Just ordered your book off Amazon, just watching your videos in the last couple days has helped so much….new bee keeper in Northern Ontario for spring of 2022….thanks so much keep doing what your doing
It's 04/22 and I just finished David and Sheri's book. I loved it. As a want-a-bee beekeeper I found it so helpful. Do your self a favor and get the book!
Hi David, I met you recently at the Mason Valley Beekeepers conference in Yerington, Nv. I told you that you and your videos are my favorite. Thanks for continuing to post them. I really enjoy them and always learn something new. I'm going into my fifth year of beekeeping this spring 2023. I am one of those baby boomers who started beekeeping as a hobby, and it has become my passion. I also love your porch setup and decor. It's a wonderful spot for coffee!
Hey Wyatt, nice to meet you in Yerington and I'm coming back in 2024 and looking forward to it!! Glad you like my video and video set up. It is constantly a work in progress. Wind is my biggest handicap on filming. I'm trying to move my 20 studio hives to a less windy area, but weather is not good enough yet.
Great coffee time, David. I used to be a ham, but let it lapse in 2011. New hobby: bees! My dad was an electrician too! Missed him for 17th Fathers Day now. I was thinking of him as I had a home wiring project today.
Good to hear George. Tonight on my ham I talked to an airline pilot over the gulf all the way from Illinois, then into New York, Virginia, and Canada. It's a blast. I often wired houses with my dad as a teenager, pulling wires through conduit.
Hello David this my second year with bee's there is so much to learn but with your videos they have made it easier thank you : Greg from Teeswater Ontario Canada
Love what you are doing much love from Slovenija. I am a new beekeeper and I have 14 AŽ beehives. And I have much to learn. I turn 22 years old in 17. September and I bought land with the beehives. And now I am trying to get as much inf. as I can so I bought your book on a kindle I hope you keep making videos and I will try to attend some off your online classes.
I think I might raise queens in the future but for me, taking a frame with forming queen cells and adding it to the nuc works almost every time for me. I do enjoy your videos and continue to learn.
I’m so glad I found you, lol. New bee keeper here. I’ve been researching for years and finally jumped. I’ve already purchased basic beekeeping course. Your book is next.. We went with a 5frame Nuc.. We put them in Tuesday morning.. All is well, they’ve adjusted well..
So great to hear. Taking a beekeeping course is ESSENTIAL because it is more difficult to keep bees alive today. Without the basic, fundamentals of beekeeping via our classes you will get frustrated. But with a good foundational you can build on you can become a very good beekeeper.
Another great video thank you. Just 3 days ago i ordered the video on making Queens. 10 years beekeeping so I'm going to try making my own Queens next year. Thanks for sending the video.
@@beek General, i wanted to dabble with HF in a NVIS config. I’ve been putting Ham and Beekeeping off for years now due to work, so I’m happy to finally get started in both.
Oh wow. I loved the radio stuff as a kid (still do)but had no access..I had wires hanging all over for antennas with no real success in my experiment with what ever I could find to hook to the wire. I soon discovered the wire brought a LOT of sparks into the house to jump across to the window screen during a thunder storm....Would have died for your bedroom full of electronics and a bit of help to go with it! But never got it.....had to settle for a cheap cassette you plugged into the wall and finally into stereo stuff. Oh to go back and do it all over again! Keep up the videos! I've learned a lot! ...Oh, at 10.50. Don't refer to any woman as old if you want to live happily ever after. lol!
Good point :). I love playing around with raspberry pies. I've got some that stop all ads coming into my internet. Oh wow, that is so nice. Little bit of coding with pi-hole, but not bad. They are a $40 computer running linux size of a deck of cards. I've got three running various programs around the place.
I'm using an off center dipole about 40 feet up and love it. Working on putting up a 70 foot tower by the end of the year. Had a clean sweep on the 13 Colonies Contest. That was a hoot. 73
I grew up with Fruit trees, chickens and ceramic. Do cows, chickens and bees now. Really miss the ceramic. Will get back to pulling out my kiln one day. Coffee talks are great along with the explanations going through the hive. :)
Yesterday afternoon we had a small swarm show up next to the house. I called a beekeeper to collect them, as she was gearing up to do the capture the swarm took flight. My daughter said to me; See, if you have had a hive box you could have had bees.
David, long time podcast listener and channel fan.... but I was curious to know where you got your veil you're wearing in this video. I've been looking for one similar.
I invited the Winter-Bee-Kind feeding system for winter survival, so those go on the hive before winter in place of the inner cover, so I just got out of the habit of using them.
Wish I'd seen this when we first got our first 4 hives of Russians(notoriously prone to swarming)(REALLY, REALLYreallyPRONE TO SWARMING)PRONE TO SWARMING! Did I mention they tend to swarm? Easily? Like if the wind blew on any given day?
I suppose there is a connection between beekeepers and ham radio operators as we are sorta of a self sufficient type perhaps. It is really a fun hobby.
Hi Aaron. We will have to connect on the air soon. NC an easy hope for me. Undrawn foundation is not an immediate solution. It can help in two weeks, but will not do much if the swarm prep has begun. 73
The only concern I have with raising my own queens is that I don't have enough diversity in my apiary nor anywhere near me. The closest apiary or hive near me that I'm aware of is over 10 miles away.
David I caught a swarm yesterday in a swarm box. This morning I saw a Asian hornet flying around the box . I was going to hit it with my hat ,but before I could hit it ,it grabbed a bee and flew away. What can I do?
What state do you live in and are you absolutely sure it was an Asian hornet? Lots of wasps are big and looks a lot like them. Some people see cicada killers and consider them to be Asian Hornets.
Nice to meet you Jeffery and thank you for your service. I have the utmost respect and admiration for US Army Rangers! I was in Iowa over the weekend. Had a USPSA match in West Liberty. 73

