tip for catching more squids: go grab a smokescreen totem and a sundial totem if its not night + foggy the smokescreen totem is found at mushgrove swamp and the sundial totem is at sunstone and after u have these totems u go to the spot in the vid and use any rod that has a max kg of 1k or higher and u can also use bait that gives u a good amount of universal luck such as night shrimp and after u do all that u just wait until u get one on ur line
another tip:You can fish during Aurora Borealis to get higher chances to get the colosal squid,you can get the Aurora thing by 2 ways:buying a token and using it or just waiting to get that Aurora

you can't buy specific baits, you can catch bait crates and purchase bait crates. I'd say dont worry about baits if you're still new. They aren't needed unless you are going after mythic fish

can get a bigger fish if you are lucky, next to where they sell the fish, in Moosewoods. There is an NPC that helps you with that, you have to pay 450. You can get different mutations for the fish, it can be shiny or even more, I made my 6912kg nessie change to 19315kg
I tried to do this but I've catches absolutely UT 56 fish in this area and still no squid I'm not sure if I am fishing in the right area or I'm not because there are no flags there for some reason.
If u are pay to win and want the collosal squid just buy aurora totem buy VI luck from Merlin and buy 8× luck then go to the snowcap cave use tge totem and fiah there you go with this i got 2 collosal squids in 7 minutes (use it when its night)

if your still having trouble catching the colossal squid you can try and get the kings rod, it is a direct upgrade to the steady rod

U can find the squid in the snowcap islands cave aswell
you can go to the world border or snowcap's cave for better chances.

every bait that don't got a resilience debuff is good if you want to catch mythical and hard fishs
