Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill are huge in both Italy and Switzerland, can't speak for countries like France or Germany. But I'm pretty certain that they are well known throughout all of Europe.
As a German I can confirm that these guys are huuuge here, there literally isn't anyone over 30 who doesn't know them, when Bud Spencer passed away it was like we lost a national hero, absolute legends
I saw many of their films at the Drive-in (up to 1985, when our local Drive-in screen blew down in a storm) and later, on VHS as a kid in Australia. I think they did pretty well everywhere except America.
The next James Bond is probably going to be a John Wick style movie. A pencil pushing MI6 agent is thrust into a world where his Gunkata skills make him the best agent.
Regarding Mason's third theory for rebooting the Bond franchise, one of the alleged reasons why Danny Boyle left the film almost fits this one verbatim.

My ringtone is the 90s X-Men theme and my background is 'Hey Tin Woodsman....' Super excited for that news. The music named is accurate and painfully reminds me I am 42 and OLD.
I thought Lashana Lynch's 007 was such a waste. She didn't do anything particularly interesting the whole movie, and inexplicably goes from "Watch out Jimmy Bond, I'mma pop a cap in in your old man knees" to "Commander Bond, sir. *salutes*". Was really hoping she'd show up and help save the day during the forest car chase, but nah she was just chilling apparently.
Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill are big in the whole of europe, but Germany especially. This is because of the german dub and it's a fascinating story. They we're basically given a free pass to do whatever back then and they ran with it. They upped the comedy, invented a lot of jokes not in the original movies, etc. This movies still run on tv here all the time and are beloved even by young people.
I'm usually fairly aligned with the boys' takes, but I've disagreed pretty hard these past two weeks on Bond and Eternals. NTTD was only mildly better than Spectre, a few high points, but its flaws totally sank the whole thing for me. Eternals, I recognise all the flaws (and yeah, it's got them for sure) but still enjoyed it a lot more overall.
Its really funny that Mason mentions Bud Spencer and Terrance Hill in regards to Red Notice, because thats exactly what came to my mind after watching the movie today. I think Red Notice ultimately is a little to shiny and sterile in comparison and doesn't have the same charme of the Spencer & Hill movies, but the same comparison came to my mind. I will also add that the Spencer & Hill movies are absolute cult classics in Germany as well. Pretty much everyone who at least grew up before 2000 is super familiar with their movies here. Not sure about other countries, but they are very famous here in Germany. Those movies are just silly slapstick fun with charming characters and the movies lean into the silliness, definitely worth a watch on a lazy Sunday or something.
@@linkdk59 yep, 100%. I work at a cinema and have to pick up all the trash that's left behind, so whenever I clean the bond one during the credits, I see it appear at the end lol
SPOILERS for No Time to Die How did Bond have a kid when we saw his testicles get tenderized by Le Chiffre? Was it Balbianello hospital medicine? Or did Q get him a new pair?
Testicles can heal with time, depending on the injury. My father always tells of a friend of his who lost one testicle in an accident with a cow and yet managed to conceive a child with only one.
He was able to move his balls around in the sack during that scene, so one of them took the brunt of the punishment and the other one deftly dodged the attacks.
For villains in Marvel I think some of the best to use would be like a Kingpin or a Norman Osbourne, Dr. Doom. Then you could use lesser villains as lackeys. But ultimately I think the team ups with villains would be the best idea. Thunderbolts/Dark Avengers etc. I’m glad Sony has jumped the gun on villains with Venom, Morbius and Kraven. Just looking for more superhuman stories with dark tones and elements
I had looked forward to more from this iteration of the Mi:6 team , and as mentioned in the spoilers section - sometimes the actors reprise their roles when a new Bond actor takes over. I’d like to see a Gotham Knight style anthology series set in the Bond universe, where each short opens with a henchman or a low down Mi6 operative talking about the run ins they’ve had with Bond or stories passed down by people throughout the years. As he’s supposed to be a secret agent his identity and decade are inconsistent. That way each short has a different actor portraying Bond - eg a fun 60’s set adventure with Cavill, a gritty Idris Elba style Noir thriller- a millennium cyber threat with Hiddleston…
I think you guys are off on your predictions for the future of the Bond franchise. They are always going to make James Bond movies with James Bond as the main. Thats what Cubby would do. If Amazon gets spin offs out them anytime soon id ve surprised but even if so I fully believe the main film series will always be Bond. It's been 60 years and they are still doing well. Why would they change?
I would tend to agree. Especially since they didn't say "007 will return" they said "James Bond will return" at the end, that was deliberate. Just give it 5 years or so for people's appetite for another Bond movie has returned and people will flock to it.
I didn't know the statute of limitations on having an opinion about something was five years. Regardless, my favorite comment about GB2016 will always be (paraphrasing) "Can you imagine what would happen if they ruined our childhood by making a bad Ghostbusters movie?" followed by a picture of the poster for Ghostbusters 2.
Just let Lashana Lynch star in the next one. It's not gonna make too much money at first, but just keep developing her character. She built up a mutual respect for Bond in his final moments that is the perfect setup for his successor.
Bond couldn’t touch anyone at all after getting poisoned because the poison would continue to pass through everyone else until reaching his family. So it’s not just them he’d have to avoid. So I don’t think it was defeatist.
I think instead of a reboot, they’ll stay in this universe, but now James Bond is going to become a code name for the next 007 to take up. The name James Bond is so well known in the world of espionage, that it’s the equivalent of a boogeyman. So the next 007 will now use the name in missions and must adopt the identity.
At the very end of the credits they say that James Bond Will Return so it's either they'll bring him back through another reboot or he'll be back in other forms outside the movies
I’ve got exactly the same view as Mason, this and the first two Craig movies are easily his best, the S duo is so sterile and monotonous (a lot of which comes from the score)
Thank you so much for doing the Caravan of garbage Trilogy on Ghostbusters! Ghostbusters was one of my kids links into my past pop culture Adventures! They really love all three movies for individual reasons but the one that started the whole thing with them was the 2016 all girl version. I really like that movie for just being a movie on its own for people to have fun with. I think it's really sad that people my age (I was born in 1982) can't get over the fact that a group other than the original group especially an all-girl group shouldn't be Ghostbusters? Very weird to me.
I doubt it. Notice how ridiculous important Avengers Age of Ultron is in the latest phase of movies despite not being well received? Marvel leaned into everything for AoU unapologetically. What's done is done with Eternals, that's the lore of the MCU now, so removing anything from Dr. Strange 2 related to it would seem very odd....especially since Eternals has performed okay at the box office. It's much more likely that it's' just not very good.
I would like to see Sam Rockwell have a redemption moment and become (an) iron man. That would be neato! Great actor. Good at being funny without trying like RDJ
I thought this was a smidgen above par. Predictable and I'd rather drink Marmite than suffer more Ryan Reynolds being more Ryan Reynolds. It was basically " The Rock teams up with Detective Pikachu while Wonder Woman let's her hair down." They did this in their sleep and summer popcorn flick yeah sure but not long after having watched something like 'Dune', it felt like eating a maccies breakfast when just the other night I had a steak from a fancy restaurant.
Spoilers: Bond should have ended the movie saying "you'll be okay" confidently. Bond opens the movie asking 'are you okay?"confusedly. which always jars me.
So I liked the 007 flick, but when you take a few minutes to think about it, Mr. Robot is by far the most ridiculous villain ever in the entire franchise. As a kid his parents are killed by Spectre, and on his own he learns where the Spectre assassin lives and kills his wife and is almost killed by his daughter, then leaves and becomes what I assume is a multi-billionaire, has moles in MI-6, the CIA and I assume Spectre because he knows _everything_ that Spectre is doing (the raid on the research lab in London, the party in Cuba, etc.), then he also gets missiles and a private army that he sends to Norway and to his island...all without Spectre, the CIA or MI-6 having a clue...and without the Russians or Japanese stopping him. Oh, and the irony is if the 10 year old was just a bit better of a shot (or just shot him again), or if Mr. White was home, his whole plan fails because he decided to hoof it through the snow and walk straight up to his target wearing a mask and a parka. Again, I enjoyed the movie, but Malak's character was so weakly developed and just made no sense making it by far the worst part of the movie, and his existence really devalued what Spectre was because clearly they're incompetent. Oh, and the scene in Cuba should have been the whole movie.
@@ObservantAid that's an excellent interpretation of the statement, yes. Nostalgia goggles are terrible. Other things can cause a shift toward toxicity. Including outside variables that influence the perspective and opinions of fans. But absolutely nostalgia.

