a sweater this year!
Just wanted to add that these boxy sweaters are the Best…the lace one you are wearing is sooooo cool.🌞 I live on the coast of SC in the USA so, I couldn’t wear them even if I could make them❣️🌺
Helle, your podcast and insights are so wonderful. Each episode is such a treat to watch. The encouragement you offer and the frankness with which you speak is lovely. Thank you so much for taking the time to create these videos.
Hahaha, it's funny what you say about losing socks. I have the exact same feeling, that my washing machine swallows socks, because some socks seem to never make it back. 😂
Enjoyed your video. Knitting is not just a creative work but it's also about your life's journey, experiences, inward thinking, a joyful experience, sometimes with a sigh here and there. Thank you.
Your personality, your videos, your ideas are so fascinating. I wish i had your knitting skill, but i so love watching what you've made, the wool chosen, and the commentary on the patterns. I dont have a group of knitters, here, i feel, there's a place where we can all gather and learn. Thank you for your wisdom and humour.
How lovely for the lady to get you in to the Empire State Building and then gift you those beautiful things. A pattern for that cowl, would be nice. Loved the yarn store and that hot pink yarn is gorgeous. Love the variegated yarn, too... so pretty. love, hugs, prayers
Yes it was so lovely of her - she wrote to tell me that she more or less made that pattern herself based on a picture. I can see if I can add it as a note under the next video (?)
I love watching all videos that you post. I love your musings about life. Your command of English makes for a stimulating watch. You speak so succinctly and precisely. Whatever you send our way is much appreciated. I have been working on accessories long enough, time to knit larger pieces! I plan to knit the Churchmouse Yarns and Teas "Quadrangle Wrap" in the fall. Pattern looks simple but CYT patterns always challenge me. Oh, and I was/am a teacher too, living in Alberta Canada.
Only connect 🤍 I love this quote and the sentiment you brought to this video. I also love how you connect your love for literature with your love for knitting, and travel, and for connecting with people. Thank you Helle, I find that your videos are little gems, and I so enjoy listening to you - you have wisdom that transpires from what you say and how you say it. I got some bad news today, and knitting a bit in your company has really been helpful - even if I spent a good chunk of time undoing some knitting as I misread some directions!! I've just begun the Shore Tee by Anne Ventzel in some Isager yarn - so a very Danish knitting experience 😊. Warm greetings from an Italian in Scotland.
Beautiful and inspiring podcast! I didn’t know I needed an oversized chunky sweater but apparently I do now!:) Couldn’t agree more with your views. Knitting is an art form so we should all benefit in doing just that, knitting more of whatever we like! Your work is amazing and thank you for everything! 💓
So glad I found you a little while ago. My friend here in Nova Scotia is also watching even if she is not Danish. Being Danish your podcasts make my feel so at home!
This was nice to hear. I can’t deal with chart only patterns. My brain doesn’t deal with that. We pay a lot for patterns. There’s always something new to learn. Also chuck in left handed and it can become interesting.
Hello from Southern California, I just found your channel, and your videos are so peaceful, I got to visit your country and I still remember how beautiful your country is. I knit alone at home and I feel like I found a knitting community because of your videos, Thank you!
Thank you for another enjoyable and thought provoking video. I especially support your suggestions to new knitters. I am a slow knitter also and I have come to terms with it. I even taught myself Norwegian style from videos (Arne & Carlos purl) but it really made no difference in gauge nor speed. One thing I have come to accept is tinking back/ frogging my knitting to achieve what I will be happy with. I now look at it that I get to knit more! One of my goals in knitting is to knit a project with zero tinking or “do over.” A lofty goal for me, but if I never attain it, no worries, I just get to knit more! 😁
Yes I was the same as you but my break about 26years. I agree with your assessment! I believe people have way too much time on their hands.
You are perhaps my favorite podcast knitter. Your voice is beautiful and your intelligent musings are calming.
That is very generous of you, thank you 🩷
I have no other knitting friends so connecting with knitters online is my only source. It’s been so impactful for me. I also got my yoga certification. I was in my 40’s and am now 50. I never taught but it helped me get through the loss of my mom 😊
Omg !!! Snap !!! My story is exactly the same as yours!.... I can't believe it !! We're twins ❣️
Iam 43 also yoga teacher😊. Girl there are more of us here kisses from Ireland
Same here, Hi from San Diego
i have the same issue no knitting ftiends my mom was my knitting friend but she passed away had a knit shop but it closed
@@sharmanklinefelter508 I feel the same way, I used to knit with my husbands aunt and all of her old ladies, lol, now she moved and I have no one to knit with, be nice to have a knitting buddy even if its only online
Your knitting is elegant as are you and your channel. I like that you raise us up as knitters and leave us with encouragement.
