Episode Notes:
1. Captured on real hardware.
2. When I say no Capcom developed games were released on Sega consoles, I mean of course directly made by them. Strider for the Genesis was done by Sega themselves, for instance. Final Fight for the Sega CD wasn't done by Capcom, either. Even Mega Man on the Game Gear was done by a company called Freestyle and published by US Gold.
3. The Japanese versions of many of these games are quite affordable.
Saturn was the place for fighting games, PlayStation for RPGs and the N64 for first person shooters. Crazy times.
Dragon Force 1+2, Shining Force 3 Trilogy, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Grandia, Dark Savior, Shining the Holy Ark, Vandal Hearts, Magic Knight Rayearth, Albert Odyssey... to name a few. Saturn wasn't half bad for RPGs/SRPGs/Action RPGs ;)
Naaaa 😂
@@Chicagomoney86 yessss
@Chaz Starkey how have those 3-D platformers aged?
@@griffgames9538 if you speak Japanese the Saturn can go head to head with the PS for RPG’s. Saturn also had stuff that no one else had. But yeah, for westerners Saturn was the Brawl Box.
These episodes are what makes SLX the man. I just wanna pick up my Saturn controller and play ‘em all.
Compilation episodes are lazy and boring. His fans have already seen this
@@beardsarejustfacepubes8620 this 100%, rehashed episodes are very boring, if I would want to watch a 1 or 2 hour something I would put a fresh movie on netflix.
@@beardsarejustfacepubes8620 some people like them. If you don’t, you have a very easy choice, don’t watch them! You 🤡
Yeah me too the problem is I don't have a Saturn or could I ever afford a Saturn. Who knows maybe one day I'll find one in the trash on accident with an ode then I'll finally get to find out what the system is all about.
This makes me really want Capcom to re-release these games. I know they do sometimes but please we better Capcom game packs
Dear Capcom and Sega.
Make a Saturn mini with this line up.
Signed,
Everyone
In addition to the RAM expansion which allows for more animation frames, there's also the gamepad with its 6 front buttons. Game changer for fighting games.
It always annoys me that the diamond layout became the control standard, and after Saturn (and N64) you always have to buy an accessory "fight pad/stick" to play the famous 35 year old Street Fighter series the right way
The arcade stick was really good too. And the stunner is probably the best light gun up to that point if not ever.
@@gc3k Not to mention some absolutely atrocious d-pads (i.e., Xbox 360 controller d-pad) in generations that followed.
@@spencerstevens2175 100% agreed
Amen
The nostalgia bomb that goes off every time I hear your intro and that “segaaaa” hits me in the feels and transport me to the 90’s if not for a second . Thanks man
All I need is some popcorn to enjoy some Sega Lord X videos. I'm having some chimichangas
Good choice my dude
I love chimichangas
The El Monterey Ones give me diarrhea every time
@@jeffreyonline I love it. Especially El Monterey chimichangas 🌯

I fixed a few pizza rolls and sat back like I was watching a mini movie. Another great hit SLX
One hour of sega saturn!!!! HELL YEAH!!!!
You know you can watch an hour of any of his videos without him making it a compilation right?
I’ve discovered so many things I never knew because of you, SLX!!! You’re one of my go-to sources for ANYTHING game related.
Impeccable and unparalleled content.
Spot on coverage Sega Lord. And they just warmed up… the Dreamcast somehow was even well supported by Capcom. God bless those guys who worked there during those eras. They really delivered amazing content!
Oh Capcom and Sega really hit it off during the Saturn and Dreamcast eras
i know these are just compilations but damn, still very entertaining to watch again
Wow, CAPCOM on the Saturn... this is gonna be a hell of a great video!
Thanks for all the amazing stuff u bring to us, Sega Lord X!
X-Men vs Street Fighter was the first of many import games I got through NSCX between 1997-1999. I guess that really distorts my memory of the Saturn, because I had lots of great games to play long after I got bored of my N64.
Vampire Savior is probably my favorite import of all the great Saturn imports!
Excellent chronological walkthrough of Capcom’s great support of the SegaSaturn. A few minor details you missed:
3:19 Hanako-san ga Kita!! happens to be Takumi Shū’s very first game. He would go on to become much more famous for the Gyakuten Saiban (Ace Attorney) series.
