Omg our daughter was 5, her first trip, and we got to ride a couple of golden vehicles, including the Peter Pan ship and a teacup. We just felt so super lucky. Silly, but with our kids we were so caught up in it & had such a fabulous time. Ahhh nostalgia can really hit hard, esp around kids. Whew. (I’m not crying…)
Nothing will ever beat the magic of the 24 hour day being the opening day of the 60th and seeing paint the night and Disneyland Forever, the 2 best shows Disney has ever done besides Fantasmic.
It's funny to hear your angle on the 60th anniversary- that whole time was a drag to me. The amount of shows were too chaotic for my taste, and it felt like all of it was celebrating the movie franchises more than the park. The 50th went hard on celebrating the park itself, and in my eyes, had a ripple effect that brought kinda Disneyland back into the zeitgeist. I wonder if anyone else felt like me. Either way, still a great video and thanks for making it!
We were spoiled during the last couple previous celebrations that now when it's clearly a budget cut reason why these things aren't the way they used to be it really shows
Who remembers LeAnn Rimes Disneyland 50th anniversary theme song remember when? Still remember listening to that song walking out of the park that day with my young children.
Yes, it was lovely! I think it was the exit music after the fireworks. I seem to also remember snow during the holidays with that song playing on main street.
Personally, the best celebration ever was Disneyland's 35th Anniversary in 1990! Yes, I'm old, I know, LOL! And what made that year so incredible for me was ALL the quality entertainment they delivered. The Party Gras Parade was probably the best celebration parade ever. They also had TWO live stage shows at the Fantasyland Theatre (Videopolis Stage) beginning with "One Mans Dream" from 12/1989 through 4/1990, and then Dick Tracy from 6/1990 through 12/1990. These shows ran DAILY, and they had them during the night, as well. Plus, you had the Golden Horseshoe Revue happening, and other small shows throughout the Park. Disney's catch-phrase that year was, "Disneyland Big!" And believe me, it was! In regard to the 70th, I'm excited about "Paint the Night" and "Better Together" coming back, and for the new Walt Disney Show inside the Opera House. As for the fireworks, I'm OK with it. I'm hesitant about the new WOC show, because it seems to be devoted primarily with Pixar stuff. The original show will always be the best version, and wish they just bring that back. But the main thing I'm so disappointed about is that no mention of any type of stage shows coming back to the Fantasyland & Hyperion Theatres. Or at the Golden Horseshoe Stage. 3 main venues that will be "dark" during the 70th. They could bring back the classic stage show, "One Mans Dream" or create something brand new for the anniversary. Something classic and nostalgic that is completely about Disney's early years. I know more will be revealed about the 70th at a later time, so hopefully my wish for stage shows will be a part of it. I'm crossing my fingers! And finally, in regard to Mickey's jacket, it's terrible! Disney's new management team is trying too hard to make Mickey look "hip", and it doesn't work. Other than that, I actually like their costumes and colors. Who knows, their look may change slightly before the actual reveal in person.
Heck I was there for the 25th in 1980, and I guess the 10th in 1965 because we did go there back then. I also loved the Bicentennial in 1976 and I did really like America on Parade and I have a lot of collectibles from then.
I was at the 25th at WDW, I went to the 65th at Disneyland but we only went to Downtown Disney, finally got to use our tickets when Disneyland was 66, been trying to get back for Christmas ever since and now we're going for the 70th.
The 50th was amazing. I remember my daughter with her 10 year old voice screamed JULIE ANDREWS! And Julie with all her grace turned from the interview she was giving and waved her Queen wave... Hands down probably her best memory on her actual 10th birthday May 5, 2005
I still remember the 45th like it was yesterday. I have merch still in bags with the receipts that I bought and stashed away. Then 5 years later the year of a million dreams had a wonderful parade, but one thing I regret is how they moved Disneyana from above Pirates of the Caribbean. It's been way way too long since I've climbed those incredibly steep steps. They did it to create the "Dream Suite" which honestly is a waste of space. It was much better before as a charming shop and courtyard that you could look out at the rivers of America from. Also you are wrong, original 1990s Disneyland Fantasmic was the single best piece of entertainment Disney has done.