I’m so glad you feel raised up - thanks for taking the time to write it 🩷 (and the rest 😌)
Perfectly stated.
This is the first time I’m watching a video from you, and I really loved it. I like your style of speech, quiet, clear, without any unnecessary fuss or hesitation. It’s a real pleasure to hear you rambling (positively!) on knitting, with a touch of philosophy. Thanks so much.
Oh, that’s so lovely of you to say - I appreciate it 💞😌 Happy knitting.
Your voice and your overall presence are so calming, and your words are uplifting and resonate with my desire to surround myself with kind people. Thank you for connecting us!
Aw that’s lovely to hear, thank you 💕
I’ve been knitting on and off for 60 years. I am always surprised at how much I learn with every thing I knit! Fascinating!! Thank you for all of your sharing. I don’t hang out with other knitters, so I love hanging out with you! Thanks a bunch! Rosie
Thanks for hanging out with me, Rosie 💕🍁😊
You are such an inspiration in your use of color, design and textures in knitting, and then integrating it all into images of nature and life stories! Wonderful!
Lo, sock loss and missing stitch markers are universal! There has to be a, "Narnia door," in my house!
I’m so glad I stumbled across this video. As a beginner knitter of 8 months, your inspiring words were so helpful! Thank you 😊
I’ve can go for months or sometimes years without knitting (e.g., I discovered I was able to sew my own wardrobe last year, thanks to RUclips, so that took up all my spare time for a while, and then discovered how much cross stitching has changed since I used to do it 20 years ago, so then…), and so I forget those knitting skills and terms that get taken for granted in patterns.
Oh (gulp), thanks so much for your lovely comment 😘❤️
Thanks. Pamela hall
😘🌸🤍
Thanks for this, Kathy, and happy knitting to you too 🥰😘
Kathy from Ma - I am also a Boston girl, - now in SC - if we were closer, could do knit meetings (wouldn’t that be fun) I love this site and Danish Musings, wonderful girl, such an inspiration and so, relaxing to watch -I also quilt and find many quilters knit also, we love our crafts- the only problem is balancing time for everything😊. Hubby (Swedish) and I did a wonderful trip to Sweden and Denmark - we loved the people and beautiful areas we visited - sadly I lost him 2 years ago., but wonderful memories.
Virginia, so very very sorry for your loss🥰 I hope your days are filled with love, laughter, and yarn!!!!
Oh, that is so lovely of you to say and very encouraging - thank you 😘❤️
I am a 20+ year knitter of simple things.
Oh that sounds just wonderful, so glad to hear it 😍 Wishing you a great week, too 🌷
So much to think about.
@@bessiesiamas1225 Thank you for your reply, it's interesting to hear how others fair with this
The trend is to knit with more than one yarn to achieve gauge and I am not following this one!
Your garden and the inside of your home look so so lovely!
Even my son, who likes to sit beside me sometimes, glanced at your video and made a comment " Mom she is just like you!"
Of course, I do realize it is pure coincidence but I just feel strangely connected as if I have known You forever ;) You are such a wonderful teacher, I love listening to your stories, musings, observations, and snippets of knowledge that I find really inspiring. At the same time, everything you say seems so familiar so similar to the voice in my head. I hope I do not sound like a crazy stalker ;) I just wanted to let you know how I feel and that you have an avid follower. "Bonne chance" with your Crocus sweater I think it is the most amazing knit you have inspired me to make 🌷
You do not at all sound like a crazy stalker 😅 but a lovely, like-minded friend 🥰 Thanks so much for your words ❤️
It is probably difficult to have so many "invisible* friends as you expose yourself with your life to be followed and observed and the viewers watch you in the comfort of their anonymus homes. I have always wondered how these relations work and has it ever seemed unfair or unbalanced for you?
@@agnieszkastruczyk9178 It’s all so new yet so I can’t tell yet. But I hope it’s all good 🥰
Thank you for being an encourager. Your knitting is beautiful!
Absolutely elegant, thank you for sharing!
Yes, yes, just like you, I like each new project to have a new skill for me to learn.
Very inspiring, Helle! Thank you very much for the encouraging words ❤ beginner knitter here ✋🏻😊
This was an amazing episode.
Thank you .
Thanks so much - love to you and your daughter 🙏🏻😘❤️
Love Howard’s End! I truly enjoyed your episode today and so happy to have found your channel. Beautiful knitting!
The missing sock issue seems to be one of life’s unsolvable mysteries… I keep a bag with what I call ‘lonely’ socks. Some of their twins I haven’t seen for years, but I somehow hope they will return from whatever alternative dimension they accidentally ended up in.