12:11 This mahjong game was the last software released for the 3DO in Japan. The 3DO version had been announced (and probably completed) a long time prior, but it seems Capcom waited to finish the SS & PS ports in order to release all versions simultaneously in June 1996.
32:46 Vampire Savior on the Saturn has another outstanding feature: it actually combines the rosters from all three arcade versions of the game (Vampire Savior, Vampire Hunter 2, Vampire Savior 2). CPS2 boards did not have enough memory space to feature all 18 characters so they had to split different roster configurations in three different versions. But thanks to the CD-ROM’s space, they could all fit together on the Saturn, which makes it an (even more) amazing port.
You forgot to mention that all the dark stalkers and the vampire saviour titles are all released outside japan officially called Capcom Fighting Bundle, I have it for PS4 and it's brilliant. How on earth did Sega Lord X not know about this title is beyond me.
IMHO, the best version of Darkstalkers 3 with Darkstalkers Chronicles. Even the last fighting bundles by Capcom only offer the CPS2 versions
@@MuhammadAli-xw4yc This video is a compilation of two of his older videos which was released way before the Capcom Fighting Bundle was announced.
@@MegaShingo97 , Thanks for clarifying and correcting homie. Hey do you know about the capcom stadium 2 update which is free? I wonder if it's separate from the darkstalkers capcom collection?
@@MuhammadAli-xw4yc No i didn't know about that update but i think it will be separate from that darkstalkers collection.
Tbf the Saturns lack of transparency was an issue in other games lol. I love the Saturn but the versatility of the PS1 didnt help things for Sega at that time, with of course the strong brand presence like you mentioned, bias etc. but part of that was Segas fault for screwing up so hard in the west with the 32X and the Saturn launch etc. so part of that uphill battle was very much Sega reaping what it had sown.
Capcom and Japanese Saturn was such a powerful combination. Such good times looking thru the back of Diehard Gamers magazine for upcoming Saturn Japanese releases...
The reason Capcom supported and invested in the Saturn(as well as the Dreamcast) so much back then was because Capcom was also an invester in Hitachi. The Cx4 Chips that were used inside the 'Megaman X trilogy' games plus 'Street Fighter II: The World Warrior' on Super Nintendo were manufactured by the same company helped Sega manufacture the Saturn and Dreamcast.
I love this I'm just getting into the saturn and it's so much fun learning about new games and SLX giving us that great content and knowledge!
Capcom on SEGA Saturn was beastly! I just found your channel. I’m a subscriber. Love!❤
Street Fighter Alpha 2 was damn near perfect on the Sega Saturn. That port was the reason I was able to become a challenge to other players when I visited the arcade.
Amazing port, I preferred the different resolution on the Saturn that made the sprites fatter, I feel like the games looked better than even the arcade that way
I’m a huge fan of the Capcom marvel fighters, I grew up on those for the Saturn.
I like how the zombies bleeding on the floor in the saturn version of resident evil is much more noticeable than it is in the ps1 version
You and gamesack are the 2 best by far
Can’t wait to watch this video fully. I just got here as soon as I was notified.
I have a soft spot for 90s Capcom . Mostly because of games like Resident Evil , Street Fighter 2 , Darkstalkers & Dino Crisis on the PlayStation.
But I wish I could have played the Sega Saturn version of these games especially Resident Evil on the Saturn so I could play the Battle game on that version.
I have never played the Arcade perfect ports of Street Fighter Alpha & X-Men vs Street Fighter.
Great coverage as always Sega Lord X you are really got me wanting to get a Saturn so I could play X-Men Children of the Atom . I love that game 😃
They kept it up on the Dreamcast as well, with Third Strike, Powerstone 1+2 and Rival Schools Project Justice along with Code Veronica and a few others. Once Capcom started supporting Sega they showed out pretty hard on their consoles.
There's an arcade perfect port of Alpha on every current console and Steam
Hey SLX ... not sure if you played it. But if you want every Capcom Arcade Beat em up. Capcom released "Capcom Beat em up bundle" on the XBox one (series) and PS4(5) last year. 100% perfect arcade ports of Dungeons and Dragons, Final Fight, Warriors of Fate, Armored Warriors, King of Dragons, Knights of the Round and Battle Circuit.
Capcom also released a Street Fighter bundle that includes all of the Streetfighters 1 through 3.
These bundles is right up your alley if you haven't gotten it already. They are all direct ports of the arcade versions.