We spent our honeymoon during the 50th. It was amazing!! We didn’t get to go during the 60th sadly. Just had a new baby and couldn’t afford to go that year. We will be celebrating our 20th anniversary in Disneyland at the Disneyland hotel and so excited see what they do with the 70th!
Man I feel old. My first trip was at 25 and at the 30th we went with all of our cousins. We road tripped from Vancouver WA and drove home through Vegas. So many good memories. The old Disneyland and the old Vegas. Miss it. But most things are better now - except the crowds. Amazingly uncrowded in the 80’s. Walk on to everything in Tomorrowland except Space Mountain. Good stuff.
We were there for the 50th, both as guests and media and it was spectacular. And what they gave the media was over the top. A backpack, and 5-disc deluxe CD set of all the music (yes, we still used CDs then) and a lot of other merch. And we met Julie Andrews and other celebs!
It doesn't sound like Disneyland is going all out for the 70th. Maybe they're holding back and already working on a spectacular celebration for the 75th ?? 🙏
The 50th was special. With the park closed to the general public,I was one of the lucky lottery winners, picked from the group of passholders, to attend with the media, and numerous VIPs, the day before the celebrations officially kicked off, on May 5 2005 (and returning for rope drop on the May 6 official start). On the night before the actual 50th anniversary, I was camping out overnight in DCA with the other Disney faithful. The day of, crammed in like sardines in the Hub and Main St, seeing the VIPs, special presentations, etc. It was a spectacle not seen since the 1955 opening of the park. 3 plus hour wait to eat at the Blue Bayou, etc.... absolute craziness... but it was worth it for a once in a lifetime event. I'm not surprised by what has been rolled out for the 70th. The 75th, only 5 years away, is the one that will have the attention. God-willing, I'll be there for it.
I hope they bring the wands to change the colors of the float too. The parade was amazing. I loved Paint the Night. I will be there May 16 and July 17th.
As a costume designer with a college degree in the field, I also agree that Minnie and mickey's outfits look "try hard". It does look like an AI mistake but its so front and center, that how could their team not have noticed? I feel like it was intentional and they're just trying to make it "edgy or different" for the sake of being "cool". I don't like it either and the colors feel like they're trying to be retro but more fall into a cheesy category than sleek and retro
David - I think the issue is how do you “park” both large parades backstage between performances? As I recall Paint the Night went twice each night, and Magic Happens went twice during the day. Usually the first parade is from Small World and the second from Town Square. That means each time they have to wind around backstage and line up ready to go for the next time. So there is no way they would have the room for too large parades to do that. - and let’s be honest, two full casts to be in them. Also keep in mind there use to be another parade building where Runaway Railway is now.
I was new to enjoying Disneyland as an adult just before the 60th and I found it to be amazing! The 60th went on for months and months and they carried the colors into Winter decor, and it just felt 'Right'. I will enjoy the 70th as well, I'm sure!
I wouldn't be too concerned with the 70th celebration David. I think the reason they are not going all out is because they are going all out on the 75th anniversary which would be the Platinum Anniversary! 😁👍
My problem with "year-long celebrations" is that we usually don't get Holiday decor which I hated for the 60th even though I LOVED the 60th in general. Nothing will ever beat the Christmas decor, but everything else about the 70th seems like overall great news to me!
I was at the 50th and Remember Dreams Come True remains to this day as my favorite firework show. I got to go during the 60th also and I LOVE paint the night. Disneyland Forever is definitely a great show! But I think the 50th is just a little better.
I looked it up, and generally the anniversary celebrations follow the typical gem anniversaries. 50th is gold, 60th diamond, 100th is platinum. The problem is that 70 is ALSO platinum. I think Disney picked these random fun colors to do because they didn’t want to do 2 platinum celebrations so close together.
So many paint the night memories. Too many to list. I hope to make more memories during paint the night. I've been waiting for all of us to be able to do this again. 💜
Back in the past, we had Christmas parade at 2:00 & 9:00, then one year we actually did 3 parades at 3, 5:30, & 8:30. We also did weekdays at 4:00 only. Possibly only one Paint the Night or 9 & 11 pm?
