  • Sometimes there aren't any good choices following standard procedures and you have to get a little creative. That was the case with this run. This oversize load was 14'9" and the last overpass before our exit was 14'9"... it wasn't going to fit. The ramp for Exit 107 on NY-17 in Thompson, NY was the wrong type of ramp to do traditional ramping. The ramp went off in the wrong direction and the little crossover on the ramp to get to the on-ramp was too small and had a 3' ditch on either side so a U-turn was also not possible. We had to get creative and this is what we came up with.. Route surveys and pilot cars provided by Patriot Certified Pilot cars LLC. This load was moved by SM Gallivan LLC.

Great job! What a great job of backing up the rig. It's amazing with a little knowledge and a lot if experience will do.

That's good, you do what you got to do, as a retired heavy haul driver myself I have crawled under overpass with only one inch to spare with my air-ride dumped!

+crapper1 We really didn't have any options. As NYS Certified Escort we are also flagmen and allowed to stop/direct traffic on state routes. This was the only possible way that wouldn't potentially damage the load.

thats really cool not being on that side of the industry had a feeling you could but never seen it done before to this extent as long as the shiny side stays up is all that matters :) stay safe

As a Pilot/Escort myself you do what you have to do to ensure safety whether it be the peoples safety or the loads safety

      Nicely done!
Too bad one of the cars had that obnoxious echo in his radio. Echoes detract from what's important when serious information and directions are given on a radio. A good clear sounding radio with a good noise canceling microphone are best. Save those silly echoes for the dirt haulers who have serious inferiority complexes and want to sound like they have a big radio.
      Nice job guys!
