Finally they made the correct horn shape, the right headstock, the binding, and the pickups surely are the most important thing...seems a great Les Paul at a good price👍👍👍seriously thinking to get the honeyburst One😍🎸❤️
I haven't seen a "honey burst" in this new version yet, the "iced tea" it my favorite of the three, similar to a honey burst with subtle shading.
@@pharmerdavid1432 I believe the honey burst is sold exclusively at Sweetwater.
I don't understand the complain about Laurel because if you just use some lemon oil and play it for a month the fretboard will become just as dark as Rosewood and I rather have real mother of pearl then acrylic inlays because it looks so much nicer
I didn’t know lemon oil would darken up a fretboard
@@Terrysoddy it works wonders and all it takes is really just a couple of coats and just letting it sit for a day. That's why I don't understand the aesthetic complaint over Laurel
The complaint comes from people who wanna spend more time talking about guitars on forums than they wanna spend practicing.
Glad they fixed the body binding so you can now see it face on unlike the previous 59 which looked like a studio
Its similar…
Haven't noticed on mine...maybe it was inconsistent or I never look at it from anything other than an angle😅
If i could spend $1299 right now, it would be the '59 ES355 for sure
What about the Larry Carlton Sire guitars @ approximately $650.? I just got one and it's an amazing guitar for the price!!!
You can find them on Reverb for $650 and maybe a little less.
I got this guitar!! Used your link even! It feels amazing and is decently light. Sounds super close to my Gibson R8 (home bedroom volume) EXCEPT the Gibson has a hotter output. I could raise the pickups on the epi to better match the Gibson probably. This guitar is truly great I highly recommend it! Definitely has a good amount of the "custom shop" feel. Epi has done many R9 models and this is the best yet I think!
Sound Sweet! Allman brothers vibes in the tone.
i already got the epi 59, but i want the new refreshed one in Ice tea. Also Laurel looks exactly like rosewood once its been fed some lemon/whatever fretboard oil you use, my 59's laurel is just as dark as my other guitar with a rosewood fretboard.
My God! That line of Les Paul's over your right shoulder😮😮🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Excellent video and demo. Nice playing. I love your spontaneity! I’m 70 and I play like you. I hope you received that as a compliment 😊. I’m not sure about the Custombuckers. I am an original owner of a ‘71 Gibson LP Custom. Years back I impulsively (enhanced by intoxication) purchased a 2005 Epiphone ‘56 LP Gold Top w/upgraded P90 pickups. And assorted other upgrades. Bottom line- this F’n guitar sounds and plays on par with my ‘71 Gibson. Different necks and pups, of course. I don’t know what brand the P90 “upgraded” pups are, irregardless, they sound amazing. So… I admit I’ve developed a bias with respect to Epiphone guitars made in and around 2007, at the Chinese Qing Dao factory.
I just picked up an Epiphone 59 lp . Its a 2003 Fuji-Gen. It is a fine instrument and plays great and sounds amazing through my Egnater rebel 20.
Love these demos
Interesting how they come about the different pricing in different countries, it's not just exchange but however it's done they are more expensive in other places.
These are beautiful and value packed but I'm holding out for a Slash Jessica les paul- inspired by Gibson of course 😅
Custombuckers don't cost Gibson any more money to produce than Burstbuckers do.Headstock costs the same to cut as the old headstock. Real 59s had acrylic inlays not MOP. So all in all Epiphone might have and extra $10 into this guitar for the inlays and they are charging $550 more than the original 59. 59s are on sale for $749 all of the time. Keep your marketing bs Gibson. I'll keep my 59 outfit thanks anyway.
That is a proper demo of the guitar. I love it, actually playing in all switch positions with dirty and clean. Awesome demo. Thank you.
Performance section licks where killer btw
I just got a second hand 2019 Gibson LP Classic for less than the price of this 59 Epiphone. This reflects even although Epiphone have upped their game with this guitar they’ve upped the price too . A brand new Classic is selling for £1800 in the U.K. and there may be a deal to be dine beyond that . The new Epiphone Firebird models look great too but they are even more expensive than the 59 Les Paul .
finding a used lp classic for under $1300 is an exception, not the norm, consider yourself lucky lol
Love that headstock, don't like a satin finish on the Epi! Getting pricy, but well equipped.
Damn, better spec'ed than even the Gibson USA Standards. 🔥
China
@@honnaconna7312The newer ones look a little dull and toyish. The older ones look worse though.
@@honnaconna7312 Boy will you be pissed when you find out what other things are made in China...
Yes, indeed, I never ever thought I would actually consider an Epiphone Les Paul, but now I do. I was so pleasntly surprised by the Epiphone Riviera Noel Gallagher that I now have more Epiphones on my wishlist.