Funnily enough, I had already seen all of these on one of your older videos but still watched most of this upload with glee. I definitely have to thank you as someone who grew up in the 80s but only played or owned (in what seemingly is) a fraction of the games you have posted about over the years.
Once this “shipping issue” between Valve and FedEx clears up, I’m seriously turning my Steam Deck into a retro handheld. There’s literally years worth of games (and a ton of weird Arcade or Japan only games / spin-offs) I’m so ready to play.
I got a notes long doc of pretty much games I want replay and a ton from your vids. I can’t thank you enough!
Now all that’s stopping me now is a paid off but undelivered $700 device “lol”.
Cyberbots is what a Gundam fighting game should’ve been
I'd love you to do a similar one for Psygnosis on the Saturn! Such a fascinating history, especially with the unreleased games.
Capcom is a great company im glad to see another facet of their creative genius
The Saturn is my all time fav system...1995 was my favorite year in gaming, followed by 1991 & 1998
1998...So good.
90’s overall is when many of the best games ever were made. Easily the best decade for being a gamer.
@@dewback88 yes yes yes lol- I was 11yrs old in 1995 and I was super happy! VF 2 totally blew me away!

Capcom and SNK are Segasaturn's VVIPs
My favorite Capcom game on Sega saturn is actually the dungeons and dragons collections. Perhaps the best beat'm up game I've played to this day.
They released it on physical for ps3 which is great as its cheaper and doesn't have the loading issues.
@@brendanroberts1310 yes but I don't like the Ps3 controller for 2d games
@@drunkensailor112 The Saturn USB controller could be plugged into PS3, used in SF. I remember having a brutally unfair advantage over my roommate back then, him using stock Sixaxis d-pad. ;
Very cool video. I was a N64 kid but have always been fascinated by the Saturn. It was so poorly marketed from what I remember from that gaming era. Playstation was so huge it seemed to get the most attention and support. I love hearing about the Saturn and all the games it had.
Yes me2😊
Wow what a treat to watch great video and trip down memory lane, thank you SegaLordX
All I want from RUclips is SEGA Lord-X making videos about SEGA!
Awesome video dude. Between Capcom and SNK converting titles to Saturn and supporting the RAM cartridge, IMO the Saturn was a must-own console. It still is!
Thanks for this. Many good recommendations.
People hated on street fighter the movie because the game was bad. However after seeing what a mess the arcade was, capcom decided to take things in hand for the saturn port. So they took all the art assets that were produced for the game (sprites, backgrounds, sounds, etc) and pasted them onto the SF2T engine. The result is that you have a game that plays nothing like the original SF2:The Movie game and almost identical to SF2T.
Na, people hated on the movie because the movie was bad. Have you seen the first Mortal Kombat movie? Fucking way better than the Street Fighter movie. But the Street Fighter games are better and that’s what counts.
You’ve been on a roll lately my Guy..keep em comin’! 🔥🔥
I didn't even grow up playing Sega consoles, in fact I didn't get the regular opportunity to play one until my best friend brought his Dreamcast with him when we moved to university. Even still I thoroughly enjoy your videos, they're so well made and interesting. Currently my favourite RUclips channel
In Sega Lord X's case, I prefer the shorter format because of how dense the videos are. Each video is jampacked with information related to a precise topic. These are not documentaries, these are newspaper articles, including in Mel's excellent writing style. In a newspaper article, you go grab the info. In a documentary, you try to get the full picture. For example, how did the Shinobi Team work. That is your documentary. Bearing in mind a documentary takes a awful lot of work, I am very happy with the weekly newspaper article format. If anything, like all Sega fans, I am pleasantly surprised how Mel has stayed so consistent in the great quality of his awesome work over time. That is some achievement.
Fun thing about ports like Mega Man 8 and X4 is that they actually had a couple tweaks despite the worse sound quality and lack of transparencies. Mainly in things like background heat haze effects, or how X4 got songs with altered intros and loop points. 8 on the other hand was a special version with secret Cut Man and Wood Man boss fights and a new Tengu Man theme, effectively being the more complete package.
Wow a whole hour, nice! Thanks SLX
Love the Saturn & Capcom.
Killer combo...
