    Charging at the end of the day isn't the only option. I like having a long lunch in town on my way to a site and plug in at the restaurant or gas station. Fast charger is important here, as fast as your battery supports.

      @@waltersmithat70 yes, I use 2amp charger everyday and I bought slow charger from beginning (I had 6amp charger with new bike). Only during long trips I use fast charger. It is shame bosch do not offer 6a for new bosch ebikes.

      @@waltersmithat70 It depends on the battery. I can charge my 40Ah pack at 8A with no negative effects. What kills a battery quickest is charging the pack full and then depleting it again and again. Don't charge past 85% of the pack's capacity or discharge past 20% of capacity, and you can get 1500 or more recharge cycles vs 500. With a lot of low-end POS ebikes the battery can be half the cost of the bike.

    Fantastic to see you back kev ! Ebike fab way to see the world, fyi …consider using a well designed bike trailer carry all your gear plus solar power generator with role panel can add extra day or 2 too trip + trailer excellent grocery getter…if thinking about buying first ebike consider first building out that old 26er MB that you might still have kicking around …mid drive system by far the best

    Thanks Kevin. Lots of good information. Range, how to pedal, where to go etc.
    The only thing I would add is. If you are going as a group, don't think that you can share one charger for everyone's bike. Each manufacturer uses specific batteries paired with specific chargers. Using the wrong charger can cause a battery fire.

    So this is all new to me with e-biking, but is it not possible for manufacturers to make some kind of regenerative power? Is it not a thing? Going downhills enfage a re-gen that adds to your charge much like sailing vessels use electric motors and batteries?

    the idea of needing to find a plug all the time has me a bit wary. Something I've wondered is if you could make a charging station you could strap to the back of your bike, out of a lightweight portable power station kept in a front or back basket, and a backpacking solar panel (something like a BigBlue??) strapped hanging over the bike's back & panier bags to charge your power bank or spare battery while you're riding. I dunno much about electricity so idk if it would have the energy to be efficient enough? But it feels like if the right gear exists, you could be able to charge up anywhere without needing a source of power you can't bring with you?

    • @VistasdelMar2008
      @VistasdelMar2008 14 дней назад

      Exactly what I do. I bought the recently launched ANKER solix 300 DC power station which gives me an additional 288wh of charge which I keep in a bike bag on top of rear rack and run a USBC cable to charge while riding. I usually use this once I get to 80% because a DC charge is obviously slower than AC and this allows me to slowdown the battery drain during a long days ride. The solix charges from a folding solar panel kit or at night in a room when I am bike-hoteling it.

    "Local Authorities" can also make up bullsht if they have something against ebikes. First, know the LAW and connect with other ebike campers and enthusiasts in the area that you wish to go.

      You don't have to be a millionaire to afford an e bike. If you enjoy bike touring, then it's a worthwhile investment. If you're a brokea$$, you're not economically qualified for any luxury items.

      Great question,. Yes, you can pedal when your battery is dead just like a regular bike. You won't be stranded. We just recommend doing all that exertion in the beginning while you're feeling good (and energetic) and let the assistance help at the end. Hope you give it a try!