Perhaps the “missing” socks will all be found one day together… perhaps with all the “missing” elephants in their mythical graveyard 🪦 🧦 🐘 😁xxx
I just love your aesthetic….very classy, elegant and modern at the same time. I also love your thoughtfulness and insights. I look forward to seeing your next video.
Hello! I’m a newer knitter and thoroughly enjoy all of your podcasts! ❤ Thank you for the encouragement! 🎉
Okay… and I’ve now finished the video. 😊🧶💚
Can’t wait to hear about your warm weather knitting plans!
Oh excellent!! Go for it!
Those plans are already in the making 🙈😍
Haha, that’s another good example. Thank you for your kind words 🥰
Excellent thought/quote - “to cultivate curiosity rather than fear”.
🥰❤️
Your comment about process and product that gave me pause to think about the projects I have on the needles and to slow down and engage with the process more mindfully which increased the enjoyment. Thank you, so grateful for the thoughtful content.
🙏🏻😘💙
I enjoy your videos since you are a knitter and also a traveler! Your voice has a calming influence and is so refreshing in todays screaming world.
Aw thanks so much 🙏🏻❤️
Hi Helle, thanks for keeping me company while I sew together my crochet afghan and cook dinner.
The bright pink will actually be fabulous I have a friend who's sort of got the same coloring as you and she looks great in that color.
Good work.
Such a lovely comment, thank you 💞
I, too, love cables.
That’s so good ton hear - thank you 😘❤️
Awesome podcast, thank you! Love your style, your knitting is so inspiring, thank you.
Thank you for another lovely podcast.I so appreciate your words of wisdom .
I love your calmness and connecting with other knitters is so important one never feels alone since I do not have knitting friends around me 😊
Helle thankyou for all your podcasts so happy to have found you too many adjectives to compliment you I just love how you are and feel very inspired . I feel very peaceful watching you as you have a lovely quiet manner again many thanks for giving your time it is so appreciated
🙏🏻🥰🩷
🙏🏻💙😽
Your knitting is beautiful and your podcast is so very thoughtful. The podcast Mel Makes Stuff had an episode about reading Japanese knitting patterns that may be helpful. She's incredibly analytical and detailed in her approach to knitting. And she's fearless. The online community helpfulness is a gift. Thank you for taking the time to share.
Thank you for your words and for this rec 🥰
Couldn’t agree more. Thank you 🥰
Your videos are very encouraging, relaxing and informative. Your sweaters are beautiful in this one too. I have listened to 3 today off and on. Thank you so much
Thanks so much for watching and commenting 🥰🙏🏻😽
I recently found this channel and tonight when I sat down to knit I watched a couple of random episodes. I just felt I had to comment on this old episode and say thank you for the words of encouragement and knitting wisdom. Helle, your channel is the definition for the Danish word hygge. ❤
Aw thank you so much 😘🤍
I love Amy Palko on You Tube, because she inspires and has fun and she makes interesting choices for yarns and patterns and talks about her process and she is the reason why I now rip back and make my knits correct. Do it. Try it. Learn.
OMg! Your wisdom on knitting for beginners is awesome. Thank you. We do need some more explanation sometimes and all of us were beginners!😍
Now a subscriber! Knitting for 48 yrs and often buy one skein as just must have a little of everything! Very interesting listening to you.
Kim and Jonna podcast recommended you and your channel, and I am grateful for finding you. I surround myself with great podcasters, with great teachers, encouraging people and you are all of those. Keep the knitting coming.
🙏🏻❤️🥰
Hi Helle: Thank you again for your conversations, inspiration, insights, and knowledge. Your channel is among my favorite things.
Aw, that means a lot. Thank you 💕😘
SO excited !!!! I just ordered yarn from Denmark, can't wait to see how it feels in reality.
thank you for suggesting more yarn brands and patterns, as I always search for another project,
Oh My! Your Sarang Sweater is Just Divine the Colour on You is Beautiful 💗
😌🙏🏻🌸
I truly enjoy what you present. I have felt compelled to listen and come back for the honest thoughtful sharing. Thank you 🙏🏻
💙🙏🏻🤍
I’ve sent it to give them inspiration to continue.. xxx
Aw thanks so much, Shirley! Much love to you and ‘your’ ladies 🥰
I do so enjoy your musings . I always find myself thinking of your podcast for days after viewing, thank you for your time, I do feel connected!
Oh thanks so much 😘
I have just discovered your podcast and love it!
