Kirk is a very smart man. You don't score 33 on a Wonderlik without some form of intelligence. He rather die from natural causes (that he cannot control) rather than putting an unknown..untested...unproven chemical into his body. But this is America. Zimmer wasted the Vikings talent the last 4 years he was HC when Spielman signed KC over his objections. Instead of embracing that he had lots of talent offensively, O-line excluded (Spielmans fault), he chose to play conservative, defense first football. It is not a coincidence that he cycled through OC's every season and that 3 of 4 were firsttime OC's. Especially in the first KC season, it seemed he deliberately wanted KC to get killed just to prove his point. Aside from not accepting that the game had evolved (he got his SB ring with Aikman throwing 16TD's that season), Zimmer was an insecure, petty little shit. His last decision, to deliberately avoid Jefferson setting a new team record, was who he was.

Yep. Should've seen all this red flags. Norv Turner got so fed up he quit in the middle of the season. I loved Zimmer and his defense but my God, he was stuck in the past with his offensive philosophy. Not only did he refuse to give JJ the rookie record at the end of the season, if only he started JJ the first two games of the season he would've easily broken that record, but Zimmer had this attitude of rookies don't start for whatever reason. You can't tell me Bisi Johnson beat out JJ for that starting job in camp.

Seems to me Zimmer was a much better defense coordinator. This is why he was passed on by many teams as head coach for a long time until he got a shot with Minnesota. I guess it didn’t work out very well.

Unless Kirk Audibles all the stupid plays and chooses to push the ball downfield a crap ton more...it is completely the coaching staffs fault for only winning by **Two**. Point of this entire video was a year of Kirk not having more power over the offense and the coaching staff not letting Kirk go deep more. Furthermore, Zim never liked Kirk and Kirk just proved YET again that He is worth it and He was a good choice. Kirk proved that the entire year after an entire game of conservative and scared play calling.
You're missing the context. By this point of the season everyone thought Zimmer was in hot water. If they had lost this game there was a very good chance Zimmer would've gotten fired right there, and they almost did because of Zimmer's conservative approach on offense. Kirk pretty much saved Zimmer's job with that last drive. The two didn't like each other so that was Kirk's way of rubbing it in Zimmer's face.
