The 3 greatest GKs of 2000s onwards, for me, are Manuel Neuer, Iker Casillas and Gianluigi Buffon. All 3 could be up there for the greatest of all time with the likes of Lev Yashin, Oliver Kahn, Peter Schmeichel, Edwin Van Der Sar.
Honorable mentions to Thibaut Courtios, Jan Oblak, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, and Alisson Becker, who are all in their prime right now, all great with time to stake their claim as the best

Goalies can only use their hands inside their own 18 yard (box). They can leave their box and go into the enemy’s box anytime but they can’t use their hands anywhere else on the field but their own box.
Some keeps come out the box to beat an attacking player who was played a long ball. So they come out (when need be) defensively when their Defense in-front of them are beat. Or offensively at the end of the game. They’ll go up for a corner or free kick and look for a header. If they really need that goal. And it’s crazy when they score! Look up some goalies scoring goals. Very Few teams let their Keepers take free kicks and penalties. And rarely do keepers get subbed during games for another keeper. It’s mostly if that keeper was injured. But if a keeper gets injured or red carded. And the team is all out of substitutions. Then an outfield play will put on the gloves for the rest of the game and results vary. Looking up a video of outfield players playing as goalie would be fun to watch too. But you’ll hardly ever if not never see a keeper go up and replace an outfield player. Being a keeper is a different game! A team is fucked without a good keeper. And you can’t have a good keeper if you have a bad defense. I think I stopped answering your questions. But I can’t say Strictly because some teams now use the keeper as an extra defender. They don’t want you to just stand in goal. And most keepers come up a bit to direct the defense to try and make it more solid since they have a better view of the field. Coaches have the best but goalies can see all the field so they can direct defense and midfielders almost as a captain if they are the captains of the team or not the position has a bit of leadership to it.

@@nightstorm5914 yeah people will use their hands but you’re not allowed too. It’s against the rules and now with Video Assistance Review (VAR) people won’t be able to get away with it. Outfield players use their hands. They aren’t supposed too. I was explaining the rules and yea a few players will look to break and bend
These saves are the reason low scoring games aren’t an issue in football. I love when it is high scoring Don’t get me wrong! And we do get boring games where the ball doesn’t leave the midfield all game but when both teams can create chances but the keeper is just a brick wall infront of net. It’s creates the same magic scoring a goal does. And adds to the game for example a Top team (Italy) will have 30+ shots all game and the smaller team (North Macedonia) will hold them to Zero (clean sheet) and then at the end of the game the smaller team will go down into enemy lines and score a goal with the last kick of the game to deny Italy from going to the World Cup. And all tho I will take all the goals my team will give me. Sometimes it’s crazy we even got the 1. And the 0 for us is a flex! We can be up by 5 but the keeper and the defense still want that clean sheet. And the coach will lose it more when he gets scored on. Than get excited for when his teams scores. Goals are as important as points. 3 points a win. 1 for a draw. 0 if you lose. So if you’re tied in points. They’ll default to who has a better goal deference. So all the goals you scored (GS) minus the amount of goals they score on you(CA) (concede)

So if this was a table (if you don’t know how to read it. A quick vid will teach you. You should learn it so you can understand the context of how the league is standing.) anyways team A and B are tied for 3rd. With 30 points each. So They would have 3rd place go to team B because their goal difference is greater than As. Team A 20- 15 =5 Team B 15 - 9 = 6. So getting beat 7-0 is going to make it hard to fix the difference later on in the season. That’s just some examples that you’ll see.
Keepers do play outside the box! There used to be a position called a "sweeper" who would function as the last line of defense. Sometimes even a player in a more supporting role, a ball-playing defender. The gk now more often than not will now be expected to play this role. Manuel Neuer is a good example of this, ederson, and onana when he was good. These keepers are better w feet and can distribute well.

Buffon is the greatest due to longevity at top level. Also Schmeichel had an unbelievable peak

You legit gotta be a bit crazy to play GK, even the most Iron of Wills will crack under the pressure of the position. Having craziness is like, a combo breaker to the immense weight of responsibility.
For me the in the past decade, the best (or at least my favorite!) two goalkeepers are Neuer and Alisson. Complete modern keepers, from saves to 1v1 to passing/buildup... Before that, probably Buffon!

The ball ⚽️ has to cross the white line completely in order to be call a official goal otherwise it’s still not a goal, it’s called goal line clearance if goalkeeper or defender clear the ball before it pass the white line ❤

Sometimes the Goalie will be ejected from the game (red card) and if the team has no more substitutions a regular player would have to fill in.