I think they really went for it with Magic Happens. That has become one of my favorite parades. The music is top notch plus it feels modern and new. I am sad it won't be back for over a year, I wish we could get both that and Paint the Night.
This is what I’m wondering too! Sounds like we are planning to visit around the same time. Wondering if it’s asking too much to see PTN and the Halloween stuff!
I am bummed about not all of May being Star Wars Season of the Force celebration, I planned a trip later in May specifically for that. I enjoy going on Hyperspace Mountain, wish they would do more as well though.
Mickey & Minnie's costumes do look a tad like "mock ups", like they were just "We need a picture" ~ "They're not ready yet..." "We do have some crepe and old sashes" ~ "Well... Throw something together and bring what 'cha got" and, presto! Not ready for prime time!
I was there on the 50th anniversary day and it was great. Probably ate more of the cupcakes they handed out for free than I needed to. Went during the 60th anniversary as well. Hope to get there during the 70th anniversary celebration. As far as them adding two new floats to the Paint the Night parade, they may not use these to replace any floats they already have in the parade. I was there when the Main Street Electrical Parade first came out and watched that parade grow up over the years and finished as a longer parade than when it started..
It won’t live up to the 50th or 60th. Silver lining though…having seen the other options they were considering in a survey and getting to vote on them, be VERY thankful this is what was chosen. There was definitely a possibility it could have been the eye rolling celebration. Side note…the 50th anniversary color is gold, 60th anniversary color is diamond, and the 70th anniversary color is platinum. Disney and platinum don’t really jive. The 75th anniversary color is “white diamond,” so I’d have higher expectations for the 75th. Plus, 70th is just kind of a random number in terms of anniversary numbers.
I have gone to Disneyland’s anniversary every 5 years since its 35th anniversary. I am looking forward to next year but I may not be able to make it in the actual birthday since we still have the reservation system. Boo. They have done extra special things the actual day. I enjoyed the 60th as well as the 50th where they handed out Mickey ears and I also remember them handing out free birthday cake in the parks as well on another previous anniversary.
Everyone wants to see Christmas Fantasy during the holidays. Its best to have it twice a day. It adds to the Christmas ambiance. Then after the holidays there's a short period of less attendance and the rainy season as well as schedule closures. Not a great time to launch a big parade. Im guessing the cavalcade gets us through that time period and they will likely keep it going once Paint the Night opens.
I don’t thing we’ll see a 50th and 60th celebration till least the 80th, but most likely the 100th. I also think that the imagineears, the people creating the shows like paint the night and Disneyland forever wholeheartedly thought and were told that this would be the last major or at all fireworks show they would do, as back then they seemed to be leaning towards cheaper full projection shows and even drone shows after the 60th. 17:39, nothing will ever top WoC 1.0 or 2.0 (after referb). I also remember saying the original was designed to be module and it seems like they kind of drop that way of thinking, but WoC 1.0-2.0 will never be topped.
The 70th costumes feel very Tokyo Disneyland 40th anniversary but again the American parks missed the mark. Either they didn't understand the assignment or budget cut the design to shreds. I felt the same way about last year's mid century style Christmas costumes, they tried to do a vintage color pallet but again I don't think they understood why those colors worked together and so they looked off. A little artist's perspective.
They had Disney Dollar 50th Anniversary Series in $1, $5, $10 and $50 denominations. They also sold the red and blue Monorail models: 1,959 red and 500 blue.
21:28 - Minnie had a skirt like that in the late 80's early 90's. Her outfit is just fine. A little retro for her, but cool for her. Mickey's jacket on the other hand, I have no idea....
I've been there 6 times now on my visits from the UK and it's ALWAYS a magical experience!!!! I'm 59 this January and when I was A kid watching the wonderful world of Disney on BBC tv back in the day I never thought I'd ever get there! Long may the place run!!!! I'll be back in 2025!