BOND SPOILERS: Was it not tough to picture the guy from Casino Royal being the same guy in this movie? I love that they killed him, and I think you can make it work with a daughter, but he just honestly seemed like a romantic lead in an action movie here. Idk what they were thinking
How's this for an idea Maso? Instead of putting Bond together what if the next film begins with a mission on a remote island where 007 has been presumably killed in a missile strike reminiscent of the ending of No Time to Die. The camera zooms in on the burning hulk of the island and Bond, new actor, climbs out of the rubble with an M4 and mops up all the survivors of the strike. It's not meant as a direct continuation of No Time to Die but a new chapter beginning with a subtle reference to the last film.
No Time to Die was meh. Would've been better as a hand drawn animated movie, to really stand out from the rest for their last hoorah. I'd also do a gigantic bot of extraterrestrial origin instead of the nanobot stuff. The US government would be trying to get control of it to use it as a weapon, but as Bond befriends it and just wants to help it get home. That would've been a great movie.
NO TIME TO DIE - Twist after twist after twist and Bond is a carrier for some nano-machine virus which kills specific DNA targets.... SOMEBODY IS A METAL GEAR SOLID FAN
I KNEW BOND WOULD DIE WHEN... His girl and daughter are leaving on the boat and they zoomed in on them smiling - and fading to white. Fade to white indicates that's your last conscious image before you die, just like a fade to black means that you're losing consciousness, but will wake up eventually.
Does Bond get infected with the nano-virus at the end? Because I thought he already had that and his name was in the 'not kill' list because of the typical eastern European scientist guy. Safin had that scene about his knowledge of poisonous flowers and I thought that was what he was infected with that the end, the red vial, so he was going to die regardless. Am I mistaken?
No, it was the virus. The nanobots or whatever need to be programmed to kill specific peoples with certain DNA traits each time they are released, so the virus used to kill Spectre was different than the virus that Safin infected Bond with.
I wanted to bond (no pun intended) with my dad without causing an argument and took him to see some more time to die. As someone who has never seen any Bond movie I thought it was like a 6/10. I want a De Armas action movie though, I think she's great in this.

Never do jo ever! Review expendables!
I wanted to bond (no pun intended) with my dad without causing an argument and took him to see some more time to die.
As someone who has never seen any Bond movie I thought it was like a 6/10. I want a De Armas action movie though, I think she's great in this.
