  • Lydiah Nyambura Gitachu is an award winning actress and multi nominee for both stage and film.She began her career professionally in 2001,performing stage plays for high school students at the national theatre.She then moved to Phoenix Players ,the only repertory theatre in East Africa in 2002.That was the defining year of her career because that's when she did her first tv commercial'Always',performed in the internationally sponsored play'Winds of Change' and her debut in a tv series'Reflections' that appeared on KBC.
    She has starred in numerous award winning movies like, The First Grader, Kidnappet, From A Whisper, Unseen Unsung Unforgotten and numerous MNET movies. Her most recent work is the Japanese sponsored movie, The Lion Standing In The Wind,Kidnapped and Cia Mucii Ti Como.
    She has been in various local and international tv shows which include 'Reflections', KBC(2002), 'Tahidi High', CITIZEN TV(2004), 'Higher Learning' as Dean Dasilva, NTV and 'Santalal' as Nurse Janet, CITIZEN TV, to name but a few.In 2008, she did her first international show with the BBC ,acting in a lead role as 'Grace Matiko' in the series,Taking The Flak. In 2010,she was cast in the tv show, 'Sommer' for a Danish tv series. She has also been in five tv commercials and recently a BBC informmercial where she showed her skill as a method actor. Her most current show is as ‘Redempta’ in the show ‘Kina’ on DSTV.
    She has been in over fifty plays todate. Locally,she has been in various Shakespeare plays with Phoenix Players and in 2010, she travelled to The UK to perform as a 13-year-old boy in the play 'Burn My Heart', based on a book written by the award winning writer, Beverly Naidoo. The play toured The UK and Scotland.She travelled again to London in 2012 to perform the play'Wanawake Wa Heri Wa Windsor(Merry Wives Of Windsor),at The Globe Shakespeare Theatre during the Globe Shakespeare Festival.She has also perfomed a play at The Kerala Festival in India and her most recent stage performance was in the play, 'Kaggia', written by the award winning writer, John Sibi Okumu. Her performance as 'Wambui' earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a play two years in a row.
    OTHER AREAS
    Lydiah has hosted karaoke in various clubs within and outside Nairobi, she has also directed plays for various theatres in Nairobi, trained upcoming actors in workshops, and participated in Radio Theatre for KBC and Learning By Year for Deutsch Wella is an online show in Africa. She has also done numerous radio commercials and trained BBC journalists and others within Nairobi on voice exercises to improve productivity.
    AWARDS
    In 2009,she won a kalasha award for her role as 'Neema' in the movie, Unseen Unsung Unforgotten as best supporting actress. She has also been nominated severally for the same awards, Riverwood Awards, and Sanaa Theatre Awards.
