I taught my sister to make sourdough. She lives in Tennessee and it was cold in the house and she didn’t have a proofing button on her oven like mine sooo Her husband came up with the idea of a styrofoam cooler and a mat for keeping chicks warm or incubation with temperature control and got a thermometer to hang on the outside to monitor. It works perfectly. Not only that but saved a lot of money. This was way before I saw this. Innovation is right. If you want to make sourdough as bad as we want to you will find a way.

If you turn on the light of your oven it is the perfect place for proofing dough.

I've done that in the summer but I need something that will keep my risen dough in the loaf pan warm in the winter while the oven gets up to baking temperature. I used to have 2 ovens but not anymore.

You didn’t mention what is the right temperature using this particular proving heat mat?

Didn’t know this even existed. I’m sold. I’ll be getting one for sure. Your website is amazing as well. How about the Challenger Bred Pan. I put it on my Christmas gift list and told my kids to pitch in and get it for me.

Please advice: I plan to bake bread, 2-3 a month. I'm tossed on whether to get the small or large starter jars. The small seems too small to comfortably make & store the starter. The large seem easier to handle although, maybe too much wasted space.

I use my food dehydrator which goes down to 90ºF as my dough proofer, so in the morning its proofing dough and in the afternoon its making delicious Beef Jerky, and that night i'm drying fruit to go into my breads for the next day and thats better than that seed starting mat... I get many uses from a dehydrator but again the "seed mats" are kind of one note wouldn't you say?.......

This is made in China and its not worth a hoot! Very difficult to set the temp and I bought two. One for my mom and one for myself. Neither operate properly. So very disappointed.

Thanks for the warning! I was considering buying this instead of one of the myriad of seedling mats sold on Amazon. They all have bad reviews and so never bought one. I thought the one from Jim would be good quality but I see he sold out to the Chinese…so sad.
