It’s useful for all interviews with a tweak here and there. I am a mechanical engineer and a recruiter sent me some interview tips. Some of these Chandoo has mentioned including STAR, were on there
This was a great video & reminder, Chandoo! Especially the reminder to not be too hard on ourselves. Loved the family guest stars! Thanks for the virtual mentorship!
Just keep going. My first job I found after about a year of searching. Currently I am also jobless since May 2020 and looking for a mechanical engineer position near Pittsburgh I will not give up and neither should you. It will happen, especially with these tips
brilliant stuff Chandoo and your family contributions ... I had a year secondment offer and my option given was Chennai :D - Yes I used STAR - really focusing on the outcome the benefits that were realised. After every interview the first thing i would do is write down all the questions i was asked to learn from experience. My CV is written in an achievement style similar to STAR answers but condensed .
Flexibility is a sticky point. I think being upfront is important. Honestly depends on your circumstances. Especially harder when you are a woman with a young family. Fortunately one good thing from COVID is flexible working hours and location so now it does make it a bit easier.
Super Awesome video, the point that we work alot to say in the interviews but it's much better when we could show the work and talk more on that. Makes a lot of sense to me.
You teach so smoothly and beautifully.....🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 You and your wife both are just amazing people 🎉🎉🎉 thank you sir..... Alot of respect and love from India
STAR concept is very useful. I have been using it unknowingly during meetings with prospective customers. However, I never knew about this terminology. I know about SMART goals though.
Iam giving interviews since last two months..got two jobs but not thinking about money only ends up in low paying jobs. I think we should negotiate salary also when it comes to interviews and when they ask you how much are expecting
Articulate, Informative, Inspiring, revealing, thought provoking, realistic, impressive, insightful, and appealing. Thank you very much,. You have explained in an excellent manner.
Thanks for sharing your experience. great videos.. please keep it up. I get more clarity while watching your videos and like the way you explain things in a very relaxed manner...Looking forward for many videos like this.
May I recommend the viewers to play "Happy Classical Music: Mozart, Vivaldi, Beethoven" on low volume as this video plays? its enhances the video and mood for those of us who feel a nervous about being interviewed like me😫 thank you for your great videos
Hey bro! Hope you're doing well, and thanks so much - your videos have been really helpful. I’m currently applying for jobs every day, sending out 70 to 80 applications daily. I'm from the U.S., have completed my Master’s degree, and am looking for a full-time job. Despite all the applications, I haven’t received a single call back yet. give me some tips on it bro thank you in advance
good advice. i def feel it's a chance for me to suss them out as well. after all, they will be paying me for my work. my current job had a great process. at the time, i wasn't sure i needed to look yet. so i only applied to jobs that didn't waste my time filling information into their HR interface. i was leaning hard on old school resume. and my boss got 110 applications for this role from which he chose the ~10 best to phone interview and of those he'd pick the top ~3 to give data and see what they did with it. i'm not super cocky, but i know i'm good enough and different enough that i'd get the job if i got to the final 3. i was already in top 10% at that point. just hearing how he was testing potential hires made me want this job more. and the funniest part is i had changed my generic career identity on top of resume from data/sales analyst to brain conservationist. which is how i ended up on the top 10. hahaha. for a quirky person to find a quirky company, that worked. wouldn't do that if i was for sure hard focused seeking.
Thanks for the tips. One thing I have come across at an interview is that often the interviewer itself is not knowledgeable enough about the subject matter we discuss. For example, when speaking about Power Query/Power Pivot/Power BI very often it goes right over their heads! I cannot explain a value addition I have made via these tools where the systems are not that great. You run into blank faces when you try to explain them and how useful they are! The tools in Office 365 Excel like LET functions are no go areas!
You have amazing videos! I’m new to excel & can’t figure out how to extract my staff only from a large dataset. The file has 175K rows & staff in 3 columns. Can I extract just those rows with my team in the 3 columns?
Hi, Am coming from Manufacturing Background with 14 Years' experience. I Am fascinated with Data Analytics. Had created Dashboards & Programming in Advance Excel for our Production Operation Streamlining, Inventory Management & Production Planning. I would like to move my Career to Data Analytics. Can you please guide me on what will be the best path to Proceed?
Try looking for any data jobs in your industry / current workplace. This is the best way to transition. Also reach out to your colleagues (both current and ex) and see if any of them can refer you for a job in data / tech. If nothing works, apply for data jobs outside with a strong cover letter or find a consultant / agent to represent you. All the best.
Great Delivery Sir I have made some mistakes you mentioned in the video, Now I can see clearly. Sir how can we show our works if its from our previous companies.? Should we have some dashboards build already even if we are going for an associate role?
For my interviews, I try to have a couple of examples & I excerpt the information. Meaning I replace any specific information for the company (e.g., employee names). It is easier to walk interviewers through a visual example sometimes.
Dear sir i am working in the garment manufacturing unit and i received orders for stitching and want to track all garments orders separately on excel in which included 1.order making of received clothes 2.Customer details in order 2. give a specific number to the order automaticaly 3.recived time & completed time
And please enlighten how we should apply the STAR technique if we are a fresher and learned Power BI through tutorials or while preparing for the Certification.
For most of us we're breaching company confidentiality if we use examples from our work place and show it to a recruiter/future employer. And if I were an employer, I'd think seriously about hiring someone who didn't think twice about showing me confidential info. That might work for a contractor but not an employee. Not particularly good advice, very unprofessional.
Hello sir, I have never faced any interview in my life. I am graduated in 2022, Since after passing out , I learned technical skills on EXCEL SQL SAS POWERBI TABLEAU. I fell very nervous to atttend any interview, how to prepare for my interview and how should i remove nervousness for interview.
Hi Chandoo, thank you for the valuable insights, I can surely relate to couple of the highly mistakes, especially being hard on myself. I have an interview scheduled where in the core area will be about my experience with a BI tool. I haven't done any heavy handed work with it like scripting or such, so how can I face such interviews where they require you to be an SME, but you had been a user throughout?
Thanks Sreekanth. Why not be honest and tell them what you did in the previous role, how you can contribute in the new role. As a previous user of the reports, your perspective and ideas can be very valuable when you "switch" sides.
I am going to have a junior workforce analyst interview. I have some experience working with SQL and MS Excel from my bachelor. Could you give me some tips or even anyone know how this interview gonna be like? There will be 2 parts the first is the interview and the second a 30-minute test in Excel, SQL and Math Logic, using multiple choice questions.
That depends on the policy. If I am interviewing, I would request you to make it without chatgpt help. But I also want to see what your process is and how you think.
Tip: you don't pass a serious interview with interview techniques. You only pass by showing knowledge of your field. If you don't have those skills and you pass anyway, then your new employer doesn't care about skills... welcome to hell in which you will be greeted by many clueless co-workers. ;-)

That depends. Sure try it. But carry a few print outs or even your laptop so you can actually demonstrate rather than show some screenshots.