@@honnaconna7312 sent from an iPhone
The cut away and body shape looks a lot more accurate too.
This guys plays this guitar like as if it’s a high-end Gibson. The Indian Laurel fretboard did not get in the way with his playing. He even commented that in terms of playability, this guitar earns a higher score than the Ebony-fretboard equipped LP Custom. Awesome!
I have been looking at the weights of various examples of this model and they were all considerably lighter than the model it replaces---some were under 8lb. Are they weight relieved? If not how do they do it?
$1200, no Rosewood fingerboard
AYFKM! 🙄
I think it's more like $1300, and that's a fair point. That said, I have the previous version which has Indian Laurel too, and that thing feels like Rosewood and Ebony had a baby - it's awesome, so I wouldn't sweat that choice here. It does give it an air of cheapness, but if it's anything like mine, you forget about the name of the wood pretty quickly because of how it feels.
Fender has being doing that for years tho
@@sverrekolman4841 Yup, and they smartened up and brought Rosewood back for the Vintera II's.
I don’t see the big deal about it. Mine has the Laurel and it feels great and plays great. I think people make a bigger deal about it than what it actually is, IMO as an owner of one.
@@bks252as an owner of both… rosewood is far superior in just the feel and looks. Laurel seems to look very dry.. even after applying an oil. Rosewoods just better…
I just got 59 used. I did a setup and it's playing well. The burstbucker 2 (8.04k) and 3 (8.5K) are hot but not as balanced as my epiphone flying V pro buckers 2 (7.8k) and 3 (8.5k) pickups. The Flying V is more blues and 59 is more Britsh blues rock.
I love the probuckers if you are seeking a more vintage tone they are the ones you need
Is this neck shape/ Profile different from the previously issued 1959 outfit?
i can make a Murphy lab sound like a Harley Benton
The Ice T 'burst looks nice
Man, seems like they are going in a coll direction. I am not a fan of that matte looking finish though, all else seems cool. That finish looks a bit cheap and weird to me. I understand that USA standards with nitro can be too shiny but i'd rather have the shine than this strange finish. Also, i came close to buying the R9 Ice tea burst from you guys! Thing looked killer. Ended up with a dirty lemon light aged murphy. Looks like a an old 59 - but not cheap!!
It looks legit!
Got the old 59. Would swap it for the new one if they had changed the finish from that weird satin veneer to something real.
This is what the 59 epiphpne should’ve been like for I think it was 899. I don’t need the case.
@musicequalslife they are not the same custombuckers as in the US models, look at the wiring and at this price , there's no excuse to use a Laurel board.
Do you already have other cases?? I'm asking cuz that's the best place to keep these when you're not playing them. To keep them anywhere else is just asking for it.
@@MrRidleyDogwhich different custom buckers are installed in epiphones?
@musicequalslife those pickups are overpriced by scummy Gibson Inc, they do not worth $500
@@alexacojo I swear you're a bot employed by a competitor. I refuse to believe that the Epi/Gibson community is so querulous.
I like these, but the colors/flame should be way better for the price hike. Looks an awful lot like the same old Dark Cherry and Dark Burst to me but that depends on the example. I like what they are doing, I just can't afford it😂
Good video guys
I prefer the Gibson T-type pickups myself.
I wasnt a fan of the matte finish. Just played one at guitat center earlier today and i must say, it looks much better in person. I didnt plug it in but just strummed a few chords and it had a almost straight neck and good action. The nut could've been slotted lower.
Honestly for the price I'd rather get a LTD James Hetfield Snakebyte in white finish.
What would it cost if they did a fully spec'd out version of a Les Paul Standard in the Epiphone factory? I mean just go all out. Nitro finish, real flame maple cap, rosewood board. Seems like they are headed there.
They'd never do that lol they'd be cannibalizing their own market
I've been wanting them to do nitro finishes on these Inspired by Gibson Custom versions for a while. That would be very nice.
@@adamstrachn Its coming friend just start saving another 400 bucks.
Give it some time, it will happen if these models keep selling so well.
Tone wood? Anybody? Tone wood? Someone, please!!!!?????
These are specs than the USA Standards now. So I'd think they should now be moving the specs of the USA models upwards soon.
And their prices again… 🤦♂
Not sure if I missed it, but what finish is this?
U can get a grassroots for 300 used and it has same headstock one piece neck correct wood and output jack will be in correct place
I bought a 59 last year: thanks Gibson, you figured out a way to piss me off again. But it's a slimmer neck, I like a baseball neck. I'll just keep the older 59.
Buy this one
They already got ya money
its only the headstock that you cant get, you could change the pickups in yours. Personally I dont see the point in the headstock change. For me at least it wont scratch that Gibson itch, an Epiphone is and Epiphone. I love mine but just changing the headstock shape wont change that. Id rather save the extra money and get a Gibson
@@Benjohns89 I like my headstock and the Burstbuckers, they can keep there newfangled guitar.
