I was 6 living on Morton street, going to Roosevelt Elementary in Hyde Park.
My Aunt had JUST bought her house in Fields Corner off Geneva Ave.
This brings back STRONG memories for me.
My mom had just bought a VCR and we'd rent movies from this place down in Ashmont across from the T.
On Saturdays we'd take the bus to Ashmont. Take the train to Downtown crossing I'd run wild in Filienes Basement.
Proud to be born and raised in Boston.
Now I'm in Texas, but Boston will ALWAYS be home.

Aaaaaaaah Boston Your My Home . What memories I use to operate a woodworking shop out of the old “Baker Chocolate Factory in Dot Lower Mills and for a time worked also in my late teens rehabbing old triple decors all the way to and on Columbia Rd in the hood. I’ve since been all around this world several times .

I grew up on the South Shore but at this time I was working my first full time job out of college down in Florida and I had come back in January 1985.
Dorchester was so different then before the gentrification. Granted it was run down, a bit poorer, a some blight in some areas but it wasn't hideously expensive like it is today.
The people in this video seemed to be enjoying themselves, and the young white men there were engaged in athletic pursuits or just hanging out. And everyone was so fit and trim compared to now!
