I wonder if the local police even bother to stop Leno when he goes on the street blowing a siren on an old beautiful fire truck, lol..."damn, there he goes again...shall we stop him? Naaaah...."
I owned a 1947 ALF series 700 12 cylinder fire engine that was fully restored from Algonac Michigan. It had two distributors four coils two each 12 volt batteries and 24 spark plugs. It had a push button start and start it every single time. Absolutely a monster to drive as you double clutched up and down with the four speed manual transmission. You were wore out driving it at the end of the day but there's nothing better than once a man twice a child driving a fire engine. I had two of them!
my take away is that bernard is the man. there's is always a way to get the job done and i remember bernard all the way back to monster garage being the dude who figured things out. bernard if i had money like jay, you would be my go to dude too.
Here in Oz our Christmases are often a scorching 40 or more degrees C, and when ever there's a Christmas country picnic Santa always arrives in a firetruck with sirens waling never in a Ferrari with the horn beeping. Invariably, many kids go after Santa but many kids love the firetruck. If Santa arrived in one of these it would draw kids of ALL ages. What a beautiful vehicle.
it's really amazing how this fire truck is and it looks really beautiful... it's really rare to see fire trucks like this or classic police cars but it's amazing how really nice they are...
Love this vid! My grandfather had been a fireman in Marlboro, Mass and his dad, my great grandfather had been the fire chief there. When I was a boy my grandpa would take me down to the fire station and I would sit in and climb all over their American LaFrance firetrucks. Thanks for bringing back those memories~~~
Beautiful restoration. I especially love the addition of the Tommy Gate G2 Model hydraulic liftgate, slightly modified as it is, this could not be a motorcycle rescue vehicle without that fabulous Tommy Gate. Jay and crew hit it out of the park, again.
Mind blowing! That truck is really beautiful! Of course if it wasn't you it would have been a junk car blocking dust until today. Great work and glad to see that classic beauty came back to life.
I just asked that question...but you answered it a year ago. :) Whats both happy and sad is that the building was saved and renovated...but is now half filled with a Papa Johns Pizza. Everything thats wrong with America in one post right there... Oh how the mighty have fallen...
I owned a 1942 American lafrance that was owned buy Evansville Indiana that truck was a joy to drive in parades It had model j engine two carberaters two 12 wire distributers and 4 coils had to make my own plug wires I wish I still had it today. I was able to get one 1975 American lafrance that was in the movie back draft as a spare that I am restoring to put in parades and use for advertising!
Aye Bitchin ride I restored one of these trucks in Dallas tx a few years back. rebuilt the engine and poured Babbitt bearings for it scraped and sanded that giant rusting thing and it took for ever working out the Orange peel and all the other things needed to make it quality but it was all worth it to drive that prehistoric monster it's got a tall clutch pedal that is painful to use if you get stuck on the highway like me. Well if you read this Jay roll that thing a foot every three months so it doesn't get a flat spot on the tires or it will shake the wax out of your ears. love the tailgate mod we would put rollers in the back for caskets for funerals but also drove it in parades for charity's to help kids out. If you ever need carbs and rotor caps for that thing let me know. Thanks for posting cool vids jay and if you have one make a 68 greeves challenger video my grandpa tried to sell his to you when you where still working in Amarillo I still ride it. Ha ha funny this comment will never be read by jay but who knows.
with the new up dated breaks system you installed in another video, he wont have any problems with this old girl for decades. congrats on bringing her back to life. we have a old fire truck in town from the 40s. looks cool as heck. they keep it at the morgue tho. shrugs. i think they only bring it out on parades and its white..
Hey Jay i know were to find the only other 1941 American LaFrance Firetruck. It's in Tangent, Oregon and it's at the fire station there, I have ridden in it since my dad was the fire cheif there. It's still in working order but it needs alot of work done on it still.
Glad to see you saved her, Jay. It breaks my heart to see fire trucks rot away, get sold for scrap, or get junked. Very nicely done, Sir!
My department at home has a 1946 American Lafrance that's original and unrestored and still runs like a champ
A true classic!! That sterling 30 siren sounds great too!
I wonder if the local police even bother to stop Leno when he goes on the street blowing a siren on an old beautiful fire truck, lol..."damn, there he goes again...shall we stop him? Naaaah...."
I think he pays all his fines a year in advance, and they just send him the change back if there is any.
I think it's called a "hefty donation"...
There's usually a regulation sirens.
He's right! As a boy this would've been waaaaay cooler to me than a ferrari lol

lived half a block from the Lafrance factory awesome truck....
WOW! After building fire trucks for 21 years this is my favourite Jay Leno video!
My favorite firetruck is this LaFrance. So beautiful, good job Jay!
As a former firefighter I must say this was a treat!
What a fantastic firetruck!!
Jay, you’ve got a excellent looking vehicle there. Thanks for saving it and posting.

