I've been immersing myself in bluegrass for a solid month and these guys are a cut above everything I've seen. Truly unique! No weak links in this band.
thanks soo much for posting this in its entirety! it's nice to experience the full feeling of watching a live show by one of the best groups -- something like this is gonna sadly be rare to see from these guys again for a while
This is so cool. Love "Half of What We Know" Tristan is doing some really fantastic work here....I just get such a kick out of his playing partly because cello is not exactly a common bluegrass instrument!
The amount of brilliance and virtuosity in this performance is intoxicating. You guys are delightful. Would love to hear you live/ meet you some day… maybe even collaborate. Im an improvising cellist loving and admiring incredible instrumentalists 💗
+Ws Johnston I don't know about the improv....but bluegrass is a combination of African, Celtic and Native American Music......You have instruments and rhythms of Africa, Mixed w/ instruments vocals and themes from The British Isles and Vocals and themes from Native Americans. Steeped in Southern Appalachian Poverty and the Faith that gets them through.
lottiesdad Irish music has improv at a very high level - bends, triplets and alternative melody lines. There is also huge rhythmic variation in the military drumming from north east Ulster ( scots-Irish country) - compare Lambeg drumming with the fife and drum in the US.
@@lottiesdad My grandpa was a scotsman, and he used to say the same. Foggy Dew, House Carpenter, The Cruel Mother, Parcel of Rogues, all of them share the same roots.
Have you guys ever heard a bluegrass band from OSLO, NORWAY ? Weird, isn't it ? Here Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra. They are cool - ruclips.net/video/5CuzjBN75-M/видео.html - Take a good look at Bob Dylan's cover - Señor (Tales of Yankee Power) 0:55:49
pretty cool.. i am way partial to dock boggs version... this is cool, but that shuckin and jivin on the fiddles gets to be way too much sometimes.. very good though. makes me happy that they are playing this particular song with a powerful message!
I guess she's just too busy being a successful and sought after folk musician to meet up with your standards. Perhaps Chris Thile was slumming it on the Goat Rodeo sessions.
I've commented similar on here before and been slammed for it, but it does seem strange to me. The rest of the band are so talented and solid, and their studio albums are great, but I don't like O'Donovan's part when it comes to live performances. Spoils it for me, and I generally love their rmusic. The tone of her voice is nice but her rhythm and emphasis is all over the place and it jars with the rhythm of the band as a whole.
They're all great, but that cellist is my hero
I agree. Kick ass Cello!
Brittany Haas is so awesome, she really gets in the zone.
Dr. Liszt is such a beast.
Fantastic music , one of the best groups ever !
I recently discovered this band and so far really like them. Love the banjo!

If you like these guys, check out The Sarah Jarosz Trio.
Thanks. I'll check em out!
+John Witner Do sample Hot Rize/Red Knuckles & the Trailblazers (alter egos) & Della Mae. Many samples on YT.
Check out the Dixie Bee Liners.
What a fantastic band playing at a fantastic music festival
Thank you PanamaRedLTF for posting this
Man, Jonson, don't be defining Bluegrass! This is awesome, and it sounds like Bluegrass, so it's Bluegrass. And it's awesome!
What a great band, and yes that banjo player is crazy good.

What an astounding ensemble! Wow. Double wow!
Sounds like the studio recording. Love this band!
These kids play their heart out. I love it!

What a wonderfully accomplished band
Ran acorss this by accident and it was the best accident I have had:)
really looking forward to seeing Aoife O'Donovan and Sarah Jarosz in london April 2015
Sara Watkins is no slouch either
don't really know much about sara watkins, but I've just ordered her CD
she was in Nickle Creek. the "i'm with her" tour is bound to be phenomenal!
it should be a great night, I've seen sarah jarosz before, she is superb. and the venue, Union Chapel is fantastic
very nice i love it
I had problems with my breath control when I saw them live, even worse when Aoife & Natalie came out & chatted with the audience afterwards.
Happy birthday, Brittany. Please come to Hawaii! 🖤
i Think do a great job om all there music
Her breathy voice works really well on her new solo album. I hope she don't change a thing!
Bluegrass was always a study in improv.... celtic-appalachian, mountain-irish fiddle, etc.

so THAT's why I always loved it...

Best wishes to all from Less Than Face Productions. Grey Fox 2012 on the horizon.
Beautiful!
I thought you would be my friend
awesome stuff
I asked Sam Bush, and he said L yes, this is great bluegrass.
Thanks
Crooked Still, thanks, that was bad arse.
I wish there was more content with Haas and O'Donovan :(
I have found some nice clips on O'Donovan.
It is unusual for a bluegrass type band to not have a guitar, but it works.
MORE BANJO!!!
Oh and love the banjo player
Ha! Good one. I like her vocal style, myself.

Oh I recognize the voice...
pretty cool.. i am way partial to dock boggs version... this is cool, but that shuckin and jivin on the fiddles gets to be way too much sometimes.. very good though. makes me happy that they are playing this particular song with a powerful message!
Tarekkr thanks, i appreciate that. i have seen them live a few times. just sayin ;)
Hey Adam Chaffins, what say you?
talented and good looking: Brittany Haas
17:55 The Wayfaring Stranger
Edit: I was wrong I confused it with "when I first unto this country"
Nooo lmao
What is this musical style called?
I love you guys. But I wish you could put stuff on Rumble so I can divorce RUclips
bluegrass in newyork what in the hell
Blue ghost legs .. yamma.
the fiddler is hot
Really, it's not bluegrass? What is it? I thinks it's bluegrass
Newgrass?
Aoife O'Donovan

Why isn't it bluegrass?
I guess she's just too busy being a successful and sought after folk musician to meet up with your standards.

who is the fiddle player
+Denis Severino Man shes a damn good fiddle player.Cello player to.The whole band's solid this is the first time i ever heard them.Very impressed.

its easier for you to look up seldom scene, bill monroe, ralph stanley-flatt and scruggs---not sure what you would call this unless maybe yuppie grass
not really bluegrass but some think so---i guesss its a yankee version
Dig the musicians, but the singer needs to learn breath control.

pas terrible
fiddle toooo much
Not Bluegrass and must have not done a sound check the way she is running all over the place and changing out things.
+colonelcalabash1 So ???
It's a fast paced festival. They usually only get a line check if they're lucky, forget a sound check.
James Smith
It’s a major festival with many famous performers.
Things can be a bit hectic.