I'll never buy a Gibson again.
Love this guitar, just purchased the Epiphone Prophecy which is an amazing guitar
5:19 I Would like to know if the Custombacker are Alnico III, can you tell me that? Thnaks so much!
Yes, Custombuckers are Alnico III
@@engelsjn Thanks so much
Looking forward to seeing used ones on Reverb. Always happens.
So the old 59 Epiphone had a “50s” profile neck-which felt like a D shape. The new 59 has a 1959 rounded medium C profile. So I assume it’s going to be pretty comfortable.
Everything is Great almost purchase but no rosewood :(
Not that the guitar isn't a great LP value ,( I own a '66 Epi SG Pro), but that finish just bigs me! The 'semi-gloss' treatment just seems to obscure the wood, IMO. The grain would show up better, be more definited if it were satin finish- ( don't mean 'open-pore' here).
Bugs me, not bigs- I can't edit!
Eastman LP style guitars still have a nice thick neck.
Nice guitar for the $. They should sell a ton at that price, and Im betting guys and gals will buy these and not Chibsons. The headstock will sell them.
Love the new series besides the dull finish. Why not glossy?
its awful agreed
Why isn't there more attention on the new LP Custom with ebony fretboard? $1299.
Do we assume the frets have no issues if they're not mentioned in the video?
@user-ki2mv1cv1b no they are not unless you pay for a plek. They are epiphones normal fret wire.
Very nice 1959 Les Paul does it have a one piece neck?👍🏼
No
I'd buy that for a dollar 💵
me too....I played it it was just ok
I got it for 400$ I’m stoked I would not pay over 1000$ for it
I’d get a studio les Paul before I’d do that
A friend of mine bought a Gibson les Paul shipped from America £2200 and he preferred my old Epihone lp custom said he thought it was a better guitar than the Gibson versions lol?
$1200 is the new $500, sheesh. Now, if the Custom would come with Custombuckers.... So it's either this or the 335
The Epiphone Standard for $599 seems such a better value if you gotta take poly finish and a laurel board. At 1299 I’d save a bit more for a used Gibson or buy a lovely Studio.
The Standard is $699, they raised those prices too, but I agree with you. The 50's Standard has a long neck tenon, 50's wiring, and the same capacitors and CTS pots as the 59 outfit and a gloss finish which IMO looks a lot better. The Probuckers sound fine. People need to learn how to dial in a sound and stop buying into the pickup BS.
Nice gibaphone!
The indian laurel fretboard is as good as indian rosewood. Dont let anyone tell you different. I cant tell the difference tbh. Plus its more sustainable.
Faded i'd call it
The only real difference here the headstock shape and the pickup choice.... And of course a massive jump in price... This makes the previous model an incredible bargain... Many big name reviewers put the previous model right up there with the Gibson during blindfold tests... I am not knocking the new version but is it really worth the price difference.? .. The massive price hike will do wonders for the value hold of the previous model.
The studio that they’re charging people now for two grand they should be charging 1599 . And they should have maybe like Les Paul specials juniors at 12:99 and maybe like a tribute at 10:99 I think they would sell a lot more guitars.
They're not having a problem selling guitars .
No braided wire, no medalion, Burstbuckers are hotter and the older ones were cheaper. Essentially you're paying more for a headstock.
For that kinda money, you’d think they would wire the thing up a lot better and neater than they do
Would be a nice touch if they went the extra yard with the headstock and lost the Epiphone three screw truss rod cover for the Gibson two screw style. They got so close, why not?
Why not? They already threw the Epiphione brand under the bus by removing the iconic and distinctive headstock.
Also rosewood fretboard.
@@Kdschaakno they didnt. The open book is only for the inspired by gibson line
I would take rosewood over a 2 screw cover
Next year LOL
The arrow should point at the bridge (which is not in the correct position, just so it doesn't exactly sound like a real LP).
I bought the IBG Epiphone 59 les paul in 2021 still have it. polished off that VOS. looks 100% Better. The new one is nice but way over priced.
I would also polish the front
Made a difference
I pay 770€ for the 59 outfit, sorry but double price just for custombucker and Gibson head no thanks!
I’m so grateful I bought a normal USA Gibson before prices got utterly stupid. 1200 for a Chinese made guitar? No.
I don't understand why they wouldn't give this a rosewood board. I'd already have it ordered if they did.
Nice guitar I had one sold it for a DGT SE
These have only been out for a few days wdym you already sold one 💀
@@rbaehe probably means the last version they did
@@jmdyt3626 there was no last version with Gibson pickups, AAA top, and open book headstock with VOS specs though they're almost completely different
@@rbaethe last one was great but this one is perfect
Are the pickups potted?
