Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This RUclips channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.
If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.

It was + 7, not + 12 as reported at the end (34:49); overall, very good back 9 (plus 1) - and the first 9 (plus 6 over par), with 'new' clubs and a lot of wind, that was not easy. One of the issues as Rick stated on a pod cast is the actual amount of golf he is playing these days.
A world of difference smacking a ball in the simulator to being on a course, and most importantly actually practicing on the weaker aspects of his game.
It’s like us amateurs playing once a week watching videos and thinking our game will improve automatically

Now I think I can go out and score that ever time I play. Played yesterday carded a 99. 😂 I know how Rick feels. He’s trying to break 75 I’m wanting to break 80. Maybe one of these days it’ll happen. @@jamesthrower3865 I’m in the middle of a set of lessons, when with the pro ball striking is generally very solid, can even get the driver out and hit it nice and straight. Go on the range and I get 70-80% if drives what would be straight/ in play on the course.
Get on The course and the over the top swing ( natural swing) comes back, I can feel myself throwing the arms at the ball. Aaargh
Shot 119, 109 in club championship (26 h cap, par is 70) 😂😂😂 have yet to break 90, but at the weekend shot on second club I play at 95 v par 72 , I get 29 shots so 6 shots better than H cap, but had a 9 and a 7, plus 3 x 3 putts, and one double bunker shot.
My aim this season was to get to 18 or better which my eclectic card score shows I’m capable of, my best gross would be 74 v par of 72.
Just try and take a small win with every round, no 3 putts, is chipping better, out of bunkers in one shot etc.
must be the worst game in the world for those with fragile mind sets. I feel for pro’s whose game goes as it can be chasing circles.

Oh yeah you thought it was great..?!🤔 I got tired of it already at the 14 min mark. Once or twice a video, to put some extra weight or a funny addition to the moment, I understand. But all the time doesn't fit the kind of channel this is imo. But each his own ofcourse.

Been a subscriber for years, so I will start of with that prior to commenting, with what I consider to be some constructive criticism for Rick - someone we all follow and love on YT, because, quite honestly, he is as real as it gets and he has the keen ability to relate to many of his subscribers but not over-editing his content, screwing up like the best of us, and accompanying it with some very colourful, and entertaining dialogue. That said, as someone who works in the social media industry, he is a very smart businessman, and has done a great job parlaying his OG following into different areas of content, sponsorships, and crossover opportunities with other popular channels i.e. Good Good, Finch etc. You will also notice that the frequency of posting content is a lot more consistent and elevated, and this is simply a byproduct of preserving health subscriber growth, and capitalizing on the general growth of both the golf industry, and how the golf industry has evolved into a more mainstream sport, with an affinity to a lot to the newer generations deciding to pick up a set of clubs and hack away at their local course - because what was once an old, stuffy, rich man's painfully boring excuse for a sport, has become a fun, interactive game that can be enjoyed in groups, encourages camaraderie and healthy competition amongst friends and strangers alike. This is big feat, because when you are in the YT game for a long time, you notice a lot of content creators stubbornly refusing to adapt with new trends, for the fear of alienating their original base and essentially jeopardizing what has become not just something they have monetized as a past-time, but their primary source of income. Now, on to the actual golf - now, this could just be Rick getting "fat", and I mean that figuratively, with popularity and recognition within the RUclipsr community,. I also am not a pro golfer, or even an "instructor" as Rick claims, so this is based purely one observation. I will also caveat that a lot of this might be "for the camera.... Rick obviously has a team of folks around him guiding his career and assisting in the day to day content creation in terms of production and distribution across the multiple channels he is a part of i.e. all the social platforms (including evolving within them such as reel/shorts content), sponsorships, apparel, instructor work which I am guessing he has given up in favour of this which I totally get because if you are privy to their compensation for content at his level, and I am, you would really question your choice of career, which I found myself doing daily, but I digress). OK, for the fear of turning this into a thesis which is what I have done, I will actually to get to my initially intended point or the TLDR, you can say. So, unless it is purposely being done to preserve his character of being the everyday, Joe-blow golfer we can all relate to (because, let's one honest, none of us are shooting 60s consistently, and leveraging Rick's content for tips and tricks in improving our game...at least not anymore). So, as part of his evolution, I think the frustration he is building from his game is because he its likely not fitted properly to his equipment. Let's be real, he doesn't pay for anything, and at that level, you have brands chomping at the bit to get you to feature their product line in your content, so he is likely seeded absolutely everything in return for content creation, or simply just product placement, discount codes and all that fun ad filler stuff...but, he should really think twice about always using blades and club specs that are usually reserved for scratch or better golfers. He is technically scratch, or so he claims, but it would be nice to see him swallow his pride and do so, because he seems to be the first guy to laugh at himself, not take it too seriously and publicize a lot of this to his viewers, but I am wondering if deep down, that his ego prevents him from actually regressing in terms of his equipment setup. He's not a 65 year old retiree, but he's been golfing for a long time, so I would guess that he spending A LOT less time practicing, instructing and generally improving his game, because content creation is more than a full time job...especially if you want to remain relevant and continue to make it a lucrative way of living, as it is livelihood dependent. Just a thought, but I think breaking 75 become a lot of more attainable when you're using clubs that are suited for you, and not a tour player.... Cheers! 🍻

Idea for a video " Rick Shiels shoots a 59" basically, you play a round and you rehit every shot you need to, until you shoot a 'scramble' 59. You count how many extra shots you take to see how many over the 59 it took you to achieve the feat.

Just sayin... i break 75 on our home courses using model year 1994 clubs lol. Although i have finally got to the point where i can afford to spoil myself with new(er) clubs. Got a new putter and the Cobra LTDx driver. Still rocking the old big bertha 3 and 5 woods, and the old king cobra oversized irons. Only carry a 56° wedge (aside from PW).
I broke my personal drive record tonight absolutely smashing the driver 370 yards. Needless to say, absolutely love the cobra driver. My previous record was 301 with the old King Cobra 454 comp driver. I want to thank you rick as i watched your "longer drive" swing technique video and have been really drilling that technique to perfection. Ive only been swinging at like 75% while i worry about hitting the club square and straight consistently. My step son finally asked me to just swing as hard as i could and i was absolutely astonished at the result. Breaking my previous long drive by 70 yards is insane. I was hoping to be able to consistently hit good good 330 340 numbers. Obviously now i gotta work on making that contact everytime at 100% but still that drive was insane. Made our front 9 par 5 a really easily eagled hole.
Sorry for the long bragging post! Usually dont.. just still riding that high.
Anyways, live your videos Rick, love all your collabs with good good and your normal extras and the tour pros that come in. Thank you for your instructional videos and club reviews (helped me choose my driver. Always loved cobra but wasnt sure then you reviewed it and Matt Scharff absolutely clobbered that LTDz driver so mind made up). Keep it all up! If you have a 10 year old cobra iron set you will never use again id be happy to buy them from you and seriously upgrade my irons! Maybe i could break 65 at home!
