Bermuda Taxi. Restoration of the Ford Thunderbird Corgi model with a canopy and driver.

The Corgi Bermuda taxi model was created in 1962. The Corgi company also produced the Fiat 500 Nuova Jolly in the same series. Both models had a characteristic canopy over the interior in the form of a convertible. During production, the canopy came in various colors. The model also had a distinctive driver and Bermuda Taxi paper stickers. I was looking for a Ford Thunderbird like this for a long time, because all the ones I came across didn't have a hole in the trunk lid. My copy, of course, did not have a window, which in these models was quickly damaged, and a driver who probably fell out while playing. I recreated this Ford as it was produced in the first series by Corgi and provided it with a copy of the box from that year. Maestro, I always enjoy having you polish the castings with the brass brush. Oxidation and imperfections smooth right out and shine with a high quality casting like this Corgi. After all the considerations with those Pre-War restorations you have done recently, this must have been a relief! The lovely lines on the '55, '56, and '57 T-Birds is gone. I had a Colonial White with Red interior '57 years ago. It was really pretty! Congrats on a lovely custom restoration! Best, Stephen

Oh yes my favorite part of this process. The polishing of the old metal 🙂 really hard to come by one of these where the roof is not missing 😕. Kudos to you sir for your skills and effort. The painting is superb! It’s showroom quality and the driver looks as though he has some hair oil which would be correct for the era.
What I find especially pleasing is that you reproduce the box for each model! I do this too. I have a template/graphics grid and I drop images into it for each model. Many elements of the box are the same so they do not get changed.
