hir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile
Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile
Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile
Mo shoraidh slàn
leat 's gach àit' an téid thu
Is tric mi 'sealltainn o'n chnoc a's àirde
Dh'fheuch am faic mi fear a' bhàta
An tig thi an diùigh no'n tig thu a-màireach?
'S mur tig thu idir gur truagh a tà mi
Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile
Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile
Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile
Mo shoraidh slàn
leat 's gach àit' an téid thu
Tha mo chridhe-sa briste, brùite
'S tric na deòir a' ruith o m' shùilean
An tig thu a-nochd no'm bi mo dhùil riut
No'n dùin mi'n dorus le osna thùrsaich?
Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile
Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile
Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile
Mo shoraidh slàn
leat 's gach àit' an téid thu
'S tric mi 'faighneachd de luchd nam bàta
Am fac' iad thu no 'bheil thu sàbhailt'
Ach 's ann a tha gach aon dhiùbh 'g ràitinn
Gur gòrach mise ma thug mi gràdh dhut
Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile
Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile
Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile
Mo shoraidh slàn
leat 's gach àit' an téid thu
English Translation:
Theid mé suas ar an croc is airde I went up to the highest hill to see
Feach a bhfeic mé an fear a báta If I could see the man of the boat
An dtig tú anocht nó an dtig tó amarach Will you come tonight or come tomorrow?
No Muna dtig tú idir is trua atá mé If you do not come between, it's sad I'll be
Chorus (after each verse):
A fhir a bháta is na horó eile Man of the boat and no one else
A fhir a bháta is na horó eile Man of the boat and no one else
A fhir a bhata is na horó eile Man of the boat and no one else
Ceád mile failte gach ait a te tó A hundred thousand welcomes everywhere you go
Ta mo chroóse briste bruité My heart is bruised and broken
Is tric na deoir a'ruith o mo shuíl e And tears flow from my eyes
An dtig té inniú nó am bidh me suil leat? Will you come today or will I expect you?
No an druid mó an doras le osna tuirseach? Or will I close the door with a tired sigh?
Gheall mo leanann domh gúna den tsioda My love promised me a dress of silk
Gheall é sin, agus breacan riabhach He promised me that and a gray tartan
Fainne óir anns an bhfeicfinn íomha A gold ring where I'd see my reflection
Ach is eagal liom go ndearn sé dearmad But I'm afraid he has forgotten
Tá mo croíse ag dul in airde My heart is lifting
Chan don fidleir, chan don clairsoir Not for the tailor or the harper
Ach do Stuirithoir an bhata But for the navigator of the boat
Is muna dtig tú abhaile is trua atá mé If you don't come, I'll be very sad
The song in that video is performed by Alison Helzer. You should call her name in the description. Her voice is so unique and beautifull. By the way the best version of this old tune.
This is one of my favorite gaelic folk song that I learned from my grandmother sentimental song for me reminds me of childhood memories with her and she used to play scottish music while doing her housework and she would sing along with them
I just love this one! So many similarities to the folk music of Northern Portugal, my home.
That’s very interesting, thanks for sharing that information
And Galicia ! You were once celts alike, bro
Really? Sounds very interesting...

Is it not amazing that you haven't a clue what this lovely girl is actually saying yet the sheer beauty of the song and her pristine pure beautiful voice make such concerns utterly irrelevant. Enjoy such sublime music and singing.
This is the best rendition of this song in my opinion. It is done by Alison Helzer.
I might be mistaken, but listening to her beautiful voice, she's not singing in Gaeilge (Irish language) but in Gaildhig (Scottish Gaelic). With due permission, I'll post the lyrics in Gaildhig:
Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile
Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile
Fhir a' bhàta, 's na ho ro eile
Mo shoraidh slàn

