Brings back memories. Had the later RD350. Light weight and very quick. Had to be careful with the throttle in the lower gears to keep the front wheel on the road.
My favourite Yamaha colour scheme, purple and white, stunning, only for me having a 1973 Suzuki GT250K in candy apple 🍏 green, the first GTModel colour scheme, the candy apple red came out in July 1973 , my mate bought one and we had a blast together
Think these were R5 in the States, YR5 here, same as the YDS7 250 was known in other markets as plain DS7. I had the 250 and a mate had the 350. They were a bloody revelation in performance - I hadn't passed my test back then and (in the 250 learner limit days) and you couldn't get much faster for a couple of hundred quid secondhand....
If I remember it correctly the 3rd position was parking lights so you could leave on the road and it would have its lights on but no key in. I could be wrong
I was the proud owner of one of these $734.00 plus sales taxes from custom city in Long Beach, California, I had to borrow the money from my mom I was 17 and in the army
Lovely bike best colour had a few jap 2 strokes in the seventies finished off with 750 kettle wish I still had them worth a fortune had a couple of fs1es cannot believe how much they go for now great channel lads iam addicted 👍 😀

And a nice exhaust sound.
An R5 was my daily for a while in the 1980's in So. California. Always looked forward to riding it!

Most in the world called it Yamaha R5 but in the uk we knew it as the Yamaha YR5 with his smaller bro the Yamaha YDS7.
YR5. RD350 without the reed valves.
Very nice
Smart bike
As far as i know the YR5 was a 347cc yamaha. I believe that is a R5A.
Uk naming
Yr5 350 pre rd350
Yds7 pre rd250
Cs3 pre rd200
As3 pre rd125
Or you could have had a B40. Writing was on the wall
YR5 Was the 350cc
YDS7 Was the 250cc
Neutral green ignition light not working, great bike thou, i have its little brother the yds7 250cc .
Nice....but £5,250 ? GTF