Wonderous is very good. It makes me cry every time during the "I'm not good enough" portion. For someone who deals with confidence issues a lot, this part really gets to me..... 14:16
My biggest issue with the 70th is the amount of returning offerings. I truly loved everything that is returning since they are the best offerings they have done...but it also takes away the uniqueness of the past celebrations. We know Disney can do amazing parades, just whether or not they want to put the funds in that celebration. Tokyo's anniversary parades are created by Disney, just not funded. So we know there are people who can create something amazing and beautiful just like Paint the Night. This celebration seems to be a more of a let down compared to the past since there isnt anything much unique about the celebration. Kind of matches with how management is too nowadays
100% agree with you about Paint the night! The moment Disney teased i booked my trip for the summer! I never thought I would book a trip to Disney just to see a parade but Paint the Night is worth it🎉
I was there for 50th, and 60th. 60th was AMAZING. I love disney, but I'm not overly excited for their announcements for 70th. I am happy about Paint the Night though.
I dont think theres any delay or was ever gonna start in January, the 60th anniversary did start in May. The 100th is just a anomaly that it started in January
For the 60th anniversary, Paint the night was still running in the evening while Christmas fantasy was operating in the afternoon. However, Believe In Holiday Magic. Fireworks did not Play during the 60th, They played Disneyland forever instead, but Wondrous Journeys Will not run during Christmas and Halloween
FreshBaked. David, yes Disney could make Disneyland's 70th as good as or even better than the 60th or 50th. But will they? These day's one gets the feeling that their hearts are not in it. They always seem to want to cut corners, take the easy options because we are all so happy with any crumbs that fall off the table. Anyway it's only the 70th if Disney put in to much effort they might have to do a celebration every year. Cheers, Chris Perry.
what i find most interesting is that disney is starting the Halloween season earlier, but starting Christmas later. until this year, the halloween season started Labor Day weekend, and Christmas started the friday after Halloween (roughly). So it seems like disney has seen a pattern in their numbers and determined that halloween is more profitable than christmas.
I think there is also something to be said that in 5 years Disneyland will be celebrating their 75th anniversary, so I'm curious if they're being lower key for 70 and hopefully pulling out all the stops for 2030?
They just need to do a marketing campaign, bring back the 24 hr party, announce a new attraction or Tomorrowland refurb. I think that the most memorable anniversaries have been ones that have left a lasting change in the parks. The 50th brought a new parade, new attraction in buzz, hidden details, and it felt like a “thank you” to guests.
I had the chance to go to the 60 th anniversary. Paint the night and Disneyland forever were great shows. I too have such wonderful memories from my visit. The original world of color is definitely the best. It gives so many emotions. My biggest wish is that they would unveil a new Maleficent dragon for Fantasmic!
8:13 to that I say, why not bring back the Electrical Parade? That is something old that everyone loved, right? 20:34 why not dress the characters in something that was in fashion during the 70s vs now? Why not go retro? I don't get it
My feeling when I saw the lineup for the 70th was that Disney is holding back and I'm hoping it's due to the upcoming 75th Diamond Anniversary in 5 years. It's great to celebrate the decade anniversaries, but the quarter centuries ones are much bigger. I remember the celebrations for the 25th in 1980 and the 50th in 2005, but not so much for the ones every 10 years. Biggest disappointment for the 70th, no daytime parades. In the past Disney has been able to do all four shows, a daytime parade, a nighttime parade, Fantasmic and the fireworks show all on the same day, some of them twice a day, so it can be done!
The problem with lackluster events is that you won’t see the results until the next year. Take oogie boogie for example. If it was lackluster people already got their tickets before knowing and still went. So Disney still made money. But what will happen is next year people will say “nah, I’m good this time”
THE 50TH WAS THE BEST ........................................... THE CROWDS AND THE VIBE WERE THE BEST OF ALL TIME ..................................BEEN A REGULAR SINCE THE EARLY 70S AND THAT HAS BEEN THE MOST SATISFYING
After the disastrous 50th "celebration" at Walt Disney World, I'm not surprised at the rehash of Disneyland shows for the 70th. After Walt Disney World's 25th Anniversary in '96 (Remember the Magic), there wasn't another anniversary celebration until the 50th, and it was a HUGE let down. Walt, you know, the guy whose name is in Walt Disney World, wasn't even acknowledged in the fireworks show until the celebration was one whole year old, when the introduction of Enchantment was extended with a "Walt" section. I'm actually surprised that DL is doing anything remotely as ambitious as they are for the 70th, as it's not a milestone anniversary. IMHO, all the focus should be on the 75th, in 2030. That's the one that should be as big, if not bigger, than the 50th (which was AWESOME). I will say that your excitement for the return of Paint the Night, makes us all happy!