Capcom rules!!! Nice upload SLX I *will* catch you next time
There's a reason why Capcom released a game based on Guyferd... It was because it was a Capcom co-creation with Toho. They even put Megaman X3's opening and Resident Evil's Ending on the series soundtrack disc.
awesome games, they maintained the highest quality
This dude is good. One of my favorite channels.
i remember i preorder X-Men vs Street Fighter in 1997 is still have i back to to play again i got sony pvm monitor
Capcom realized just how good the Saturn was when it came to 2D and understandably jumped in.
Dayummmm we got a long one today I luv it
Thank you for making these episodes with such love and care. I have always been a PlayStation fan boy I did enjoy the Sega Dreamcast and some of his wonderful games. I always thought that the Sega Saturn was a weak inferior machine, but it wasn’t until I started watching these episodes that I really discovered what the what the Saturn was really capable of doing. It’s incredible Japanese library, it’s multiple Shoot them ups and quality fighters was more than enough for me to fall in love with. I do have an original Saturn however it’s really expensive to collect games for the consul as it is now.
36:31 what is that Lion doing bro?
SF Alpha 3 is probably the best 32 bit game if someone cares for fighters.
Yes😊
Keep these compilations coming!
@sega lord x , this is just what I needed!! TY!🤘
Oh man, that Gamefan story is triggering. I hate how gaming media at the time seemed so intent on killing the Saturn. Such a waste.
A lot of great work, and you will have to continue with Capcom on Dreamcast... :)
Thank you
I can only expect an SNK and Saturn at some point now
This was really fun to watch. Good to see capcom gave saturn support, by releasing alot of good games, even though alot of them were never released in the US.
35:26 to 35:37 Thanks for that info.👍
From 1997, when the Sega Saturn finally had the 4mb expansion cart, and then on the Sega Dreamcast in 99-01….. that brief window in console gaming history … I genuinely believe served as the ABSOLUTE CULMINATION APEX of BOTH CAPCOM & SEGA.
From the arcade perfect ports of CPS-2 fighters, CPS-3 fighters, Naomi fighters, in addition to all the other incredible Capcom titles on those consoles, I genuinely believe it was the collaborative, culmination APEX for both companies.
If only they could have disregarded people like Bernie Stolar, who stupidly proclaimed the market for 2d games was dead in North America….. we could have had THE PUNISHER, ALIEN VS PREDATOR, and many other of the Japanese exclusive ram cart titles here in the USA, helping the Saturn sell way more units.
None of the 3d Street Fighter (SF4, SF5, etc) or marvel versus titles (mvc3, mvci) that were released for consoles since, have bested what was on the Saturn and Dreamcast. Some impressive Capcom games in other genres have come since … but for what I loved about Capcom, nothing beat the Dreamcast & Saturn
Nintendo and Capcom are leaving MONEY on the table. There are so much games from The Saturn that would translate perfectly on the Switch.
Sweet vid mate, one of your best.
These games are the reason i love my Saturn and it will always be my second favorite system next to my Turbografx-16.
@Vesper F cosmic fantasy2, dragon slayer, cadash, dracula x, beyond shadowgate and the dungeon explorer games to name a few.
I was a proud owner of Street Fighter The Movie on the Saturn.
This awesome keep up the good work!
Awesome thanks segalordx great work Sir
Great video as always.
But why when it comes to MSH vs SF people never state the obvious about what makes this title stand out from the rest in the vs series.
The announcer he says every person in the game finishing move except for Cyber Akuma how is this looked past lol 😆
This is why we love you 😍 ❤️ 💕 SLX Keep up the beautiful work my brother.
Capcom really loved the Saturn esp with that expansion slot their Fighting games were perfect
The Saturn was great for playing fighting games. Played the hell out of children of the atom and street fighter alpha. The Saturn controller was far superior for playing these types of games.
Capcom to their credit supported Sega's consoles to the end.
Always some good stuff Lord X
I was aware of most of these but some I had no idea existed like the fmv games
I never got to own these fighting games growing up. But I love Vampire Savior and have been playing it on the Capcom Fighting Collection and Fightcade. One thing I'll say though is that the Saturn controller is still the best for directional pad fighting. I don't have an original but retro-bit makes a fine replica and my fighting game skills improved just by changing to that controller.
