Just found your channel, I'm in NM too. Have a quick question for you, on something should be far less challenging. How does openpilot work on I25 from Las Vegas to Raton? Because I previously had a Tesla MY and had such Phantom breaking issues with the small hills and bad detection had to stop using it.
Yes, the Comma 3X should work on any road where it can see the edge of the road or the lane markings. If it worked on this very difficult stretch of mountainous 2-lane road, stretches of Interstate should be no problem for it!
Very nice. Those rural/forest highways are some of my favorite drives. I'm still not sure about running Comma, but I also don't have any cars that are compatible.
Hi, no, all cameras the Comma 3X uses are built into the device. Those are the two front-facing cameras (wide and ultra-wide) and the driver monitoring camera. Through the connection with the lane keep assist camera, the Comma is able to know when the blind spot alert is active, but it cannot see the output of the blind spot camera.
@@ArtiePenguin1 I've been slowly building a replica '41 lincoln continental, over the last 12 years and was hoping to integrate this technology by installing lane assist and cruise control technology for a compatible car (that is destined for the scrap). Is there any other technology this software is compatible with? i.e. built in navigation tool, smart indicator lights, high powered torque steering wheel control?
@@hamiltonjames8255 In that case, I'd encourage you to reach out to the CommaAI (OpenPilot) and SunnyPilot development teams on Discord. However, I'm not too sure how willing they'd be to support your custom built hardware. They generally stick to supporting only modern (less than 20 years old) production cars. Still, you might find someone in the development team would be receptive to your homebrew restoration project.
I have an OBD2 splitter. It isn't recommended, but the Comma will function without OBD2 power. However, it will 'hard' shutdown immediately when the car is not on/running. I found that out because I had a bad writing connection and my Comma kept doing that until I fixed it. You'll definitely want 12 volt OBD2 power... ***To clarify: Comma only uses OBD2 for supplemental 12-volt power. No data is sent or received. Comma gets all its data into/out of the car from the LKAS (lane keep assist) camera connection by the mirror.
Yes, I would highly recommend it. However make sure you get the 3X and not the 3. The Comma 3 is an older model which would require more cables and adapters since it doesn't have Red Panda hardware built in. The 3X only requires 1 cable from the lane camera plus OBD2 12-volt power.
Oh, no worries, lol. It makes sense now. I actually use Car Scanner, which is a similar app to Torque. Car Scanner works better for E-GMP (Hyundai Kia) vehicles and has a better UI (user interface).

Nice video and great test of the comma 3x. Good information and explaination of the comma 3x test.
what car that is most compatible for comma ?
The following webpage has a list of all the officially compatible Comma AI vehicles:

Can you add additional camera into the system? Side and back cameras (for blind spot, and auto lane changes)

kool,,, nice blue :))
How are you able to run comma ai and the tongue app at the same time? Aren’t they both using your OBD port?

@@ArtiePenguin1 👍 thanks for the clarification…
What are the two devices on your steering wheel?
Hi thanks for watching, those are GoPro remotes for controlling the cameras.
I need a comma 3

@@ArtiePenguin1 I think you missed Jeff’s point… 😄
How so? He said he "need[s] a comma 3." So that means he wants to try it out...
@@ArtiePenguin1 No, he wants to review one for his channel.
Right Jeff? 😎
@@JohnCap523 Well it still involves using and testing it right? So he's still interested in using it...
Thanks!
I’m meant torque app (typos…)

Thanks so much for this helpful information… which OBD splitter do you recommend..? For a hybrid Corolla
Any OBD2 splitter on Amazon should work because the Comma only gets 12-volt power from the OBD2 port
FrogPilot shits on sunny all day long
In what ways? Are you able to control steering and speed independently like you can in SunnyPilot?