Keep in mind that the 75th Anniversary is a short five years away. I am not surprised the 70th is not as big as the 50th and 60th. My expectation is that the 75th celebration will be huge, just like the 50th was. So yes, a light 70th knowing that the 75th is just around the corner.
I misread the announcement and thought it was only going to be from May--Summer 2025!!!! Omg thank goodness it will still be around Nov 2025 Christmas trip...!!!!! At least some merch, some food, and Paint the Night?! If you aren't THRILLED that Paint the Night is coming back, you obviously haven't experienced it...! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
I think Disney did a great job for Disneyland 50th anniversary in 2005 they had so many things to offer it was the best celebration , 60th was ok but I think for the 70th might be big maybe who know I think Disney still has more surprises along the way to DL 70th anniversary.
I loved the latest world of color. I've enjoyed every world of color! I understand you are sentimental to the first one but honestly I saw it and I don't remember it specifically
Now you know how I feel about original Fantasmic! No iteration since then has ever been as good. It's probably mostly nostalgia and first time syndrome, i have no idea.
The gold vehicles on the opening day attractions for the 50th showed an attention to detail that they simply won’t do anymore.
They could do that for the 75Th, only not gold of course. That is going to be the next really big celebration I think.
Nothing will ever compete with the 50th year of a million dreams
Those were two different celebrations
What about the fact that the 60th gave us paint the night, can't beat that
The 50th Anniversary Celebration was the best!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Thank you for the information on the 70th. Been waiting to hear about it 🙂
Nothing will ever beat the magic of the 24 hour day being the opening day of the 60th and seeing paint the night and Disneyland Forever, the 2 best shows Disney has ever done besides Fantasmic.

50th sold me, back second time since 1975. 2000 was great but 2005 was insane.
The 50th was absolutely incredible. I loved the 60th too, but it wasn’t close to the 50th celebration.
We were spoiled during the last couple previous celebrations that now when it's clearly a budget cut reason why these things aren't the way they used to be it really shows
during the 60th they had mickey’s soundsational running during daytime as well as paint the night
Oh yeah!! Soundsational was fun
So far, the 50th has been the BEST!!! They had many free give aways and surprises and the whole park looked amazing with the extra decorations! 🌸
The colors on those 70th costumes are extremely GARISH!!

I don't know if that's a good reason to hold back, but they sure as heck better go for it on the 75th.

No the 70th definitely won't be as good as the 50th. 75th is just 5 years away and that is going to be big. Temper your expectations now
Agree
Totally. 50th was amazing, looking forward to the 75th tbh. 70th? Hmm, fun but 75 ought to blow it away.
Looking forward to 90s Nite! The will be my first After Dark event - I'm hoping it's worth the flight across the country.
Dave is nutty for Paint The Night!
So will they not have any parade from January 7th to May 16th?? Also do you think they will do Mickeys Mixed Magic from January to May?
David - I think the issue is how do you “park” both large parades backstage between performances? As I recall Paint the Night went twice each night, and Magic Happens went twice during the day. My rating:
Paint the Night - A+
Wonderous Journeys - A+

We had a similar experience with the 60th. It was our first and David, you and your crew were a part of our experience. Thank you.
David, I believe during the 60th they had Soundsational perform once during the day and then PTN twice in the evening.
50th was awesome, I think 75th will and should be bigger than 70th.
I've never seen paint the night but the colours of inside out would make so much sense !!!
