- Dinosaurs roam free due to wayward temporal science and it's up to survivors Regina and Dylan to investigate and ultimately resolve this situation.
Please note, I included the intro though jumped to the fourth level start as I had practiced this gameplay vid on levels four and five of the chosen mapset. It might not be the best edit but that intro was worth including for the creator's efforts alone.
The "Dino Crisis 2 Weapons" mod offers two playable characters with different loadouts, an arcade scoring system to gameplay and an accurate inclusion of items/tools to the games, being adapted for FPS gameplay.
First up, the two distinct characters offer a trade off between their respective individual speed and firepower. For Regina, this means being faster though slightly weaker, offering more of a challenge for the player as they start with a pistol and stungun. Whilst Dylan, is a stronger yet slower choice, definitely an easier start with a shotgun and machete loadout. Given Regina's pistol requires three shots to down a dino to Dylan's one and done shotgun, I opted for Dylan for this gameplay vid.
As for the scoring system, it enables you to earn points, ranking up your combos by killing monsters to buy and upgrade items, ammo expanders and enhancements for sub-weapons from the in-game shop. This being accessible at any time via whatever key you bind it to and navigated via your movement controls and fire controls.
These purchasable items can range from recovery items, power-ups and tools. Given there aren't descriptions for what each item does in this mod, I did have to refer to the forum posts guide, which to it's credit offers a clear, definitive guide on each gameplay feature and item. On a side note, whilst it might take a while to gain points I would definitely opt for the flamethrower. Sure, it's short range but it offers a cheaper weapon option which is highly effective at clearing advancing hordes of dinos.
As with any combo system, the more you kill, the larger your score and the more points you earn, the better your essentially custom arsenal becomes. Fortunately here the combo break from taking damage once present in the original game is removed so you can make your combos chain and soar, a fair design choice.
Additionally, you will earn extra points when you achieve various bonus conditions, for instance, each initial kill gains you 100 pts, whilst a kill chained to a combo provides 300 pts. There's also a no damage bonus which activates after killing five enemies provided you can taking any hits, as well as bonuses for finding all secrets, items and killing all enemies in the level. If you manage the feat of killing every monster without taking a single hit this grants you 10,000 pts.
The "Carnivore Disaster" v1.4 mod adds raptors and T-Rex's with sounds from Dino Crisis 2, ideal for this mod. These are melee focused enemies, being able to quickly close in and score hits in quick succession.
There is also the "Dino rampage" v3 mod which offers an alternative enemy dinosaur set, adding more variety and colorful sprites. These being inspired by the Jurassic Park SNES game and offering a mixture of ranged and melee attack enemies.
"DBP50: Emerald City" is a sixteen-level megawad with the recurring theme of an empty city, retaken by nature and falling into ruin. It does an excellent job of fitting to the aesthetic set by the Dino Crisis 2 video game.