No, custom buckers are not wax potted
Gives me a strong Jimmy Page vibe. Nice.
Caesar and the boys are tired of us mail ordering Tokais and Edwards copies from Japan for $1200
I was stupid enough to buy the first iteration of this guitar with the Kalamazoo headstock new and the value tanked by approx 30% within a year! I'm not doing that again, I'm going to wait a year for this guitar to come on the used market!
Unfortunately it’s more expensive on the used market lol
This Epi or a used Gibson Tribute - that is the question for me.
If it can help my Greeny blows my Tribute away !
@@markwilliamsmusic2987mine too! For all the complaints about the price, the Epiphone Greeny is a fantastic guitar. I didn’t like my Les Paul tribute at all and quickly traded it

Where are these made? Japan?…
los angelos custom shop lmaoooooo
Why it's still matte and without binding? Why they sell us a tribute or studio with a crazy price?
It sounds just like my 1992 Korean Epi with GFS '59 pickups. Not worth the asking price of $1299
For over a grand they can at least put a maple top on instead of the veneer.
Something about that headstock looks a tiny bit off for some reason.
Been thinking the same.
Is it the angle? Epiphone traditionally has less of an angle on the LP headstock.
@@antoniomontoya5298 That’s correct. Epi has the better angle, in terms of less break-ability on their LPs. But there are different variations of the moustache headstock. That’s what I’ve noticed.
Why don’t they fix those massive pickup rings? I would never be able to cope with that.

They could've just used 57 classic pickups and knocked the price down to the $700-$900 range depending on how much they wanted to overcharge for a different headstock shape. Why would you drop $500 pickups in an Epiphone?
Because you want a guitar that sounds great. It’s not rocket science.
@@doug1274 57 classic are great pickups
I just bought a used 2012 GIBSON Les Paul traditional for Les than this thing. Has 57 classics, a real flame top thats super rad and I’m sure it smokes this thing playability. Epiphone is weird lol
The Base model LP standard is $699, the previous IbG '59 is $999. There's no way they could have gotten it that cheap, even with '57 classics...
edit: That being said, they could have possibly kept the burstbuckers and updated the headstock and sold it for $999-1099.
@@BigJohn95 i have a 2010 with 57 classics awsome guitars
how about some Schecter guitars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Schecter Solo II Supreme!
I would put it up against a Gibson of twice the $, the specs alone are off the charts. I also own several Epiphone LP's from several eras that are fun to upgrade and can be really nice. It also helps that I live next door to a luthier.
I have the older Demon 6 in Crimson Red Burst. Put Seymour Duncan Pegasus/Sentient in it and put locking tuners on it (Gotoh).
It's still way cheaper than these and I wouldn't trade it for any Epiphone.
It's still an Epiphone
Hey could never use the epiphone ugly headstock ever again and keep the Gibson one
The real custombuckers have vintage style braided ground wire. These are some cheaper pickups with the same name.
They the same pickups from Gibson, these just have the quick connect system, which I don’t like either. What got me confused is Epiphone release video didn’t have the quick connect
These clearly have the braided ground wire, but there's a rubber sleeve around it as well which they don't do in the Gibson reissues
They can put as much lipstick as possible on these guitars I still wouldn’t buy one. No rosewood. Where else did they cut corners construction-wise. Save your pennies and wait until you can afford a USA LP . You can find used LP Standards for $2K. YMMV
You want a solid American made guitar stick with Fender. Gibsons are overpriced and their built qualities are ridiculous.
Out of all the inspired by Gibson is the ES-355 get one I did
Laurel....Noooooo
laurel??? with a sticker price of $1400??? the fcuk??
I mean… mother of pearl inlays costs 50$ a set, but 20$ for Epiphone at the max, the custombuckers are just 100$ more expensive than the Burstbuckers 1 and 2… for Epiphone I’m sure they do not pay more than 50$ more… so overall, for 70$ more of costs, and we will get charged 300$ more for the same model with just 70$ upgrades??? It does not make any sense!! And do not give me that inflation BS… they increased the price by 30%!!! And the indian laurel… come on… for this price it should come with rosewood and nitro finish!!
usd 1299 VS Japan Lespaul under USD 1000 so LOL
So many seem brainwashed by the Gibson marketing/PR. This is a cheaply made guitar with the some reasonable electronics added to attempt to justify the outrageous pricing. The headstock change costs the company nothing. The strategy is to make more margin! Long term these guitars will devalue badly and will never be cherished. Thanks for nice review guys.
For all you Karens in the comments. I have a Wildwood LP with the Wildwood pickups, and I also have this Epi in the iced tea finish. I enjoy the $1,200 Epi more than I enjoy the $3,500 Wildwood. Yall are just mad because the Epi is out of your price range
