      No, thank you for posting, Hammer.
      Hey, I'm expecting a new Golden! Someone is rehoming with me. It won't be for 1 1/2 to 2, but I'm excited. YOU would understand! How's Manog?

      @@ParrotBliss awesome on the GC. I’m jealous but in a good way. Yea I’m still on the lookout for a reasonable priced GC as a buddy for Mango. She is doing fine, molting but good. Luckily we have a traveling avian vet that comes by here once a month and I take her to him occasionally for beak trimming and overall check ups. She has really taken to following me around the house. She hates to be alone. But when my daughter’s home from college or on the phone, she makes a bee line to her or her voice. lol
      Anyways keep us informed on the GC. Can’t wait to see him/her in the vids.

      I could tell you about another friend that has a GC for sale and ships-- but the problem is the price. Over 6K --
      I feel it is important to understand and appreciate that these birds are, in fact, rare. GC used to be on the endagered list.
      On the other hand, some parrots are simply not affordable. 5 or 6 thousand is A LOT of money!
      Sending Mango hugs~ and, if it all works out, I'm really looking forward to the new GC. I hope you find one, Mango sounds like she needs a buddy! But, you have other parrots, doesn't she like them?

      @@ParrotBliss yea locally $6500 for one here. I. Sure I’ll find another rehoming or rescue in the future. In the meantime we will see what becomes available. As I had mentioned before I also like Capes. I’ve got time. Mango gets along with the other two, a cockatiel and a parrotlet. We lost our 3 years old parakeet a couple months ago to an unknown illness. He was the life of the party and the social butterfly of the group. I may get another one and hope for the same. The cockatiel will be going to my daughter this March, so we will be down to two birds. I think our max number will be 4 or 5. After all that’s all our RV has room for when we travel. lol
      The worry too is if we introduce another bird, will they get along. The dynamic so far has been great.

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  Год назад +1

      @@hammer-r I love that you measure by how many fit in your RV 😀- yes, whether or not they will get along it’s always a question. If introduced properly, they generally do, which it sounds like you know how to do. Keep me updated 😀

    I really thought about this. I think they are very cat like. You have to accept a cat on its terms. Sweet and affectionate on their terms. They have very strong personalities. Stubborn yes but also eager to learn and interact with their owners. Of my birds, I would say only 2 are always sweet. Both are female. Floki is a white bellied hen. She prefers being with my husband and I whenever she can. She’s playful and silly. But, do not try to take something from her. The other is Siggi, a black headed hen. We can do anything with her. Even when she gets annoyed. So far, she’s just been a LOT, of noise. The other birds always want to interact with us but seem to have more fun playing Caique games. I think people are attracted to them because of their beautiful coloration and what they see on social media. Caiques need a lot of stimulation, tons of toys and mental stimulation. I also believe they need a buddy. As you brought up, Caiques are known to “take out” other birds, even larger species. And , lastly they can be loud and destructive. When my birds are out in their area I’m only concerned when they are quiet. Then I know they’re up to no good.

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  Год назад

      I like that, good point. It’s only when they are quiet that something is up!
      I also find that the hens are more gentle…

    I’ve heard them described as the Pitt Bull of parrot breeds. I had some bird experience when I got Buddy but I was told NOTHING about them and at first Buddy was a big challenge in care and attention that even I wasn’t prepared for. I can see why they are very often rehomed when they are not that cute little hopping parrot that many believe them to be.

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  Год назад +3

      Yeah- that's why I try to raise awareness about them. If someone is expecting Napoleon, I dont' think there is room for disappointment. On the other hand, if you think you are getting a cute, funny and all-sweet bird....

    I have a black headed caique named Loki and he is so sweet. he'll groom my eyebrows if I pretend to be asleep. he is a good talker and whistler. though he will nibble on my ears pretty hard but not draw blood. he will be 6 this year.

    Hello, as I saw a caique breeder did put a fake egg near a newly hatched hatchling I am wondering what is the point of putting a fake egg in the nest or near the hatchling. Do you know why this is done ?

    • @ParrotBliss

      I’m guessing it’s to make the parents or baby feel there is company. However, I can’t say. I’ve never felt a need to do so.

    Which bird species is easier to raise? African Grey or Caique? I know both need a lot of social time and i used to have an african grey but then i had to give it away. And now im thinking of getting a caique but need to know if it is as difficult as raising an african grey.

    • @ParrotBliss

      Caique is more challenging because they need more company than AG
