@@JohnStarr hello john! I was afraid of clowns because of the horror movies, then I met the guy that was ronald mcdonald here in portugal, and he invited me to watch him get ready... That day I the fear stopped and I loved hearing his stories. Tbh you reminded me of him! Hugs from portugal!
Thanks Hugo. By the way...in 1977 I auditioned to play Ronald McDonald in a TV Commercial! I didn’t get the job, but McDonalds hired me for two other Commercials as a Behind the Counter Guy. Don’t faint, but I introduced Hash Browns for McDonalds! It was called “Guess the weight of a 50 pound Hash Brown”. Basically every person who care into their local McDonalds that month ‘won’ a free Hash Brown.
So anyone who has ever had a Hash Brown at McDonalds...you’re welcome!

It wasn't horror movies that started clown fear, it was Gacy, who partially inspired It. And it's actually because clowns are supposed to be happy and joyful that they make such good horror characters, it's how unexpected and twisted it is. Like how children and dolls and toys and lullabies are also terrifying in horror movies.

Psychologically, it's an issue of being scared of people hiding their identity like masks. And also uncanny Valley with exaggerated features because they're human-but-not-quite. But Gacy is definitely a part of the social aspect as well as the fact that clowns used to be predominantly adult entertainers.

i mean my parents said they never knew of the fear of clowns til scary clowns started showing up in media they said kids used to love clowns it might be gacy but i wouldn't be shocked if IT didn't also start this trend.

I do agree with you.I think if we were to see her performance(since each clown has their own character into life) then maybe then the way she presents her makeup is due to how she brings her character

I’m really enjoying these clown videos! Growing up there was a lady who lived across the street from me who was a clown and she was always super sweet and kind. I think hearing these individuals talk about their life and experiences as clowns is really neat.

Story on why I’m scared of clowns:
So where I’m from there’s something called “children’s day” so once on children’s day my dad was taking me and my brother somewhere and we stopped in a gas station so he could use the bathroom. He didn’t lock the doors when he left us in the car. So we were just siting there and out of no where a clown opened the car door with some balloons and said “happy children’s day”. I screamed and crawled back. Then my dad came and yea.

You gotta add more to the act, I was a clown for four years, Out here in California i knew clowns who would invest in buying bounce houses, DJ equipment, And other accessories so they'd be able to charge 200 or 300 a birthday party (And yes they had part time jobs on the side, Usually night shift)

And a lot of humans are born with the fear of not being able to see emotions on a face. People who are REALLY scared tend to be scared of masks, mimes and most performance that involves masking your face.

Just a side note...for us older folks The Joker on the 1960s Campy TV Show (played by the great Caesar Romero) was done strictly for laughs. Not scary at all. So when I mention the many Horror Films in the 1980s that featured Clowns I truly remember how it started to change the Clown business. And Jack Nicholson’s Joker in 1989 “Batman” with Michael Keaton contributed to scary clown mystique too (& it was a worldwide movie theatre smash hit, not some cheap old-school straight to video horror film), John Wayne Gacy is bigger today because of the Internet then he was in the 1980s. His story came and went. Then came back big in the last 10-15 years.
It’s strange what affects society and what’s remembered.
This makes me feel bad for working on a creepy clown look for months just for Halloween. Wtf. Y'all are amazing.

As someone who lived most of her childhood at a RMH (Ronald mcdonald house) due to needing medical help in the u.s (but not being from the u.s), i had a lot of fond memories with ronald mcdonad and many other clowns. Many of my favorite memories that came with my dad also included clowns since he'd get passes to circuses and clown shows (he worked with police) so clowns will forever have a special place in my heart. Thank you guys so SO much for doing what y'all are doing and making kids laugh, specially those of us who would be hospitalized or just got from the hospital tired and in pain from treatment, y'all made out childhoos a little less painful. ❤❤❤❤