Was patiently waiting for your breakdown... thank you! I was present for the 60th and it was soooo good
It’s tough to compete with the 60th!
@freshbakedpresents IT WAS SO GOOD
Planning to go next September. Do you think the 70th shows/paint the night will be going during that time or will it just be Halloween shows?
I will always feel sentimental towards the 50th. That celebration defined what Disneyland is for me
I was there on the 50th anniversary day and it was great.
I miss Disneyland forever
my go to travel bag is the 60th anniversary rolling tote bag. I love it so much and it makes me HAPPY!!
The 60th was when my kids first visited Disneyland, that is why it’s so special to me.
The costume for Mickey and Minnie I believe it is a nod to the old school Disneyland sign.
I agree. I think this is targeted towards 45-55 yr olds.
Great show! Thanks for the update! I’m looking forward to the celebration, but do agree that in some aspects they could be doing better. Fresh Baked!
The costumes look very Tokyo Disney! I like them. But yeah, the jacket being asymmetrical is a little weird ha-ha.
I would think that they would go hog wild for the 75th anniversary in just 5 years. 70 is great but not usually considered a huge anniversary year!
100% agree with you about Paint the night! The moment Disney teased i booked my trip for the summer! I never thought I would book a trip to Disney just to see a parade but Paint the Night is worth it🎉
The original World of Color was certainly the best ever. I would say the first holiday one (when Frozen just came out) was also very good.
I think the layers on minnies dress are the different princesses. I think it is showing the history of the company.
If magic happens has already moved offsite, and paint the night doesn’t start till May… what’s going to show Jan-May???
what i find most interesting is that disney is starting the Halloween season earlier, but starting Christmas later. until this year, the halloween season started Labor Day weekend, and Christmas started the friday after Halloween (roughly). So it seems like disney has seen a pattern in their numbers and determined that halloween is more profitable than christmas.
Paint the night is back all I need. Wish they would say dates and where it will be I’m only coming because of that
4:05 It was incredible
Thank you. I really appreciated this video.
8:13 to that I say, why not bring back the Electrical Parade? That is something old that everyone loved, right?
20:34 why not dress the characters in something that was in fashion during the 70s vs now? Why not go retro? I don't get it
you forgot to mention the free 60th cupcakes with the diamond vibes
The best event they’ve done since the 60th was 2018 Pixar fest, but thinking about it now, that was the last time we had PTN lol
❤I’m the same age as Disneyland and loved the 50th, but as a pensioner, I don’t think I can afford the 70th. Sad 😢
We hope if our Dragon will come back next year
Dragon is looking like 2026
The problem with lackluster events is that you won’t see the results until the next year. Take oogie boogie for example. If it was lackluster people already got their tickets before knowing and still went. So Disney still made money. But what will happen is next year people will say “nah, I’m good this time”
HAPPY is the new World of Color Show Celebrating Happiness HAPPY is the general Theme for the 70th Celebration.
We are going to DLand in April. So sad Paint the Night and the Walt show won't be open by then...
I was surprised that they opted to do a 70th celebration honestly because I thought they'd hold off and do a massive 75th
17:57 sessions of light????
9:25 Two new floats you say?? 😳👀
Keep in mind that the 75th Anniversary is a short five years away. I am not surprised the 70th is not as big as the 50th and 60th. My expectation is that the 75th celebration will be huge, just like the 50th was. So yes, a light 70th knowing that the 75th is just around the corner.
Good point
Why the 75th? Whats so special?
I misread the announcement and thought it was only going to be from May--Summer 2025!!!! Omg thank goodness it will still be around Nov 2025 Christmas trip...!!!!! At least some merch, some food, and Paint the Night?! If you aren't THRILLED that Paint the Night is coming back, you obviously haven't experienced it...! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Mondo from Five Fires thought the same. I had to correct him. Lol! 😆
I miss that time the 60th anniversary . That time is gone. Best time in my lifetime with my family.
I was hoping for remember dreams come true firework show, that one was awesome
Now you know how I feel about original Fantasmic! No iteration since then has ever been as good. It's probably mostly nostalgia and first time syndrome, i have no idea.
