Glad you did the video, and captioned that it could not be used as an internal drive. I was gonna buy them as internal drives... thank you.
@@Simon-sf7ng i just brought 4 as internal drives :/
You could just hook them up to one of the internal USB headers on a desktop motherboard, and rig up some mounting method.
+1, was really helpful. I was considering buying a larger capacity 2.5" drive and just shoving it into this casing. I guess not!
@@Mrgh0styyy dont worry there musta be a way or cable to use it as internal hdd check out in Chinese market
Segates can be used as internal drives but its well known the WD 2.5" ones can't
Suprised to find non SATA interface. Thanks for the video !
It seems like what everyone is doing now, to stop shuckers
So, almost everyone here came hoping to turn it into internal drive? 😂
They’re $20 on eBay right now, so yeah lol
😆
All of us here since they are cheaper than off-the-shelf 2.5" internal drives
Bought one for my playstation and thought I can upgrade my old HDD. Then i relised it's not compatible.
relatable 🤣
Why did I not see this sooner... Bought 5 of those 5Tb ones just because Amazon had them with REALLY good price on the weekend. Opened one of mine, found out I cannot use them in my self build NAS box. Never before seen this kind of cheakines, other external HDD-s I have dismantled before, have always been with standard connections and small sata adapters... Fun...
Can you name other HDDs which have detachable USB?
I know of only Seagate.
Wow. Thank you. What A piece of SHIIIIIT Western Digital. I have the 2TB version. I have it for about 2 years and only use it occasionally. It only has a couple of 100 Hours on time, but it started to make weird noises. I will have to remove my data ASAP. Thank you for posting this bro.
Hey I’m in the same boat! What did you end up doing to get the data off? I’m so lost any help oils be much appreciated!!!
what did you do? I'm facing same issue + i feel it little swollen i guess, i can feel its a bit loose @@LoganLettermann
Thank you! I have a couple of these lying around and I was wondering if they could be used as internal drives... I see it's not possible. Bummer!
thanks for the video was going to buy this for my laptop it was on sale very cheap but you save me from wasting my time
Thanks for saving me time!
Interesting how they went out of their way to make it a non-standard drive.
In my case, it's not a big issue because I use it for storage. Even if it was a normal sata interface, I doubt it would fit because it's very thick.
At least the 4tb one I have.
@@C20F they live 2-3 years, good enough for me
Thanks for the warning! I also wanted it for internal storage, oh well
I was looking for this type of video.. thanks you
Well that's annoying, I've lost the cable and was hoping I could use a USB to sata adapter I have lying around. Saved me trying to open it though, thanks :)
I was expecting to see a SATA interface. Guess I'll have to find another alternative for my project!
Thanks for shring it!
Bro no there are external drives with SATA HDD I have one and opened it up to see what's inside
Best video on how to open WD easystore
thank you, I was buying this for internal drive, thanks
Thanks bro, got to fill these NES Pi cartridges 💪🏻
Just bought one, thinking of transferring the HDD to my USB C casing. Good to know it do not have a SATA connector. So nvm, it is good as it is. A bit slow on the writing side but you get what you pay for. Good value for money.
bah, my power cable broke for the 2TB one I have, was going to build it in my PC as extra storage, too bad it doesn't have a sata interface.
luckily I fast forwarded to the end of the video before starting
thank youz for that info, i need to "safe" a WB external hard disk with a instable connector
at least i have the info already that i cant just plug it in somewhere else
So, um, I own one of those (5TB) for all things university, it notably has some code and a lot of data for my research. I accidentally dropped it today, it started making some clicking noise when the internal parts spin, and I have trouble accessing the data inside. How screwed am I right now? I'll just attempt to open it up and see if I can't fix it real quick, wish me luck......
Can I hook this up into one of those powered external hdd docks?
Thanks. Was going to buy this to use it as internal drive. That's not going to work
how do you fully disassemble them
Since SATA adapters don't work with this model, is there an alternative to recover data from a damaged drive?
mine won't let me access the data inside , can you help please !!
No luck opening this Easy Store version, but thanks for the warning @ the end - cannot just stick it in another USB 2.5" enclosure to test HD? Uhh
I bought one in error. Removed the case and found no SATA connection. So, not to be put off, I didn't put in back in the case but connected the USB then ran the cable to a USB port through the back of my PC. fitted the little rubber feet to the HDD and attached it to the PC case and it works as though it was SATA connected. Job done.
Wish I understood this better. Sounds like you found the solution.
Could you please explain in more detail?
Aw crap I looked this up hoping it had a detachable adapter! Rats!
glad I found this. Was wondering if it was just an adapter board and was going to replace the HDD with an SSD if it was. oh well.
very helpful thank you.
Huh... I thought all the external HDDs used a detachable SATA - USB adapter.
Thanks!
Mine didn’t come with storage
Mine is a making a soumds when reading and cant be initialize in my computer, any help?
Thanx for video now I am not going to open my hdd
God bless you. Thanks.
Got one of those, but no more spinning. What could I do?
Thanks man.
damn! imagine if the usb-controller goes bust (which they generally do quicker than the HDD itself), good luck retrieving the data such a drive.
What is that toll? I need to open mine. I just spilled water on it and it started beeping, I think I need to air it out. Looks like a guitar pick
I opened my WD HD that I bought today and there was a weight glued inside and no hard drive. Stick to authorized sellers/resellers.
thank you
Why would you disable like counter?
Hi!
Does it produce quite loud sounds while it spins up and down?
no sound at all
Very small vibrations while working , you can feel by touching it. No sound at all.
@@akuygserius Thanks!
@@AK_Erwin @Tom Morelo Thanks!
Any Idea if the 5tb WD Elements Portable case also has no sata interface?
yes
is there any usb to sata adapter?
thank you i used my finger
My same HDD is fine. It detects on PC but doesn't know why it does not show. My friend once connect a connector of this external hard drive to it and worked perfectly without making any sound of buzz or clicking !! What could be the solution to it. And what connector to use to connect to the pc. Please guide/help.
What is the tool you used to remove the casing?
It's a nylon pry pick/guitar pick.
I was hoping to recover the data because I have one that has gone bad. Now I can't either way because of stupid design.
Hello,do you know any reliable 2tb external 2.5" that can be used as an internal drive?
Try the Seagate HDDs..
i wish i saw this before i bought it, when did they start changing the boards so they couldn't be used, seems like an unnecessary fuck you to the customer, who are we hurting my swapping them out....
Seagate has a removable board... ruclips.net/video/ewrU-y75Kog/видео.html
@@TechLifestyle too late lol just spent £60 on this one. Will have to just stick what I got
@@IsThatDrak See my post
Anyone know what the size are?
How to open it without a guitar pick?
@Izidino Ernesto You can try to use an Credit card or similar, ideally a more thin one
I used one side of a pair of tweezers. be gentle and you should be fine
Buy Seagate instead.
Comprei um HD idêntico infelizmente joguei dinheiro fora pois é impossível usar como HD interno no Ps4.
You can use as external for games, is really really good, I personally use it.
Argos advertise this as an SSD
Proprietary as F...
Anyone else pissed off to find that the drive doesn't have SATA inside?
What a useless drive!!!
I have one with a failed USB controller and now all of my data is gone!?
That's why it's cheap product😂
LOL
Bummer.
Pure waste of resources for this kind of design
