- What a Sunday! Phewwwweeee... We are tired. But - We have successfully finished our one side of fencing that the goats broke through recently with the help of some friends. And Uncle Dan came over to help cut some stumps for us. We are grateful!

Take plastic forks from fast food places and jam them around new seedlings in the garden. Cats can't roll over the new plants. Put your wood ash in your garden plants along with crushed egg shells.

You all did a wonderful job on the new fence. What a day with family help. Those stumps looked like they were quite a chore. Burning the midnight oil, looked so pretty and it even looked like a full moon. Your little flowers are doing so good. Everything is looking fantastic. Have a relaxing night after t he laundry. The work is never done!

Put a cattle panel over the box garden area to keep them cats out just lay it across the top and remove it when the plants grow through the top. That fence looks beautiful. I got a funny story about dill. My late husband absolutely loved dilly beans. So 1st year I grew extra g.beans to can him dilly beans but recipe called for fresh dilly. Looked high and low no grocery stores carried fresh dill. So 1st year was a bust. 2nd year extra g.beans grew my own dill in my garden. Canned up 16 quart of dilly beans. Hubby was a happy man. Not really any other purpose for fresh dill but did freeze in ice cube trays and stored in freezer bag. Mean while dill bolted in garden. Never gave it another thought. So following year had regular garden. As season began all was well. One evening a neighbor stopped by and asked about dill we grew. Thinking they needed fresh I offered frozen fresh. They replied no they had plenty? Evidently when my bolted the birds had transferred the seeds and it grew quite well in areas all over their yard. Smells like pickles when they walked outside. In one week's time we had 6 neighbors stop by informing us that they too had a yard full of fresh dill. Needless to say we didn't have very happy neighbors and our whole block smelled like pickles. Who knew those birds would sow so many seeds. Lol Moral to this story don't let dill bolt = unhappy neighbors! 😂

Put cattle panels over the top of your raised bed, so the cats can’t get in there. Or something like that over the top I just thought since you had extra ones you could use those. Ash is good for roses too.
Wood ash is especially good for vegetable gardens. In older days farmers regularly put wood ash from fireplaces in vegetable gardens. We are lacking magnesium from produce farm veggies. That's why the Amercan diet is lacking magnesium.

Could you put the cattle panels over the raised bed gardens to discourage the cats from pooping and rolling in the plants? I love your Homestead it is practical and beautiful. It takes talent to make things functional and aesthetically pleasing and you've done it very well!
Steph, I saw a post today that planting sunflowers with your cucumbers will make them sweeter, and both are good in the same soil. Also, as the sunflowers grow, the cucumbers will use them for support ... just a thought
I planted a chocolate mint a few years ago. It smelled so good. Found the plants at Walmart. Maybe try getting some plastic forks and stick them with the points facing up into the dirt in the garden, suppose to keep the cats out. Also a good thing to do with the ashes is give it to the chickens. They like to take dust baths in it.
