Thank you for sharing this video. I worked for Reeve Aleutian in Unalaska / Dutch Harbor as the Ramp Lead / Lead Fueler . I am actually in this video loading cargo up the belt loader.

In 1971, a neighbor who was a mechanic for Eastern Airlines once took me and my father to his workplace at Washington National Airport. It was late at night and we walked all through the maintenance hangers and some of the parked planes. Eastern had a spare Lockheed L188 in a hanger there for times when the weather was so bad that jets couldn't fly. On those days, Eastern rolled out the Electra and used it in passenger service.

This is great. In 1965 I flew on one of these Electras from New Orleans to Houston. I sat in the same seat position and had an excellent view of the Mississippi river as we departed. It was a fun ride and I will never forget it.

Thanks for a wonderful video, I love the L-188 she is a marvelous aircraft worked with them for 12 years both passenger and cargo, with TAN and SAHSA airlines as well, we had two cargo versions and two passengers versions, two of them HR-SAW and HR-TNL were loss in tragic accidents but the HR-TNN went to Argentina Navy and HR-SHN is stll flying for Airspray in Canada, I truly miss those ALLISON engines sounds, great memories :)

A flight onboard the Reeves Aleuthian Electra.
(coincidence you where seated next to the same propeller that had ditached from engine 4 in mid flight on RV008)
    Good Video! Very Scenic!

When I was four and five years old, Eastern Airlines was the dominant airline that flew out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport in the 1960's. They had a huge fleet of these Electras, and it was my favorite aircraft in the airline's whole fleet because it had props. I love watching the props spin, and they are especially interesting to watch on the TV or computer screen. The 60 cycle flicker creates optical illusions of the props spinning slower or backwards. I love watching and listening to the engines fire up, especially when they reach full idle speed. That's when the "box fan" sound is added to the whine of the jet engines that spin the props. It's like a huge surge of power. Takeoffs in props planes are more exhilarating when the props are revved up to approximately 1,400 RPM. That's when the props make the "Bumblebee" sound.
Many people don't realize that the turboprop engine is actually a "Turbojet" engine with a propeller attached. Many are convinced that it's a turbocharged piston engine like that of a Porsche. It's my understanding that 90 percent of the trust comes from the props, while the jet exhaust adds a ten percent additional thrust. It's also my understanding that for that reason, turboprop engines are much more fuel efficient than conventional fan jet engines, though the down side is a slower cruising speed. For that reason and that I personally think that turboprops are more fun to fly in, I wish that most airliners used for domestic flights had four turboprops instead of the two big fan jets. I feel that turboprops would be best for flights within a thousand miles or less, such as Charlotte Douglas to New York LaGuardia, with only 15 to 20 minutes added between takeoff and touchdown. I think it would be worth those extra minutes to save gallons and gallons of jet fuel. I feel that regular fan jet airliners are best for cross country and overseas.

Thanks so much for sharing this video! I hope you've been able to view my documentary, "Electra! Queen of the Aleutian Islands", here on RUclips. So good to have these birds and the great Reeve crews recorded for history!

Cool video. Does not sound like an L-188 is any noisier than a B-727. Just a different type of noise. I have only flown on a turboprop once (I think it was a Vickers Viscount) but I was only 4 years old.
