I will probably not go large format but now I know more about that medium than before, so thanks for that. James Brown was billed as "The Hardest Working Man in Show Business." You have to be the hardest working man in the photo business. You have what I consider the three important character traits: smart, hard working and easy to get along with. You will continue to succeed and at higher and higher levels. It's great to watch it.

I know photographers who have freezers full of very dld film, like yours ,roll and sheet film that shoots like new.
Dad's are handy for jobs like yours.
I think Horsman makes 4x5 field cameras made of carbon fiber, very light. I think they are available on the used market. But they might still be expensive.
Great job, Matt! We learn lots from our mistakes, if we let ourselves.

    Hi Matt✌
A lot to lug around with the two old ladies. The Adlerauge Tessar is really something, I still have it but with 12 aperture blades, great video as always Matt, thanks for showing, still have old films that are nearly 50 years old or more. Let's have a look 👌👌

    Hello, Matt
I always enjoy watching your channel. My primary cameras are all digital Leica’s at this time. However, your recent videos about 4X5 film cameras have re-awakened my interest in large format. About twenty five years ago I purchased a beautiful new Ebony SV45 along with a 135mm Rodenstock lens. It’s been sitting in a glass cabinet staring at me for many years. Well, thanks to you it’s now out and stretching its lovely bellows again. One of my favorite films years ago was Poloroid type 55 positive/negative instant film which was still available for purchase at my local camera store. I’m not as enthusiastic about the crop of new Poloroid films. Anyway, I just recently loaded 10 sheet film holders and look forward to getting the Ebony back out there again where she belongs. I just hope my brain can deal with staring at images that are upside down and backwards after all this time.

Hi William, so nice to hear that I could inspire you to dust off your 4x5. I do love to share my photography journey and despite this not being a Leica I hoped to inspire a few of the regular viewers! Enjoy your camera!

Photos look nice. I wonder about some blurriness resulting from the camera wobbling when relying on removal of the lens cap as a shutter? (Although I guess one could see that with some streaking in the highlights.) The bird sounds were very pleasant!

    • @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom
      @MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom  3 месяца назад

Thanks, I think the failed second frame might be me leaning on the tripod when focusing (as it was low down). The 5th and 6th were purely too shallow depth of field at the fixed f2.5. I continue to learn!

I like my Intrepid 4x5 (3d printed model) but it's not a real field camera in the sense that it doesn't lock really well and when placing the film holder in, more often than not, something goes. When applying front standard mouvement, it is crucial to, once focused, that everything stays put.
Nice to see you shooting something else than beautiful girls 😅😂

Nice Jason, sorry to hear that it's still "not perfect". I find the choice of tripod(+head) makes a huge difference too regardless of the camera. (Even with my solid Graflex I was getting movement)(Not in this video). Yes it was quite refreshing to not have to rely on a model. I was enjoying the nature and birds singing!

Knees : yes , I gave up cycling from 2 Left Knee replacements , no more running in the woods near ocean .... and at 63 I feel everything. Having lighter kit is important now for me. I shoot Leica M film , F3 , Rollei , and 2 4x5's EBONY and a Crown Graphic , I do have SONY mirrorless , but an\m looking at either an M11 Mono or the SL 3 Lieca.
Matt .. I am not sure what is better , an M11 or the SL 3 , I have lost interest in digital although that IS what most people want now.

..and they say cycling is good for you! (I know running is known to be more damaging). Still a nice camera line-up! As I always say, SLs if use an EVF, Ms if you dont. Ms or street/ docu. SLs for studio/ portraits/ bad weather..

Did you build this camera? I have seen it in other of your videos but I guess I wasn't paying attention. Sorry! When I restarted film photography, due to finding my old Nikon cameras and your videos, I thought the 15 year old film in my cameras and the unused old film I had was spoiled. I threw it all away. Now I feel pretty bad for not getting it developed. I might have had some precious photos. I have learned quit a bit from you. Thanks!
