AI and the Battlefield of the Future

Exploring the dynamic realm of AI in defence, AI UK’s 2024 Research Stage welcomed Aamer Sarfraz (Member, House of Lords) to share his insights into the advancing landscape of navigating AI in defence.
A thought-provoking session, Lord Sarfraz’ talk centred around the ever-evolving intersection of ethics, security and technology. Focusing on autonomous weapon systems (AWS), the discussion touched on transparency, ethical considerations including bias in AI, and parliamentary oversight, as well as the prohibition of AI in nuclear command and the need for a clear definition of AWS, maintaining human control, and adapting procurement for predictive maintenance.