Disclaimer: re-reading myself, I might have altered the right Gaidhlig spelling and mixed it up with Gaeilge spelling. Feel free to roast me/correct me.
Thanks for adding those lyrics, Yes you're correct, there is also a version in the Irish language in the member area link here studio.ruclips.net/user/videoRxL3ruzBb4s/edit
The Irish Gaels brang Gaeilge Gaelic to Scotland and Isle of man many Irish understand the tongue few things change in Scottish and Manx Gaeilge Gaelic due to the saxon chopping it.. Scotland was called picland and pics Irish Gaels named it Albain mac Mc Ó all of Irish gael blood.
@@W-E-A-P gan awa wi yer nonsense.
@@brucecollins4729 says the fella with a irish surname and it's not collins that's saxons watered down version trying to destroy Irish native language it's Ó Coileáin tál . Gaeilge Gaelic was brang to Scotland and Isle of man by the Gael Irish warriors as I said Scotland was called picland and pics was its people spoke pictish wiped out by the saxons Irish Gael called it Albain Native tongue and language of Irish Éire the home of the Gallant Gaels. Gaeilge Gaelic oldest in Europe if not the world.☘️☘️
@@W-E-A-P collins is an anglo-norman name taken to ireland. you think because you change a name to gaelic makes it look old(the scots, welsh could do the same)does not make it old. the pre-fixes mac/mc and o,s entered ireland with the scottish galoglas clans who the irish hired to help fight the normans for them and were given huge tracts of land in ireland in return in the 1200s. i.e macdonald, sweeney.mcniel, campbell , mccabe campbell and more. in scotland macdonald is pronounced mac/mc donnel/donal o,donnell. gaelic most likely entered ireland from scotland it,s called gallic in scotland most likely coming from the gaulish region of europe. irish nationalists adopted the mac and o,s to distance themselves from their anglo-norman roots in the 1800s. the scotti raiding and colonising scotland is also mythical. a tale written by irish monks as late as the mid 1600,s(the annals of the 4 masters) to give ireland an identity. you lot(certainly in ulster and donegal) are scots. i will ask you 3 simple question...from where, when, and how did gaelic/gaels reach ireland. you know for certain(in your mind) they entered scotland from ireland so surely you will know how they got to ireland in the first place.
beautiful song..great voice....love it...!!
Je ne comprends pas les paroles mais cela me touche tellement au plus profond de moi. Je me sens en paix. Merci.
Wunderschön.
Glad you like it
Beautiful song, beautifully sung ❤️ 👍
I study at a little coffee shop in a small town where a lot of the young people are struggling to keep the lights on in our eyes. I'd like your permission to learn and perform these songs at a weekly open mic. There is not profit still I'd like your permission.
You are Incredible!!! I was in 2012. in Baila Alita Kliath... And loved it... Well... Joyce wrote (in Ulysses about My Republic of Hungary too..!!)
Beyond beautiful.
I use this particular song in one of my mindfulness meditations as part of an Addiction Recovery Program I'm experimenting with which incorporates music, poetry, art and journaling along with elements of cognitive behavioral therapy techniques into a system of recovery.. (Using * Personally* not commercially in any way I should add for clarity. I'd never disrespect intellectual/aesthetic ownership for gain without the proper permissions.)
3 months sober and counting.
BEAUTIFUL BEYOND FOREVER !!!
Very Beautiful Music

Thank you for your support and so glad you like it
Love it❤
Merci beaucoup ! ...
Thank you for sharing these songs, it would be great if you could put the names of the singers and/or musicians in the description box as well though!
Agree with you, it is something I must put into all the description songs. It's on my to do list. I forget that not everyone is familiar with the singers.
The singer here is Alison Helzer from Oregon USA. She was just 18 when she recorded this beauty.
Well done👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 🇮🇪🥃Sláinte
Amazing 💚
Hello your voice is beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks
You welcome
The land of my ancestors as green As I imagined. Ireland has no shortage of pure water. Half the country left for America.
Ireland is very green indeed! However, the language you are hearing is Scots Gaelic and not Irish!
@@KingOfHearts901 Is that a dialect of Gaelic? Can the Irish speakers understand Scot's Gaelic?
@@thegospelpeacemakersforum7805
Yes they can. The Irish settled the west coast of Scotland and brought their Irish language with them. This is where Scots Gaelic comes from.
@@zipperzoey2041 no irish settled the west coast of scotland. that,s a tale written by medieval irish monks to create an identity for ireland. it,s written and pronounced gallic in scotland coming from the gauls/galls from europe. if anything it entered ireland from scotland. most likely with the scottish galoglas clans in the 1200s. a kin post plenty links.

I've heard this as an instrumental in some movie, but, don't remember it. A group called La Nef did the instrumental beautifully.
Thanks for sharing that information
I first heard this song on a tv special about 30ish years ago. It was filmed at Wolf Trap. Natalie McMaster was the fiddler, but I don’t remember the singer’s name! It was exquisite.
What country!.. It looks like the cairngorms.
Absolutely gorgeous - everything - music, singing, people, land and seascapes. Is the scenery shot in Scotland or Ireland and is it sung in Scottish or Irish Gaelic? Thanks so much from Australia.
Same question.
It’s a Scottish song
Confused, you list the lyrics for the Irish version but the actual song sounds Scottish, who is the singer?
Her name is Alison Helzer from Oregon USA . For such a lovely young lady her command of Gaelic here is miraculous as is her wonderful voice. She recorded this in 2010 on a solo CD called Carolans Delight aged then just 18.
Thank you
it is indeed a scottish sang
❤
Божественный голос!!!!! Спасибо ❤Привет из России!!! 🇮🇪❤🇷🇺

Thank you for making such amazing music.
I think I've heard another version before-- thought it was called "irivata" 🤣
