    I loved my Seahawk 35, for all the reasons you give. We sailed all the way round the UK, and across to Holland. No problems with motion at sea, always felt as safe as houses. Ed Dubois should be revered for his hull design. Never slams, never throws water over you. Hope you're still enjoying yours.

      Very much enjoying her thanks. Taken her to Holland And France and hopefully Brittany this season. Sails well and feels strong. I've had her out in 30 knots plus and don't feel the gear is getting overwhelmed. I am somewhat envious of your round Britain trip . How long did it take ?

    Yes, the remarks about uncomfortable position are people that doesn't know much about boats or sailing. The more your position are in the center of a boat, the less you are prone to the "bouncing effect" of the boat's furthers points - sorry my English are not too good. Learned this from experienced fisherman over the years. If you prone to get seasick, sit in the middle of a boat.This should be a dynamic boat and thanks for sharing.

      This is very true in any boat. Having sailed this boat for several seasons I can confirm she is not more likely to make anyone seasick. Thanks.

    We owned a seahawk 87 model for six years and sailed it on and from the Clyde around the western isles anually.Great seakeeping boat and safe as houses in the cockpit not very good at getting point angle when tacking the bilge keel version, so lots of motoring going too and from Rothesay back to her mooring on the Gareloch because the wind was never on the tail coming home.Another problem is the raised hull to transom point which create wave slap when on a mooring with fetch too the stern, this creates a very annoying and loud booming whilst trying to sleep and can even be heard in the main cabin on occasion.
    They are very roomy and a good investment when we bought ours ,bought for 48 and sold for 56 but at todays prices a bargain if well found.

      Hi Phil, interesting feedback. All my previous boats have been twin keelers. We went single keel this time and I think it was the right decision. She points better than my Jaguar 27. Soft mud around here so I can still take a mud berth, but I'm a little more risk-averse in my creek crawling now. Cheers

    The higher the cockpit the harder it is to see past the head sail and you are in the spray zone. Aft for me + twin keel.

    • @directorstu
      @directorstu  3 года назад +2

      Very true about the head sail. U have to be careful with that blind spot. Seahawk is pretty dry in my experience. Spray does come over the bow but the hood shields me. I used to love twin keels.and it makes sense in a sub 30 footer. But in a bigger boat I do less creek cracking and more coastal sailing so I don't miss em

    Nice review, I have been sailing a Sadler 32 for 9 years. Low cockpit and feels safe she has always looked after my wife and me.
    Have been looking at the Westerly Seahawk, a friend told me about the hight and motion problem but I haven't had first-hand experience
    I can only see two negatives with the boat Hight of cockpit and draining of cockpit.
    We will be moving up because we will be doing more offshore sailing so both of the above become a concern. On the plus side, nice interior looks like lots of space, the wraparound cockpit looks safe and if you get her out to warm climates easy to rig an all-round moz net.

      Steve Roofer the sadler is a nice boat. I'm looking at moody 34 & 346 too. All the best

      Everything on this boat was changed with the exception of mast hull superstructure internal woodwork.
      What lets her down? tatty woodwork faded and marked superstructure.
      As this was my first boat I don't look at this as a mistake but as a learning curve
      Next boat will be bigger better woodwork cleaner superstructure the rest I can change.

      went and had a look at a sea today. Inside very nice good sizes cabin to the stern forpeak a bit small the rest a good size 10 out of 10. I found the cockpit a bit small and cramped and felt wedges behind the wheel. So not for me

    • @directorstu
      @directorstu  6 лет назад

      @@SteveRoofer I thought cockpit was OK. 6 foot long bench seats. You may be right about the helm. I need another look. Forepeak isn't huge but you can stand up in it. Is the Moody now top of your list?

    nice overview, thank you. I love this model, I must say, for much of the same reasons. Curious as to your opinion of the twin keel, now that you've sailed it a bit. it's been my observation that twin keels are widely and vehemently disdained by everyone except those that sail them....hmmm. makes a guy wonder! :-) seriously, thoughts? I'm on the wrong side of the pond to easily pick one up, but, I'm just dumb enough to consider a crossing as part of the honeymoon. I've been looking at boats forever, but, keep wandering back to the Westerly line. You hit on it at the end of this review....it's much like so many other boats, but for some, it has a slightly better set of lines or a feel or a healthy does of 'je ne sais quoi' that just gives it the nod, but the differences won't show up in the spreadsheet....but, I think every boat has that going for her. Each vessel speaks to her beloved!

    • @directorstu
      @directorstu  5 лет назад +1

      We love her. She is exactly what we hoped for. A spacious yet attractive vessel. A stable weighty ol girl with plenty of inertia but also good sailing characteristics. Perhaps she isn't a racers choice but I have found her a delight to sail in heavy and light winds. Previous to this boat I always had twin keels and loved the freedom to dry out or do some Creek crawling. My last boat was a jaguar 27 (catalina 27) and she had quite a modern deep twin keel configuration that pointed pretty well up wind and had relatively little Lee way. But we have a lot of mud here. The fantasy of drying out on a golden beach just wasn't happening. So far I don't regret it. I was a little nervous drying out to do the anti fouling but it all worked out OK. Best of luck with your research. Crossing the Atlantic sounds like an amazing honeymoon adventure.

      Glad you liked it. We remain extremely pleased with ours. She is relatively heavy but I wanted that stable solid feeling. I had her out in very light winds a couple of weekends ago and she still trolled along beautifully. No issues of significance. Might be worth checking the eberspacher runs OK. Mine needs the engine running to start up but that is normal. I need to change the wheel bearings on the mainsheet track. The white ones are prone to uv degradation apparently. I got mine from Trafalgar Yacht Services. Having trouble getting the end stop off but I'll get there eventually. Best of luck with it. S

    Thanks for the reviews. How do you find the high cockpit with regards to roll/sickness etc? Thanks

    • @directorstu
      @directorstu  4 года назад +1

      I don't find it an issue. It is almost impossible to make an accurate comparison of roll from one boat to the next but having had her a couple of seasons I don't think the Seahawk rolls excessively. She feels strong and safe. Stiffer, stronger and more muscular than my previous smaller and lighter jaguar 27 (much loved). She handles 35 knots without breaking into a sweat.
