  • So today we have part 3 - Bickerton to Whitchurch
    Getting there
There are places to park at either end of todays route or you could stay at the suggested accommodation at the start and end of todays route. Details of parking, accommodation and a map of the route are available on my website. www.runadventu...
    The Route
We Begin our route today at Goldford Lane in Bickerton. Turn right up the Sandstone trail marked path which climbs Bickerton Hill for a stunning view. The path dips then rises again at Larkton Hill again with gorgeous views and then drops down into Hether Wood following the edge of the woodland and then dropping you down onto the rolling grassland of the Cheshire Plain. The path takes you past Larkton Hall then crosses Long lane and down past Manor House Farm Stables to Shay Lane. At the lane turn right and then take the path on the left to Hampton Green. Cross the road and over the fields. Note the marker was slightly confusing at the far side of the field that was ploughed in the video, you cross the field through the gate and turn right. Follow the path through to Bickleywood. At the road turn right and left into Flag lane then take the path on the left into Bickley Hall Farm. Follow the path over the fields to the next farm which was awash with sheep today, head through the farmyard then turn left. Head over the fields to Willeymoor lane where you go right then immediately left and over the last couple of fields to Willeymoor Lock on the Llangollen canal. Turn right towards Whitchurch. You pass through Grindley Brook, past the staircase locks. Almost there now, lookout for the road bridge we go under, shortly after this cross a bridge to the end of the canal at Chemistry then take the path which crosses the road and comes out at the car park at our finishing point at Sherrymill Hill Car Park.

Well done Simon for all you do, I’ve lived in Cheshire all my life but am always amazed at the corners and paths you find.
I know the `Sandstone Trail quite well and the views from Kitty’s Stone and the curiosity of St Chads so thanks for allowing me to see it all again. I met you a few months ago on top of `Frodsham Hill so I hope you are well and much improved.

Yep, so did most of this one today, there and back. Not much shade, hat was a neccessity! BEWARE THE BOG in the field at 17.45!! Visit the pub at Willeymoor lock for refreshments, nice garden or seats by the canal. 🍻

I know where you mean, it was just a slight squelch the day I went, we’ve had a lot of rain lately though, I imagine the stretch near tarporley was a big again. Yes pub looked good, it was still shut when I went past as it was pre pub inside permitted and they hadn’t reopened, not that I had time, this 3rd section was a race against the sunset

April, it gets pretty muddy in the winter best in late spring for running, dry and not too hot

Where’s the nearest car park in Whitchurch when you reach the end of the walk?
