  • In this video, following my pre-MOT checks, I’ll be replacing the rear stabilizer links. Easy enough job. This procedure is also applicable to the Volvo S40 MK2, C30 and V50.

    Thank you for uploading this video. I enquired at a local garage who quoted me £200 as they would need to drill out the snapped bolt. After watching your video, I managed to tap out the bolt using a screwdriver. The black plastic over time had melted it self to the bolt and just needed a chisel to remove it. So in total it only cost me £7 for the part and 20 minutes of my time. Legend.

    Thank you. Both mine were cracked, failed MOT, and now I have purchased the parts and will fix for myself. Saved about 60% against the quoted garage repair.

    Saved my day. Only difference was that the old ones were in such bad condition I had to use an angle grinder to cut them loose.
    Great instructions. Good visuals. Well explained!

    The same set-up for a Volvo C70 as well, looking at your axle's you should spray WD-40 over those axle's to prevent the whole thing rusting away, the spring holders/cups rust like mad, I have sprayed every little bit of rust showing in that area on my C70, these cars are prone to a lot of rust on the suspension/axle set-up, you don't want the coil springs falling through the holders, this is what happens with these cars with this set-up.

    • @GentilsGarage
      @GentilsGarage  Год назад

      Thanks. Yes, they are very prone to rust on the suspension area, and the front subframe also suffers too but not at the same extent.
      It was already rusty like this when I bought it, but it will be removed and refurbished later this year and treated with Lanogard.

    Have a MK2 Focus Estate. My driveway has quite a steep incline so I can comfortably get under the rear of the car without jacking the car up. Do you have to jack the car up or can I do this on the ground? Thanks, great content as always 👍

    • @GentilsGarage

      Thank you. I personally prefer to jack up the car. Also it might release some tension on the rear bar too

      @Nathan-bc3gj 2 года назад +1

      @@GentilsGarage managed to replace them without jacking up the car, but had to very slightly jack up the drivers side anti-roll bar to line up better, as the bolt wasn't quite reaching the top nut (if that make sense!). So far I can't hear anymore creaking when going over bumps. Thanks again for the tips!
      Edit: my bolts were so rusted, it was much harder to remove the links compared to yours but got there eventually, with a lot of trying and swearing 😂

      Hi. If the rear drop links on your car are in good condition (not just visually, try to move them so see if they cause a knock) they look at the other suspension components, including the subframe.
