    Wow, I just got a Wolverine and so glad to check this as I would assume new it was fine. You have me scared into checking all my attachments now.

    Don’t beat yourself up. I have watched two other videos from reputable guys who also did not preflight their oil levels after buying a new brush cutter. Good video enjoyed your positive attitude toward getting it fixed.

    Great detail, thank you. Those gears sounded very bad after the repair....it'll be interesting to see how long they last. Hopefully they work themselves together and smooth out like you mentioned.

      Probably have about 40 hours on it since the rebuild and so far so good! I took the cap off to inspect and the oil looks new still.

    Soon as I started watching I knew that gear box was empty. Didn't really surprise me at all when I kept watching

      I think of it as a learning experience! Plus this has helped a few people rebuild their gearboxes. So I’m glad I was able to help some people locate parts and help them do the repair.

      @@MakersAcres yeah that's good. I saw one for sale on marketplace and the ad said they are empty for transport. Doesn't really make sense to me but they should have a warning on them

    Weld a cap over the main nut on the blade bracket to protect the nut, I used an old oxygen bottle cap cut in half. Great comeback video on a dire situation.

    Maybe I’m missing it but would you mind adding the exact gear box model and the exact mower model numbers? I have the exact problem and I’m looking to find parts. I contacted wolverine and they said the only sell the whole assembly and not the parts to fix it. I’d like to save some money and rebuild it myself. I just want to know if I can use the same parts that you have used. Thank you for the great detailed video! It has helped a ton!

    Great video, with the bearings tho just add a little oil of them before installing so they aren’t dry on startup. Other than that awesome job!!

    Worth it’s weight in scrap, my skid-pro has a 400 pound gearbox with 8 “ tapered bearings turning a 500 pound flywheel with three 3\4” blades, .

      Honestly don’t worry about painting the gearbox, it’ll never stay together long enough for corrosion to become an issue

      @@petedavidsen1760 I have probably 40-60 hours of use since the rebuild and it is still going strong. I mean, I put way better bearings in it than what was in it before, so I expect a long life now. Would I rely on it if my business was mowing lawns or clearing brush with this, no. But for my personal property it has been wonderful. I just had to pay a stupid tax for not putting oil in it. It’s a better gear box now though even though it was painful.

    Hello, how many hours of labor do you estimate you had in this repair? I have a similar issue and am trying to determine if it is worth it!
    Also, can you please provide your resource you used to learn how to complete the repair?

      I think what took the longest was researching the correct parts! Probably 3-5 hours for the actual repair. All of the resources are in the description. You might have to look on a desktop to see it.

    19:34 I'd say you should remove as much rust as you can. The rust reformer, reforms the rust that you leave over that is still in the pores and microscopic areas...

    Same thing happened to me, no gear oil due to shipping it from overseas. Since put a new gearbox in, blades and this weekend something let go and shattered my Kubota windshield….

      @@MakersAcres it was a oh $hit moment.. I think it might have been some weld that snapped (I’ll check for you) ordered a 1/2 lexan front windshield for my Kubota SVL 95, supposed to be much safer than the regular glass. Better safe than sorry

    These come from China with no oil due to epa. 80/90 gear oil is needed. These blades cut too low to the ground. Easily break.

      Haha. I know that now. I’ve probably mowed 10 hours since the rebuild and it is holding up fine. I normally do a couple passes. One up high and one closer to the ground. You have to be going kind of slow and you are constantly adjusting deck height.

      ​@@MakersAcresi mod my blades and put on some bobcat blades. $35 per blade instead of what they want and double the metal on them. Never broke a blade since. Just the center piece bent now but it's not going to bend now with a half piece on it
