I know it’s been months since you made these tap pants, but I wanted to share a tip when working with silky, slippery fabrics I picked up from Threads magazine. I thought you or your other subscribers might find the info useful for other projects. A few years ago I made my cousin’s wedding dress and it was made with layers of silk chiffon, satin and Chantilly lace. I needed to find some way to manage all that slippery, filmy fabric. You can soak your fabric in a liquid starch and water mixture! Or even straight up liquid starch! After soaking you hang to dry. Iron it when dry. Then move on to cutting and sewing. Cutting the fabric was a breeze! I did both machine and hand sewing on the dress and the stiffness from the starch helped tremendously. My seams laid flat and hardly a pucker. The most daunting task for me was actually washing the starch out of this dress! So much delicate fabric! But everything worked out and my cousin didn’t want to take off the dress! Now I do this with all of my slippery fabrics. Even the silk masks I make to wear during the Covid-19 pandemic because other mask materials wrecked havoc on my skin. Of course I do test on a scrap of fabric to make the whole process doesn’t change the fabric before moving on to my project.

These are just lovely, and I think you did your inspiration justice! That fabric looks so tricky to work with but the end result was totally worth it!

Is the thread that you used, silk? Because I found that I can't get silk thread to work in my machine because it's to slippery to hook around the metal thing in the bottom of the bobbin case. It's very weird. I would've never expected that to happen.
