Who? Hi, I am a Japanese to English translator who does clips of Vtubers, mostly from Hololive, but I'll also do VOMS from time to time. The people in these Vtuber clips do have their own channels where they do live streaming, usually games. My favorite Vtubers are Korone, Rushia & Coco, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the rest.
Why? The Vtuber idea started a few years ago in Japan with Kizuna AI. Now people from all over the world including both Japan and English speaking countries have Vtubers. I was learning Japanese since before this happened, and now I translate.
How? Learn Japanese, Learn a small amount of video editing, learn subtitling, and most of all, learn to code. (Actually most of my video editing is done automatically by code)
What? I translate interesting or funny clips I find while watching Vtubers live. I'm always open to requests and I read most of your comments, so fire away with your suggestions!
Where? The comments are good. You can also go to my community tab to post suggestions and vote in the polls. Just know links are blocked due to spam, so posting a video ID is the best way to make a suggestion.

If I remember correctly, she did a study abroad program in Canada at some point, so it makes sense that she'd be better at English than most Holomembers.

As a former ESL/EFL teacher, Subaru's language skills never fail to impress me. For such a slang-heavy game, she did a great job translating.
It seems like all of the girls who have played this game wind up really liking it.
The experience would be even better if they understood all references. Shame.

@@HY-if9ct IMO, slapstick comedy is the main selling point. Part of the slapstick humor is the references it has
the game was made for comedy, if it wasn't liked, that meant the jokes are too deep or bad
@@mars99 Not just comedy, but largely slapstick. Slapstick is pretty universal, and a good example of it is Mr. Bean, one of the most popular shows in the world.

2 out of the 3 JP girls who played this always get concerned when there's references or even hints of other franchises which makes me wonder just how bad japans copyright law is

let me put it this way: the anime Osomatsu San's first episode is outright BANNED (and even the official dvd doesn't have it) BECAUSE its stuffed with references to SEVERAL anime (such as attack on titan, pokemon, sailor moon and more).
THAT'S how bad it is over there.

I love watching them understand the references. It’s too bad she didn’t call out the Bubble Shield from Halo or Earthbending from Avatar but getting Starcraft and Alice in Wonderland was impressive

the game only needs a better execution on how to be fun
It's a choose-your-own-adventure visual novel more than a game. So in this case "fun" is in the writing

It also has been referenced in several Japanese anime and shows. One instance is the manga and Netflix show, Arisu in Borderland.

I can’t believe someone was saying the bubble shield was from GTA, guess none of her viewers at the time ever played Halo 3 or the later iterations
No, what went wrong with the miscommunication was stream delay. Chat saw the "Wasted" from the earth bender option and typed GTA, so after the delay when Subaru already moved on to the next option, she got confused seeing GTA spam during the bubble shield option. Though they did clear it up by being specific at 9:50 .

@@Kachopper9 Different bubble shield, this one is specifically from Halo. The Sonic one is elsewhere in this game.
@@Kachopper9 The important distinction is Sonic's bubble shield follows along with him. The bubble shield from Halo is stationary, since you can't pick up the generator and have it protect you simultaneously.

I'm sure a lot of people know already, but the Flash option is a reference to the Flash summoner spell in League of Legends. It allows you to blink a short distance away and can be used to go over walls or structures.

I don't know much about Subaru so I had no idea that her english was this good, like she can read it really well and understand most of it as well which is really surprising, I saw other Japanese vtubers play this game with Japanese subtitles, so I was thinking that subaru probably forgot to change the subs and she might not understand the story or the jokes now but I guess I was wrong.
I know that references are everywhere in this game, but it's super neat to learn about what Western Media a streamer over there in the East has consumed. Genuinely surprised me that she got the Alice in Wonderland reference.
