I've been a Razorback basketball fan for over 50 years. If i had the tickets and fuel for the 240-mile round trip, i would go to every home game no matter the opponents or nights.
I’ve bought hundreds of tickets on the secondary market, dating back to the late 80s. When you held your fingers up at a “Pacific” type of game at BWA, it was common to get free tix, or at least deeply discounted. The giver would simply request that we use them and cheer loud. I checked the pacific game and found 4 tickets for $8 each. Add fees, and it was easy over 3x the cost. Needless to say, I passed. Some old fashioned systems were better, I think. Demographics in Arkansas are rapidly changing, but there’s still a few poor ol’ country boys and girls that’d show up if it was affordable. I love football to be in the 5-8 wins per year range. That means I’m going to get some cheap tickets and enjoy a game or two. It’s as fun for me as it would be for a yuppie to win a title. Only difference is the yuppie is delusional in their thinking. Their season ends in disappointment, mine ends with gratitude for experiencing the game with my family one more season. WPS!
Having no Arkansas kid on the basketball team has nothing to do with attendance lol. Also, people are fatigued from another poor football season and have not re-energized for the basketball season yet.
Made this point on another video, but fans not showing up for these early-season, during or near the holidays, non-conference games is NOT some new thing. Now I'd be there if I could, but I vividly remember in my Hogwild band days regularly having to reach out to local high school kids, sometimes their parents and band directors, and band alumni just to fill out the band section for those games. I agree that there are some other contributing factors making it worse right now (NIL, no Arkansas kids), but you're just not gonna shame people into showing up for these games they know we should win...Win that Baylor game and we're probably talking about something different. I also agree with factoring in another disappointing football season, but the fans are still waiting for a good reason to be excited, and beating up on cupcakes ain't it.
The comment below about the football program rubbing off on basketball is probably accurate. A lot of this fan base wanted Pittman gone last year. I did. This season has not lessened that number, surely has increased those that want Pittman gone. The university ignoring the fan base will create apathy. The Razorbacks are not like going to the grocery store. They can be lived without. Even by those that followed them many years.
11:24 so it’s the fans fault? People are tired of seeing a poor product being put on the football field. Maybe it’s possible fans are in protest and don’t want to keep coughing up the price for tickets and the increased concession prices. They have to pay $, the players and coaches are getting compensated quite well..
I think the disappointment in football has made the attendance low for basketball. Hog fans are just exhausted and mentally fatigued from all the embarrassing losses

Encouraged by a loss way to go Mike.

Play a crappy team + low grade hog football team = crappy attendance.