🙏🏻🥰❤️
Outstanding episode. Insight is so encouraging.I have been knitting seventy years and still learn and challenge myself. UTube is invaluable. Thank you for being you
I love what you said about not being judgmental … you strike me as a kind and so thoughtful person and I love that. Love your sweaters. 💖
I respect your philosophy so much. Do you have common sense yet you encourage growth and adventure in knitting. Thank you for your wise words and encouragement.
Thanks so much 🥰
Thank you for another thoughtful and helpful video.
🙏🏻😽❤️
I have recently discovered your videos and am working my way back through all your podcasts. I love all the pieces you’ve knit…..gorgeous knitting…….and you have introduced me to some new designers and yarns. So much inspiration. Thank you for that…..for some reason I’m not able to comment on all your videos…so I thought I’d just pop in to let your know I have become a faithful viewer and can’t wait to see what you’re knitting next!❤
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment and for watching 🙏🏻🥰💙
💛🧡❤️🩷🤍🩵💙💚Hi & THANK YOU ❣️I just love your videos, your gentle voice is my best "music" now ... not mentioning your knitted items - coulourchoices ... "oh maij "!pure GOLD in my life! ❤❤❤❤ Dont EVER stop charing! Lots of love from Stockholm archipelago where I live 🤍🩵💙🌊💦☀️
Thank you Helle, another delightful hour spent in your company. Happy knitting.
Thank you very much for your lovely and calm video's! I'm so glad that i found your RUclips channel! Lovely Greetings from Hungary ❤❤❤
So lovely to connect with you in Hungary 🥰🌸
I enjoyed this “yarn-chat” SO much…I think you overall have such a unique voice in this big, wonderful knitting community. Your work speaks for itself, it is just so amazingly beautiful, but you also are very humble and embrace the learning process, and encourage us all to do the same! I had to laugh…things don’t fly off my needles either! But over the years, I have made many things I love, and I’m still learning that it really is a lovely process…not necessarily how quickly things get done. Thank you….Can’t wait to see you again when you do your springy knits update!
Thanks so much 🙏🏻😘❤️
Thank you for your words of inspiration and connection❤ Many of us do not have other friends to knit with as is mentioned in other comments below, so this gives us a wonderful way to share our love of knitting with one another.
Just wanted to add that these boxy sweaters are the Best…the lace one you are wearing is sooooo cool.🌞 I live on the coast of SC in the USA so, I couldn’t wear them even if I could make them❣️🌺
Love watching and look forward to seeing your beautiful knits!
Helle, your podcast and insights are so wonderful. Each episode is such a treat to watch. The encouragement you offer and the frankness with which you speak is lovely. Thank you so much for taking the time to create these videos.
🙏🏻🥰❤️
Hahaha, it's funny what you say about losing socks. I have the exact same feeling, that my washing machine swallows socks, because some socks seem to never make it back. 😂
I really enjoy your content. Your words and knitting have inspired me. Thank you!
Thanks so much 🩷
How lovely for the lady to get you in to the Empire State Building and then gift you those beautiful things.
I love your yarn choices and the color combos that you choose- so beautiful!
Aww, you are so nice to us . Thank you.
Thank you so much for this. You have given me confidence to knit a jumper again. 🙋🏼♀️🇦🇺
Sounds marvellous - go for it❣️😍
I love watching all videos that you post.
Thanks so much for this and for sharing 🩷
I loved this whole podcast so much ❤
Only connect 🤍 I love this quote and the sentiment you brought to this video.
Sorry to hear that, and so glad to know you get a bit of solace here. Thanks for your lovely comment 😘❤️
Beautiful and inspiring podcast! I didn’t know I needed an oversized chunky sweater but apparently I do now!:)
Couldn’t agree more with your views. Knitting is an art form so we should all benefit in doing just that, knitting more of whatever we like! Your work is amazing and thank you for everything! 💓
Haha I love your comment in so many ways 🥰
So glad I found you a little while ago. My friend here in Nova Scotia is also watching even if she is not Danish. Being Danish your podcasts make my feel so at home!
🙏🏻🥰🇩🇰❤️
This was nice to hear. I can’t deal with chart only patterns. My brain doesn’t deal with that. We pay a lot for patterns. There’s always something new to learn. Also chuck in left handed and it can become interesting.
Hello from Southern California, I just found your channel, and your videos are so peaceful, I got to visit your country and I still remember how beautiful your country is. I knit alone at home and I feel like I found a knitting community because of your videos, Thank you!
Oh, that is lovely to hear, thank you 💕
Thank you for another enjoyable and thought provoking video. 😁
👌🥰❤️
LOVELY yarn haul!!! :) LOVE your channel and all your beautiful knits!!
🙏🏻😽❤️