Fire Truck made in Elmira, New York. The Siren is a Sterling Model 20, made in Rochester, New York

DG//// I never did get a good look at the side of the siren. I thought it was a model 30 from what little I could see.
My favorite of Jay's vehicles. Will never forget seeing him on the 405 in this
I so thought he was going to crush the tail gate remote cable at 3:43.
Great work Jay.
Hiii im from France and i love this style of truck waoooo !
Beautiful engine, I love vintage fire trucks.
He neglects to mention the acres of torque that big engine probably has.
Another gift from Jay video - "most practical vehicle I own" gave me repeated lol's.
This was actually the first ever Jays garage episode...kewl
Cooler than a Ferrari.
Most practical vehicle he owns. This is why I watch this.

Our frat house owned one, needed engine work, beyond my skill set way back then. Could make it hum now 48 years later.
I think that is the fire truck with the awesome braking system. Was hoping to see that.

I love the sound that thing makes.
WOW, that is one hell of a firetruck.
A true masterpiece Mr Leno
You should do another video in more detail about this vehicle. It's very cool!
COOL SOUND AT 4:06
AND NICE 1941 American LaFrance Firetruck - Jay Leno's Garage KEEP UP THE GRATE VIDEOS AND WORK
Cool old ALF. Those E V-12's are really neat engines.
amazing, built to aircraft standards and left at the airport..
problly as guard ^^ Congrats on being the FIRST owner Jay!!!
I’m glad your taking care of this stuff Jay.
Very sharp and I love the repurpose of the old First res
Priceless jay..and hats off to bernard for the intavated lift gate ...
It truly is -- I wish he had shown us the engine. I have seen other American LaFrance units with two, 12-cylinder distributors.
Gorgeous - Piece of history restored very nicely. Useful too!!
imagine asking jay to help you move and he rolls up in this thing
at 1:39 ...that noise you made, Jay, scared the shit out of me.
I have never seen ANY car/truck at that hight. and i gotta say it looks pretty damn good even for being a fire truck!
Jay is is still a kid when it comes to cars.
thats the coolest fire truck I have ever seen
This truck was used as reference for Team Bondi to remake it in LA Noire.
Fun fact team Bondi went bankrupt not long after LA Noire was released it was out in May and they were bankrupt by October
That is about the COOLEST thing i've ever seen! Sweet!
Big fan. Love standard cars and trucks.
Awesome firetruck, I would put a Harley Davidson Firefighter bike in the back.

Hey Jay, now that is a CLASSIC! Nice job!
Tom (from Woburn)
I saw you driving this around sun valley a couple years ago

Hilarious.
Best thing of 2013 so far!
That is one beautiful machine!
A beautiful vehicle!
jay u got the coolest cars ever
Was also featured on My Classic Car in a feature called 'Jay's Toys'.
Jay we would love to see a full episode on this firetruck.
this was made in my home town!!
Cool story. Good looking truck, too
the irony being that Jay Leno's most practical vehicle is a 1941 firetruck with no roof
Thanks for sharing this, such a beautiful machine!
Nice.!! .. Great Story behind a cool ole Fire Truck..
I love it when "experts" say something can't be done. Just ask some ol' timers and they say "sure, no problem"...

coolest truck ever!!!
Wow, everybody must know you around town Jay they hear you coming !
Great looking resto!!
Sweet piece jay !
Awesome in so many regards!! 🇺🇸 👍
Awesome looking truck! For a truck of that size, I'd give it a Cummins diesel, either a 6BT or a 4BT diesel.
Very cool thanks for posting
A cool ride for sure. Thanks J!
Love the fire truck. Thanx jay
It's not all about the HP. It's about the torque!
Great video.
That's a great find
does anyone know what sort of audio system Jay uses when he's riding his bikes? the sound quality is fantastic!
This firetruck is cool !!!
nice fire truck, Leno good guy.
Jay I love you for doing these quirky videos! We all have a child inside who wants to play! :)

Very Cool Mr Leno