Really appreciate that you call out old game reviews for being full of BS
I think the bar was a lot lower in the past to fake like you were a game expert
I'm so glad Warriors of Fate 2 was released on the belt action bundle for PS4. I had that game on saturn once upon a time and it's one of my favorite beat em ups
As a SEGA and Capcom fan like myself, this is a really good complication. I mostly played Mega Man (despite being a challenging game) and Resident Evil in the 90s era on PlayStation 1 (mostly played on PS1 Emulator and it runs well). Not a fan of Capcom's fighting ones because I suck at fighting games due to combos that are really difficult. But at least Capcom has a beat 'em up game and that was Final Fight. Still love Capcom to this day and a huge fan of it. ❤
The mvps for Saturn for sure. My only issue is that they went lazy with the Capcom generation games. They could’ve easily ported some of their arcade beat ‘em up ips on those collections if they wanted to instead of putting crap like 1942 and 1943 and charging full retail for it
Great video even tho I was born in 1991 and my first game systems were the play station and n64 I always had a love for sega when I was a kid my dad had a sega genesis and I bought my first dreamcast back in 2008 off ebay when I was in high school
that Rooster game has a similar vibe to a Run'n'gun version of Magic Sword
I noticed when ever Sega lord X shows footage of Street Fighter Alpha 2 and 3 he always uses Evil Ryu.
Hearing SLX throw shade at DieHardGameFan may be one of the funniest things I've heard all day. There were things to like about that magazine, but the backstage shenanigans are almost more interesting then the actual product that was being produced.
Capcom is the reason I own a Saturn. I was buying a Playstation and I picked some games. the guy at the counter (who was playing Street Fighter Alpha 2 on Saturn) noticed they were all Capcom Fighters. he told me all those games and games like them were better on Saturn. Growing up a Nintendo Kid I didn't think about the Saturn. it also ended up being cheaper and I got more games 😁 that day I got the Saturn, X-men, SF Alpha 1 & 2, Night Warriors and SF the Movie 😂. I did get a Playstation, but not till Resident Evil 2 came out
God bless that cashier for directing you towards the Sega Saturn.
@@PaperBanjo64 the guy was awesome. Also told me about imports and introduced me to cyberbots
@Pixels & Creatures I'm just getting into Saturn, this channel actually introduced me to it.
Most capcom fighters played amazingly well on the saturn cause of the ram expansion if im not mistaken
All Capcom fighters played well on the Saturn unless you want to pin point some slowdown in marvel super heroes, they were all amazing ports even street fighter the movie played good
Yup more frames of animation same for SNK games too
And the Japanese Saturn controller d-pad was/is remarkable for 2D gameplay, including all fighting games, platformers, shooters.
@@griffgames9538 I guess that’s why it’s also modded to work as controller for neo geo
I still can't understand why SEGA didn't release these great arcade titles in USA and Europe. They have very little dialogue to translate, they still look great and they are the best versions. I played most of them on Playstation, as they were the only available ones in Europe, and they were very popular, which proves that the interest in action games was still there.
Saturn deserved better support and a full lifespan. SEGA would triumph today with all the indie 2D games, which are arcade games at heart, and action online games, like Outrigger. I hope they find the neccessary funds and talented people for a full comeback, even if it looks improbable.
I can still remember seeing X-Men Children of the Atom for the fit time in the arcades. It really was a dream come true
Dude! You have been killing it lately!! Awesome job!
Is Final Fight CD not a Capcom title?
Outsourced. Great version, though.
I'm loving the hour long complications SLX has been uploading!
Ohhhh I didn't expect the Nick Fox blue shadows review to make an appearance!
This video is taking me down memory lane. I was 10 when I got my Saturn and picked it up over the PlayStation because I thought the pad was better suited for Street Fighter Alpha. No regrets.
... as long as you didn't have the initial US Saturn pad. Ugh.
@@griffgames9538 I did lol. I eventually got the newer pad and an arcade stick.
ANY fighting game capcom made in the 90s is 100% better on the saturn. ALL of them. NO exceptions.
Theres a reason why Xmen vs street fighter and Marvel vs street fighter, and all those other games are so much more expensive on the used "retro" market in Japan on the Saturn. they are objectively superior in EVERY way.
53:46 Good to see Guy and Cody working together again
I’m honestly surprised Capcom even supported the Saturn as long as they did. Considering how much of a nightmare it was to even make games for it, it’s amazing Capcom did that much.
Children of the atom was my GAME!
Capcom games on the Saturn is like having wine baguettes and cheese all together as the perfect combination
The Cover art on games back then were always better in Japan.
Didn’t know final fight for sega cd wasn’t handled by capcom. Good work for third party
