I hope Scaletrains continues with UP 844. We need competition in this market. The lack of it especially for steam engines is why makers like Broadway Limited can continue to get away with using crappy Paragon decoders. This coming from someone who owns two Paragon 2 steam locomotives so I'm not just hating just to hate, I want them to do better.
@@RodimusPrime and you also have to option to put in a 100kohm glass bead thermistor next to the heating element to control the temperature just like how esu has done with their smoke units
Literally the only thing mth and bli smoke units need to be compatible with ESU is a thermistor, thats literally all esu did with there smoke units. But now theres a new way of getting smoke, and that is a single ultrasonic mister, smallest common size is 16mm. Use that and a simple custom mixture of water and 1 or 2 other liquids, and you got something that works better than a heated oil smoke unit!
Shane mentioned in a recent live stream that the fan driven smoke would be retained. So no Seuthe thankfully. Also, FYI, the Paragon 3 models claimed "High Resolution Audio". I've begged BLI to update their audio files or switch to a 3rd party. They make great models, but they are 4th at best in sound IMHO. They seem to be egotistically stuck on their own stuff because they've done it for so long.
@@RodimusPrime Exactly! Time to start campaigning with ESU. HO needs a full aftermarket replacement sound decoder that comes with or supports smoke units. I've been asking ESU and TCS for years. TCS told me 2 years ago that the next WowSound decoder would support fan driven smoke units. Still waiting...
@@RodimusPrime I'm not a lawyer, but I thought that was settled when BLI fought that after MTH sued them? Either way, with MTH ceasing to exist in a month or so we should hopefully move beyond that and finally get new products in this area. I'm moving down from O and S and good sound and smoke are top priorities for me if I'm going to enjoy HO. Hopefully this is the turning point. Really sucks if MTH was holding back the development of products in HO. I'm all for capitalism, but when one person can cause stagnation in an entire industry that doesn't seem right.
I totally agree with this… I was going to say it here until I saw your comment! All the ST guys are very close w/Kentucky Steam. I’m a Pennsy fan not really a UP fan but I would buy 2716!
@@Chasetwalkerproductions man that would be awesome! I can’t wait. Although they would probably want the most accurate sound possible which would involve recording 2716 once it’s running, right? Very exciting but prob still far off if true.
My paragon 4 number 2102 I received 3 days ago is just as bad as my Niagra paragon 3. Not unlike the Niagra I must send it to the factory to be fixed. The smoke unit is less than desirable and the chuff system intermittently cuts out. I can't imagine why the chuff problem persists from paragon 3-4.

ESU I/O board used with the lok sound sound will allow you to retain the factory smoke unit as the I/O board will control and synchronize the chuff
How

Esu is coming out with a direct drop in adaptor board for p3&4 models

Then the question is that fan driven unit being available seperately for purchase

Chalk me up as a potential buyer for aftermarket smoke/sound as well. Have a couple p2k Berkshires needing dcc, as well as some genesis 2-8-2s.
The steamer scaletrains is doing will most likely be C&O 2716 as they've been supporting Kentucky steam since they started
You know I had no idea and the ideas I heard we’re pretty stupid but this sounds like there’s a chance of this.

Yea i just hope they do multiple road #s as id like some for my In service fleet
i heard from an Athearn rep they are doing the FEF3's again and will have a promontory version of 844.
They can keep them lol. 0 percent interest in that plastic
@@RodimusPrime I figured lol. just wanted to throw it out there. I bet they'd even have it more expensive than the BLI version.
The Athearn FEF2 and FEF3 have a msrp of 730.00 USD. Thats lot for a plastic model!
I noticed a hole below the whistle on the FEF Samples. That can only mean one thing.

12:53 that is an I1sa 2-10-0. I'd really want the Dreyfus Hudson too, even a little more accurate than the Key Imports model from the early 90s
I am now interested in the I1sa as well.
The new I1sa prices are a bit too high. I will wait for the lowered prices to come.
So no material changes to any model in the way of improvement, just some different software. Call it #4 & charge more.
Pretty much, the motors are supposed to be sealed a bit better
When is the next video coming out
Waiting on MTH yellowstone to come
