    Actually I’ve gotten double yoke from Jumbo eggs pretty often from the grocery store . Once while making a dozen scrambled eggs I got 10 double yokes . I live in America .

    I’ve had several double yolk eggs from my hens but a couple days ago, an egg I bought in the market had a whole egg (shell and all) inside another larger shell! I’d never seen anything like it

    Hello! Another informative and highly entertaining video! Thank you!
    I am happy and lucky when I get a double-yolk, too. Extra protein is nice.
    Fairy eggs are fun especially if children find them.
    Last summer, before I added netting to close the top of our run, I found an unusual egg.
    A wild quail visited my girls and must have had the urge to lay!
    Thank you, Sweet Lady,
    Regards...

    My Gran always loved getting double yolks from her hens, usually the older ones. We'd get triple yolkers on occasion. Those eggs would be super long. Poor hens!

    I've stopped buying supermarket eggs, but a few years ago I bought a box of small eggs (I think it was 12) and apart from 2 they were all double yolkers. I assume these hens must have come into lay! The biggest egg one of our hens has laid was 101 grams. I had a few fairy eggs last year too, probably from our 4 year old hen.

    • @chickensinmygarden
      @chickensinmygarden  3 года назад

      Thank you for sharing your fascinating experiences. What fun to find so many double yolkers. I agree they must have been from hens just coming into lay. I think the first few eggs are probably often too small to make it to the supermarket shelves.
      And big eggs and fairy eggs - people who don't have experience with chickens often don't imagine such things happen 🙂

      As the information showed; because it would be two chicks competing for space and nutrients, one would survive

    • @chickensinmygarden
      @chickensinmygarden  3 года назад +1

      I understood that it was the heavy breeds like the Sussex but several people have commented that they have had double yolkers from commercial hybrid hens too, so it's certainly more about the line than the breed (which is like saying it runs in the family more than being a racial characteristic).

      @@chickensinmygarden I appreciate the response all is not perfect can't see to get the buggers to perch they like the bails of straw I've lined the outer walls. Everybody lays on the inside where the hen boxes are but sleep on the straw bails together. I installed two very nice 1" dowling rods for the perch but they don't use it any thoughts or suggestions. I'm in Michigan and it is winter here burrrrr

    • @chickensinmygarden
      @chickensinmygarden  3 года назад

      Try a wider perch that they can get their feet flatter on then settle their tummies on to keep their feet warm. 2 inches is really about the minimum for large hens. Then of course you have to get them to change. But if they are warm where they are and not soiling the nest box and you're managing to keep the straw clean then I might be tempted to leave them where they are.

    My chickens don't seem to like laying pellets I have tried grinding them still no. I have tried mixing it with scrambled egg is that ok on a regular basis.thanks for your channel

    • @chickensinmygarden
      @chickensinmygarden  3 года назад

      Not ideal on a regular basis as the majority oftheir diet - they would probably be getting too much protein which would be bad for their kidneys but it would be fine for a while.
      What have they been eating, that they prefer to pellets?
      Maybe if they prefer something soft and wet you could add water to the pellets

    • @chickensinmygarden
      @chickensinmygarden  3 года назад

      It sounds like you are feeding them quite a lot apart from chicken pellets. It is possible to provide a balanced diet by making your own but it's quite complicated to get the right amount of protein and carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals for optimum health. I would say that your chickens will probably do best if most of what they get to eat is layer pellets. Just like children do best if they eat mostly good dinners and only a little candy 🙂

    Can I hatch out pullet eggs? I see that they are fertile so can I hatch them out?

    • @chickensinmygarden
      @chickensinmygarden  Год назад

      Yes it's possible. Most people will avoid hatching pullet eggs until the chicken is laying eggs that are about full size for that breed of chicken because small eggs are less likely to hatch and sometimes the chicks are smaller and less healthy. If you can, just wait until a month or so after the chicken started laying. But if small pullet eggs are all you have, there's not much to lose by setting them.

  • @saethman
    @saethman 3 года назад

    Have you tried incubating fairy eggs? I.e will they grow up to be regular-sized chickens or will they remain smaller? (if the latter is the case, then I hope their eggs remains fairy as well, or they might have problems)

    • @chickensinmygarden
      @chickensinmygarden  3 года назад +2

      I haven't tried it but I'm quite sure it would fail. There wouldn't be enough room inside the egg for the chick to develop and not enough yolk to sustain the chick. Just because the egg is small, there is no reason to think the chick would be small, and certainly not tiny enough to fit. It would be like thinking that people who live in big houses are giants and people who grow up in small apartments are dwarves 🙂

    • @saethman
      @saethman 3 года назад +1

      @@chickensinmygarden Yeah, you're probably right. Somehow I thought that the chickens would be smaller, but probably not. Well, the yolk might not provide enough nutrients for them, but that would probably lead to bad side-effects :(

    If double egg will hatch, what happens, please answer this

    • @chickensinmygarden
      @chickensinmygarden  3 года назад +1

      I mention that at about minute 8. It's unlikely that the chicks will both grow to hatching stage and even if they do, they will probably need help to hatch. But if hatched successfully they will just be ordinary chicks.
