My flight got delayed once I was going to miss the connection but a super elite was also flying the same two flights so they held the plane for 30min until our plane arrived
I hit 1 million miles with AC in 2016....that's a lot of crying babies endured!! That's actual miles flown on AC metal on an AC ticket. So now I have a AC 50k (Star Air Alliance Gold card) for life. It took me 17 years to do it. Working overseas. 9 round trips a years from Calgary to Aberdeen Scotland. So I have all the perks without having to fly to qualify each year.
Of course an US card for a CANADIAN airline is automatically better than more expensive Canadian co-brand cards of the same Canadian airline. Getting 75k for only spending $50k is wild… thanks air Canada
Pls make a new updated video on how to redeem aeroplan points. I’ve been looking to see the redemption values for different flights and the additional $ fees that come on top of redeeming points is at least 70% of the cost of just outright buying the ticket of the same flights using just $. Pls give some insights
If you live close to the US boarder and can drive to a larger US airport (Seattle, Minneapolis, Buffalo, Detroit for example) converting to United miles at 1:1 and flying united airlines (I’ve done this a few times now) the fees drop to a few % on a $100, or the last time I took a low cost Canadian carrier to a US city then used points transferred to united from there. I truly see no value in collecting Aeroplan other then for transferring to other points. It’s work to figure out though and the rules can be different for baggage policies and cancellation and change policies so you have to do your research.
@@tylerg8031 Thanks I will look into this. Also I agree I feel like aeroplan is just way too hyped up when I don't see much value in redeeming at all. I will have to also see whats the best loyalty program available in Canada tho
Okay so this year I’m tryna get my Aeroplan 25k status. I’m an aeroplan credit card holder which means I’m eligible for a buddy pass. I was tryna use it last night so that I can get flights to Halifax to see my grandma who I haven’t seen in 10+ years and my dad is attending an event there in a couple weeks. However, the pass wasn’t deposited into my aeroplan acc due to technical issues on the AC website. My dad got a reimbursement for his flight because of the event he’s attending but they were in a rush to purchase his flights this morning. Since I wasn’t able to use my buddy pass my parents offered me to use their points on AC or WestJet. But that means I’m gonna miss out on a pretty big chunk of points since Halifax is the whole other side of the country from me (I live in BC) 😢
Great video - Can you please make a video on behind the scenes of "The Aeroplan Status Pass program by Air Canada " . How is it beneficial for Air Canada by launching this program " .
Benefits that in the case with people with schedule restrictions so travel can’t be flexible are useless or can be cheaper to pay cash when you factor in what you spent to get those perks. Cash back can a lot of the times be better now as it’s hard to get better then 2% value for airline points when you factor in fees and taxes where as cash back is constant and in your pocket and way less restricted (just takes a bit longer to get there depending on your points values) I collect Amex points mainly to transfer to US airlines and hotels when marriott points are low or transfer aeroplan to United and fly from the US. Airmiles is a good option if fly Porter airlines from Canada to US for short hall flights then transfer aeroplan or Amex points to US carriers from that Point
Question about the bonus points you can choose in each tier. (125% @ 25k, 150% @ 50k, etc) are those on sqm already allotted or just towards the sqm moving forward? Also, if im on pace in a year to easily hit Super Elite, should I just bypass the points bonuses till the end? (200%) or is there and advantage or choosing bonus points in each tier?
Hey I love your videos; they helped me get started with points credit cards. I have the AMEX Aeroplan Reserve, and I still pay $35 / visit to a priority pass. Is there a way to get access to priority pass lounges without paying the fee? Since the food and beverages there aren't typically worth $35 CAD, it makes it difficult to see the value in the priority pass when you have to pay. My girlfriend has Chase Saphire Reserve, and has Priority Pass Select and doesn't need to pay for lounge access. Thanks!
Each person can only earn all these SQM/SQD/SQS on their own flight, as everyone requires their own account. So even if you pay for all your family member in the same flight, only your own flight's cost and distance will be recored for your own account
with the chase aeroplan credit card, say in 2024, i have 25K elite status, and i spend $50K and for 2025, i get level up to 35K. now throughout 2025, I have 35K elite status. if i spend $50K again on 2025, do I get level up to 50K elite status in 2026? and can I get to super elite status by just spending $50K in a matter of years?
What is the policy regarding co-upgrades on the same ticket? Example: recently travelled to Tokyo from YYZ. Wife 75k travelled with our son (6yr old) and of-course he has no status but was co-upgraded from Premium Economy to Business Class (waitlist) on the flights both there and back. Myself being the husband had a seperate booking (same flight) and no status but was not upgraded. Had I been on her ticket would I have been upgraded as well (pending availability?)
Thanks Ricky, good point. Actually the reason i'm on a seperate ticket was because we utilitzed a perk of 50% savings on aeroplan points for premium economy booking for a 2nd passenger. The system webpage would error out whenever I tried to also add myself (at full aeroplan points fare). Unsure if it was a glitch or designed this way when using these perks. Either way, I know better for next time @@PrinceofTravel
For that 75k benefit of bumping someone else, I wonder if AC is offering money for people to voluntarily take the next flight. Or if its a United Airline Asian man getting beat up, type of situation. If its the latter, that would reflect really bad on AC, to screw over some passengers to spoil other passengers
Likely offer people money. Or not letting someone to board. 75k status does get the benefit of priority boarding so if they enter during priority boarding its not that much of a problem. So they just won't let them board.
If you don't make it to 25K before the end of the year (2023 for example), does all your SQM SQD and SQS progress reset the next year (starting from scratch in 2024)?
Hello... Um I got a question... What does it mean when your CIBC Card declined? I'm trying to buy something but after it says your card is declined.. what does that mean like actually????
So, would you say this is the better option after Asiana will merge with KE ( that means Asiana won’t be SA member anymore) to reach SA Gold Status? I liked the fact about Asiana, that they gave you 2 years to keep the Diamond Status etc.
1) if you get your million mile status with AC then you could get star alliance gold for life and not even have to start over 2) it’s possible that the Korean Air/Asiana Airlines merger won’t happen because antitrust authorities from the US and EU are resisting it
I didn't even know about this...but I actually told a Asiana gate agent recently that they don't belong in the SA group since their carry-on baggage policies aren't consistent with their partner airlines. I have decided not to book flights that involve Asiana again because of the issues experienced.
@@arlencarlson yeah haven’t flown them, but I was intending to collect points through them to get to the status etc, because of the miles expiration etc… but now there’s no need to due to the merging to Korean Air. Well my question is still, which airline is now the fairly good one for climbing the status. Aeroplan sounds fine but don’t know if it’s better to go to Aegean.

I've kind of given up on airline loyalty programs. Miles are being devalued continually. Why bother

Do status reset every year? or do you keep them as you go, once achieved? (this may sound stupid) but I am new to all this. :)

Why does he keep saying that choosing the bonus aeroplane points is the way to get elite status. Do points contribute to SQM in some way?
Does it count if you have lots of travelers, or is it just per flight on sqs and sqm part?

Unfortunately it does not stack like this. The 1 level up is to level up a status that you genuinely earn with the airlines.

No it doesn’t. It’s not a feature this card has.

Yes, they reset January 1st. Unless you have a premium credit card in which case SQM can be rolled over, but not SQD.
