I thought about getting a Model 12 to replace my Alto Live 1202. But I decided not to bother with the 12 nor the 16 when I saw they didn't have Send and Return jacks for my outboard effects gear(Alesis Quadrverb and Pioneer RMX-500.
I had spent time researching how to use sends & returns jacks and wasn't about to purchase gear that didn't have them, especially at those prices. But Tascam does have a convoluted way of utilizing outboard gear if you want to go that route.

@@Mr.Taylor56 I have the Model 12. It has 2 aux sends, a stereo submix send and a pair of insert jacks on channels 1-2. I use my subs to send to my outboard HX Stomp guitar effects (reverb etc.). My aux sends to my DBX side-chain compressor. And my inserts to my “mastering” Fredenstein F200 stereo compressor. However, this costs me channels 1-2 as dedicated “return” channels. So only 4 stereo channels left to use as true inputs. Hope that was helpful.

@@Mr.Taylor56 The Soundcraft MTK’s may be a better choice with external gear. I had the MTK22 and it definitely had more sends. I can’t remember whether it had returns as well. I replaced my MTK22 with a Model16 because (a) I wanted to record without hooking up a computer and (b) it’s easier to see the state of the Tascam units because the buttons on the Soundcraft are small and densely packed. But of late I have been wanting to do dub mixes and the Model16 is a bit limited with the external effects all needing to come back in on existing channels. My feature requests so far after two days with a live 2 (a couple seem like glaring design oversights tbh):
Allow MIDI Setups to be saved as presets within MIDI Programs, with MIDI Port/channel/program change/cc settings/assignments included.
MIDI Programs are currently pretty much useless.
Give the Pad Perform settings an option for them to saved to either master project setting, or tied to a programs within the project.
This would make it possible to have Pad Perform set to chords on one track, and a scale on another which would be really nice, and save on having to select everything all over again every time.
Stop Pad Perform from forgetting it’s Root Note and Scale setting when switching back from progressions to notes.
Add a search bar within the sample editor, it’s a pain trying to find your bounces/samples within the editor itself because it only have the drop down/scroll menu if you have sample heavy instruments within a project.
Allow Sequence bounces to be named before they’re rendered.

Clone your sequences, name them, record track mutes to each sequence accordingly, arrange the sequences in song mode, print the song into a sequence. Go to the sequence, choose to edit track mutes if you want, add more samples, more ideas, sequence it again in song mode.

And if we want to also record the midi signals of the synths besides audio, should we then also connect the usb`s of those synths into that usb hub?.. That said it is still not very clear how the best routing setup looks like to be most versatile and 'non' destructive, this video only shows the software side not the hardware wiring - I assume we also need midi signals to be able to sequence with the clock and be able to adjust and or manipulate notes on the fly or in post - instead of recording wave only.. (I see this recording waves only, actually mostly benefitting vocals the most I guess) Or what am I missing here?!..