Great to hear Ken. Stay with it during the good times and bad and you'll learn a ton.

Awesome. Ham Radio is a blast. Which ticket?

Darn varroa mites!
Very nice, my call sign is W8MLD. My HF Inverted L is down at the moment due to weather. Need to get it back up soon.

Hey I love coffee time I love a man that respects coffee thank David awesome video
Dave, just pre-ordered your book I sure enjoy your online videos
Thank you very much. It is much appreciated.

We are so much more mentally healthy when we have a few hobbies we enjoy.
We r kindred spirits man I took electronics in trade school . I loved taking broken stuff and fixing it or using it for some mad scientist project
Thank you!
You're welcome!
What do you do with the drone larvae? Feed them to your chickens.
I just wanna know do you ever clean out the supers completely or do they continuously use it
Good video
Thanks
do you clean up bottom of frame with drone cells.?

Catching swarms is indeed fun.
Enjoyed watching your RUclips on bee swarming. I’m new to bees and RUclips I did not see the links for your article or book. Please advise
Thank you. The links are down below into the description of this video.
Hi from Texas.
Six kids. I have six as well. My wife wanted that ratio. 3 and 3. Eleven grands that’s wonderful and a great beekeeper. You are blessed Sir.
Indeed.
can I pull pollen frames out and put in new frames for queen.
D why does the bee build from the top bar up into top deep.
Is the advice in the book suitable for England
I think so, bees are bees
David I Would like to become a one of your team members six please let me know how to do that thank you love your work watch your videos constantly
Thanks, here's the link: www.honeybeesonline.com/beekeeping-mentor/
I didn't know your HAM man!!
Just got into it during COVID19 isolation. Glad I did, as it is a hoot.
I noticed in many of the videos I've seen, you don't seem to have an inner cover. Is your inner cover attached to the outer cover somehow?
Fellow ham here!!! 73 de KF7DLW
I had one. 👍🏼
David, long time podcast listener and channel fan.... but I was curious to know where you got your veil you're wearing in this video. I've been looking for one similar.
Gosh, wish I knew. I love it. I've about warn it out.
Why do you not use an inner cover?
I invited the Winter-Bee-Kind feeding system for winter survival, so those go on the hive before winter in place of the inner cover, so I just got out of the habit of using them.
I have seen bee keepers use powerd sugar.what is the purpose of that??
Wish I'd seen this when we first got our first 4 hives of Russians(notoriously prone to swarming)(REALLY, REALLYreallyPRONE TO SWARMING)PRONE TO SWARMING! Did I mention they tend to swarm? Easily? Like if the wind blew on any given day?
I've heard that about some (not all) Russian bees.
If you want the bees to quit building the comb in between the frames underneath your frame rest
Just curious why you don't throw the drone larvae in the yard? I thought maybe birds would like it for a snack.
Good question Lisa, it is because it can attract small hive beetles which will then make their way into the hive.
I too am a ham km5tt love radio and bees
I suppose there is a connection between beekeepers and ham radio operators as we are sorta of a self sufficient type perhaps. It is really a fun hobby.
I miss radio shack...
"Back in the day" we repaired broken electronics. Now we trash them and buy a new one.
How does a fertilized Queen lay an unfertilized egg, to produce a drone?
She can chose not to fertilize the egg she is laying.
@@beek that is so crazy!!
Does empty non-drawn foundation constitute room? 73 de KN4ORB
You should be fine!! You'll be surprised at how well they will get mated. Probably many hives around in trees and old barns.
@@beek This could be true in the county, but I'm in NYC!
